I've secretly wanted to do one of these for a long time (despite that I have no need to do so). I'm excited to see how it flushes out in the mudding phase.
Ben, I have three doorways in my house that were turned into Hexagonal tops | / _ \ | I need to turn one of them into an arch. Do you recommend knocking the whole thing out and making a new arch or can I fill in the gaps to make an arch out of the hexagonal shape?
Removing an arch was on my list of projects for you but you quickly deleted that video. I do have one cool project idea that I think you might find interesting.
I cringed very hard at the way you cut/ caught that board at 2:42. Yikes, next time finish the cut from the other side so you can catch the drop safely! Or just let it fall altogether. Be safe dude!
Well I actually have 4 of these to do in a new build…so this was a great refresher on how to do them. I don’t think I’ve done one since 03! Nice work, Ben. Merry Christmas
You made that look so insanely easy. I have a poorly made arch in my house I’ve been wanting to replace but have been dreading. Can’t wait for the one in this series so I can tackle my arch. Thanks Ben!
@Vancouver Carpenter safety glasses here AND a dust mask in the next video, not a T-shirt!? Really glad to see it. Your livelihood and mine both depend on being injury-free.
Wait... what? The drywalliest carpenter is doing... carpentery things!? Ohhh my head is spinning and I can't see straight! Also, if REALLY worried about getting things lined up straight, using a router with a flush trim bit around the template is more accurate than a jigsaw :)
Love your videos and your sarcastic humor. Hey, do you have any videos for a no fail, diy wall texture video? Thanks for the help skim coating over horrible 50 yr old texture (s). I am finding the sponge method works after many failures. I know you are a professional and advising us diy'ers. Thanks 😊
I got excited when he said "now we're going to screw this up here"! I am very good at screwing things up... though unfortunately not in the way he does it😂
I did the same thing with 1/2” plywood but put it over the studs just like drywall and butted the 1/2” drywall to the plywood then used duro bond 90 to float over the plywood when done you couldn’t tell the difference I’ve done this several times it’s been years and has held up perfectly
You are absolutely right about the "next guys" coming in and ruining your perfect work. That is why we should just do it all ourselves! Saves money also.
The doorway in this case was tall enough that a half-circle works very well. If the height was lower, a smaller part of a circle could be used. To set the arc, use a second piece of wood to extend the center of your compass somewhat below the end of the plywood. Then use a longer radius than half the diameter. (This is easier to do than to describe.) The result should be a shallower arch.
As a resident of the southwest. Arch walkways are our bread and butter. It is time consuming. But the look is priceless. Keep the videos coming ,Ben. Merry Christmas 🎄
