Thank you Brit & Mike. Dug back into your videos to find the seal you used around your windows. It’s that time in my build. Completely helped me not guess and get the wrong thing. Happy travels
Loved seeing the use of the automotive seal to fill in the gap -- great idea! Thanks for the measurements -- good seeing what can be done without flares.
Thank you guys for being so detailed! You both explain things so clearly and always provide tons of detail. Definitely a quality build and can’t wait to see it finished. Every week I follow your videos and have been taking notes with each one! Keep it up 👍🏼
That was a great idea to use the door trim. It looked so neat too. Well done guys. I just gave you a sub. I'm interested to see what other useful solutions you come up with.
Thank you! No, we didn't add any flares or modify the body of the van at all. Instead we decided to not heavily insulate or build up our walls in the bed area, so that we could create the effect of flares by having the bed set further into the walls.
Hi Britt, Mike and Leah, lovin your van build series and rewatching often. I am a 60 yr old gal building out a recently purchased 2021 Ford Transit High Top, OMG so much to learn ! Electrical system put in by professional, floor done, now need framing and bed. Intermittently on the struggle bus. My next project is the bed and inset bed boxes. Did you using 1x6" or 2x6" to attach to van wall ? Are you then using 1x6" to build out insert framing ? Your videos have been so helpful, thank you so much. Kim
From Canada: great idea to fill the gap between the window frame and the interior wall: can you provide the link for the automotive door molding you are using? I was not able to find it in the description.
What a great solution for filling in the window gap! Q. Are you not using glue for your pocket hole joints? Loving your videos and learning a ton. We're waiting for the weather to warm up before we start building our van. -Peter
Thanks so much, hope your build goes well! Warmer weather and longer days will definitely be helpful. Correct, we did not use glue for the pocket hole joints.
Yeah of course! We did this to reduce thermal bridging. We talked about it in detail in this part of another video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yCEcyVXnXdA.html But here are the basics: 1. We used rivet nuts to attach our studs to our van frame, so we installed all of those first 2. Then we would cut out a piece of EZ-Cool to fit a particular section, line it up, and then cut small holes into the EZ-Cool so that you could see/access the rivet nuts underneath it 3. Then we taped it in place with reflectix tape 4. Finally we screwed the frame boards into the rivet nuts in the van wall, leaving the EZ-Cool sandwiched between the frame boards and the van wall
Love your video! Could you tell me what the width is of your beds location from finished wall to finished wall BELOW your raised bed location, not utilizing the bump-outs space? In other words, 15" off the floor, finished side to side? Thanks!
How'd y'all decide where in the length of the van to put the bed? Could it have moved back towards the rear doors at all, or is that kinda where it needs to go based on the bed size you're getting?
The mattress will extend all the way back to the rear doors, but with these boxes we wanted to basically build out extra room for a portion of the head and a portion of the foot of the bed. The inset boxes couldn’t be any wider because the sheet metal for the panel that they are set into (i.e. where you would put a window in a passenger van) meets the van wall at an angle. It’s kind of confusing to explain over text, sorry! But you can sort of see what I mean in this picture, at his right hand: www.patchworkandpebbles.com/wp-content/uploads/camper-van-build-start-2-1024x683.jpg
We ordered in May 2021, it started production in late August and we got it in September. We did get lucky with going to a dealership that had the proper allocation to make those orders. I would definitely reach out to your dealership because from what I’ve read on Transit forums online, I would have thought they had started building 2022s now. Hope you get your van soon!
I ordered 350 tall, extended non dully Eco boost in November 2021 still waiting at the end of June 2022. I was talked out of the Abyss grey by the salesman I now see I would’ve loved it! Ended up ordering Carbonized Grey Metallic, hope I like it at least half as much as yours. :)
if u decide to sleep sideway without flare, maybe its better not to have windows on the side, they are too cold to touch and water droplets might form on them during cold nights.
Does this apply only if you're tall enough that you might be touching them unintentionally in the night? I'm planning on doing a sideways bed myself but I'm only 5'4". And also hoping it will work out that I can put the bed height at about 24 or 25 in. I have osteoporosis and some back problems so I don't want to be up high.
@@SoloTravelCoach the condensation will wet ur pillow or beddings no matter if u personally touch the window or not. if u only want air circulation, its better to install large skylight and or a powered top mount air vent
@@redhongkong thank you so much for the education I am brand new at this. Haven't even bought a van yet I'm leaning towards the Ford Transit because a year or so after I build it I'm planning on shipping it to Europe and driving around Europe for several years. The transit is widely sold and Europe In fact it was a joint project between Ford and the United Kingdom so I talked to a dealer over there and they said the parts are fully interchangeable so there was no problem getting maintenance or repairs done in Europe. I appreciate your time
