She just wasn't written as a gold digger. She was written as a character that genuinely liked the guy. Sure the money helped. It always makes things easier when you don't have to worry about where your next meal is coming from, but that wasn't her main focus.

Interestingly enough, every single girlfriend of mine operated under these terms, while I shook my head in pity. They are all happily married now. Self respect is overrated. Relationships are not always the right place to apply rigid ideals.

@Logia SD she literally genuinely loved those kids. Especially Gracie. From the minute she saw Maggie the first episode she boosted her confidence for no reason at all. And helped Brighton out of trouble. Im sorry but if she REALLY was a gold digger than why would she have broken up with a millionare??

After 5 years that’s all she wanted was for him to make one move forward, it took her almost leaving for him to realize he needed to change. But he did it and I’m glad that he did. The next two episodes was him telling her he loved her (and not taking it back) and proposing to her.
@sleepinggorilla

The Nanny had a sound premise, which made it a better romantic comedy than most sitcoms. Maxwell had a lot of good reasons to be unavailable. He loved the mother of his children and needed time. He owed it to them to act responsibly and not jump into bed with Fran who was VERY attractive. Fran was from a different economic class and needed to prove she wasn’t after his money. he could have lost his house and drive his business into debt if he married her early on.
@tylerfields0211
@tylerfields0211 3 года назад
@@sleepinggorilla I don’t disagree. Maxwell had a lot to lose and he was afraid to move on, we’ve all been there. He loved his kids and there was nothing wrong with that. But I’m saying, he basically kept her around for 5 years and yes she was taking care of the kids. But they were developing a strong bond. And no he shouldn’t have dived right in without figuring her out first. But he shouldn’t have kept her at arms length for all that time ether (knowing he was doing it or not). I’m just glad he realized he needed her and they got the life they wanted in the end.
@sleepinggorilla
@sleepinggorilla 3 года назад
@@tylerfields0211 5 years is nothing. In the real world you should be with someone for 5 years minimum before you consider marriage. That's long enough to really get to know that person and work out what issues you may have. Good for the Nanny, which showed a believable relationship and was still funny.
@kristinbagani2811
@kristinbagani2811 2 года назад
@@sleepinggorilla The problem with waiting that long is that most people Fran’s age would’ve already walked away by then, because they would see themselves as being “kept on the hook”. The longest most women Fran’s age would stay for a man keeping a woman at arm’s length would be around 1-1.5 years before giving up and moving on, thinking that they’re partner has no intention of committing to a marriage. Fran can’t walk away that easily because she is Max’s nanny for his kids, and she needs the money; otherwise, if she could get better as far as her paycheck is concerned, she would have already left with something better by now.
@meghantheestallionrunpop
@meghantheestallionrunpop 2 года назад
@Kristen Bagoni No. She's not a gold digger. Yes,she did need money and that was one of her main goals, but remember, she did break up with a millionaire. And no, she wouldn't have left with something better if she had money, she loved the kids and really only wanted what ever women wants, a good man who can also provide and take care of her, that's not so much to ask for

That's incredibly true. I always looked up to my father growing up, and have always loved him very much despite the fact that I always felt neglected by him. This was legitimately good advice from her mom. While it wasn’t necessarily okay for her to write off her husband’s bad behavior towards his children, it also wasn’t something she was responsible for apologizing for. Because she can’t apologize for someone else’s behavior. In the end their is nothing either of them could do to change Fran’s father or Fran’s childhood. But it was definitely good advice for Fran to change her life so that she can live the life she wants, regardless of how the men in her life act towards her.

I love The Nanny. But I'm angrily confused on this part. Mr. Sheffeild was the one facing intimacy issues and Fran was the one going to therapy? It was unfair to her that he left her dangling for 5 years. She was in her 30s already, so its natural of course that one of her main goals is to get married and have children of her own (knowing who Fran is), on top of having a good career. He should have gone to therapy too since he was the one preventing himself from expressing his true feelings to her out of fear.
