The National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS) is the leading voice and resource of the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) community. Founded in 1990, NOFAS is the only international non-profit organization committed solely to FASD primary prevention, advocacy and support.
NOFAS seeks to create a global community free of alcohol-exposed pregnancies and a society supportive of individuals already living with FASD. NOFAS effectively increases public awareness and mobilizes grassroots action in diverse communities and represents the interests of persons with FASD and their caregivers as the liaison to researchers and policymakers. By ensuring that FASD is broadly recognized as a developmental disability, NOFAS strives to reduce the stigma and improve the quality of life for affected individuals and families.

Thank you Fran, for showing people that FAS is a disability, and understanding your disability is the best path to living successfully. Everyone has something that makes them unique, and what makes you unique and special is your sweet self, and your wonderful attitude, and your desire to live a fruitful life. I admire you.

ok. I have to comment. i have been watching these short clips of people with FAS. At the beginning of this month I learned I was born with FAS. I am now, today, 44 y/o. I, too, like Fran, was shocked to hear this and also, above all, wondered why I wasn't told before. I have struggled all my life and, though, i am still a wee-bit bothered about this newly-learned news, I am above all, relieved. My life has been incredibly dramatic and chaotic. I just figured I was destined and doomed to a life of chaos, unsuccess and inadequacy. Thank you Fran for making this video. I am inspired by all of you. I don't feel so alone anymore.

Fran, an incredible story. I am 34 years old, and I am now on a journey to being diagnosed with FAS. Multiple symptoms of FAS I resonate with, I can relate to. I am seeing a geneticist in November, I just want answers. I want to know what I can do to be more successful in my life. I was adopted at birth, and I found out last year my birth mom was a chronic alcoholic. I had failure to thrive until I was around 2, I was told I was 4 pounds although my birth certificate says 6 pounds...I struggle with absract concepts, can't read maps, can't read clocks with minute hands very well, organization is a mess...thank you for sharing.
