At one point, the heavyweight championship was the most-coveted title in mainstream sports. Management teams and promoters are often inspired to take shortcuts, or at least unconventional paths, to lead a fighter to something nearing the heavyweight title.
On this episode, we briefly talk about Anthony Joshua's clash with Francis Ngannou, but spend the bulk of the episode recalling other heavyweights from history who were fast-tracked.

Yeah man. My favorite podcast, and I’m not even what you’d consider a hardcore boxing consumer. Always light up when they drop an episode.

Here's a newspaper quote from August 19, 1903: "JEFFRIES DRAWS COLOR LINE - Champion Jeffries announces that he will not fight a n**ro, and the hopes of Sam McVey and Jack Johnson to obtain a heavyweight championship are lost." Sorry man.

By August 1903 Jeffries was retiring after already beating up Hank Griffin, Bob Armstrong TWICE and Mexican Pete....at this time jack Johnson was getting beat up by all these guys plus Choynski and Marvin Hart he wasn't anything great yet Sam McVey was just starting his career.....ok

@@user-ys4gz6oh2vDanYou specifically said he never drew the color line, in response to me saying he did. I provided clear evidence that he did. Pretty simple.

@@PatrickConnorBeard At the time of that article Jeffries had 21 fights recorded ONE QUARTER of them against non-white fighter's...Peter Jackson, Bob Armstrong,Hank Griffin twice ,Mexican Pete Everett.....ok ....good point by me right

@@user-ys4gz6oh2vDanNo, because anyone who is aware of what "drawing the color line" even is, knows that it is specifically in reference to the heavyweight championship. The second fight with Hank Griffin was specifically promoted as an exhibition, and Jeffries out-weighed the poor guy by 40 pounds and still couldn't stop him. It took him 2-3 years to specifically draw the color line, and he did it in action before that. In any case, you said he didn't draw it, he clearly did. So I'm not sure why you can't just say "Ah okay, I was wrong." (EDIT) I should have mentioned, that was just the first article I nabbed from my archives. His trainer Billy Delaney openly drew the color line for his fighter back in 1901, so the whole "he was retring!" excuse doesn't hold up when he retired in 1905.
