I remember doing these when I was a framer. The radius of the arches was always wider than the opening for a flattened arch look. Royal PITA.

Woulda been cooler if you did a hyperbolic cosine (caternary) curve for the arch.

Ben, I have three doorways in my house that were turned into Hexagonal tops | / _ \ | I need to turn one of them into an arch. Do you recommend knocking the whole thing out and making a new arch or can I fill in the gaps to make an arch out of the hexagonal shape?

One question, why you mark 3 quarters of an inch on the timber that you used as a makeshift compass?

Why you doing this the hardest way possible? 2 x knee braces @ 45deg at top, cut strip of sheetrock width if wall about 1200, bend in nail on and done

I cringed very hard at the way you cut/ caught that board at 2:42. Yikes, next time finish the cut from the other side so you can catch the drop safely! Or just let it fall altogether. Be safe dude!

Wait... what? The drywalliest carpenter is doing... carpentery things!? Ohhh my head is spinning and I can't see straight! Also, if REALLY worried about getting things lined up straight, using a router with a flush trim bit around the template is more accurate than a jigsaw :)

I did the same thing with 1/2” plywood but put it over the studs just like drywall and butted the 1/2” drywall to the plywood then used duro bond 90 to float over the plywood when done you couldn’t tell the difference I’ve done this several times it’s been years and has held up perfectly

The doorway in this case was tall enough that a half-circle works very well. If the height was lower, a smaller part of a circle could be used. To set the arc, use a second piece of wood to extend the center of your compass somewhat below the end of the plywood. Then use a longer radius than half the diameter. (This is easier to do than to describe.) The result should be a shallower arch.
