After more than six decades, Architect Francisco Mañosa continues to uphold that Filipinos must acknowledge their history and roots to come into their own in the architectural world.
“Architecture must be true to itself, its land and its people,” he said, founding a philosophy that guides his firm and inspires young architects to this day.

NOBODY KNOW what Philippines architecture look, but most people around the world knew what Chinese, Thai, Tibet/Bhutan, Japanese, Burmese, Balinese, Javanese, Malay, Minangkabau, Cambodian, Korean and Vietnamese architecture and roof style look. Philippines ack of history, civilization, heritage and tradition, Yes, Southeast Asian architecture and roof style are beautiful, but Filipino do not have like all ASEAN country have. maybe the pre-Spanish FILIPINO Luzon Tagalog, kampapangan, pangasinan and visayan look like Malay "Balai Adat Melayu" or "Balai Besar Alor Setar", Is the closest reconstruct Filipino traditional architecture that can attract tourist to visit Philippines and made Philippines equal and comparable to other high heritage and cultural tradition southeast Asian. Filipino do not have own architecture like the rest of southeast and east Asian nation, No in PHILIPPINE build before master Spanish teach how to build stone structure and palaces not like local arcthitecture Grand Palace Bangkok, Thailand, Thonburi Palace Thailand, Balai Besar Alor Setar palace Malaysia, Royal Palace Mandalay Myanmar, Kanbawzathadi Golden Palace Myammar, Royal Palace Phnom Penh Cambodia, Royal Palace Luang Prabang Laos, Keraton Kesepuhan Cirebon palace and Keraton Kanoman Cirebon palace, Istana Besar Pagaruyung Sumatera Barat Indonesia, Istana Seri Menanti Negeri Sembilan Malaysia. No civilization in Philippine in pre-European. No Rome in Philippines nor Pompeii, but in Indonesia have mini pompeii called "Situs Liyangan". and many palaces and city destroyed by Dutch like "Keraton Kaibon Banten", yet still Indonesia, Cambodia, Myammar, Laos and Malaysia preserved the culture, art, tradition, custom and architecture unlike the Philippines, not even country name have own local name but "Name after Spanish King "PHILIPE". What architecture of Philippines look? Thailand, Myammar, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Timor all have traditional architecture and roof style. Thailand with "Sala Thai", Malaysia(Brunei, Singapore and Cocos Island) with "Balai adat Melayu", Indonesia with "Joglo Jawa", Balla Lompa and "Rumah Tidung". Timor with "Uma lulik". Vietnam, Mongolia, Korea, Japan and Chinese are "Sinosphere architecture", but traditional non-Chinese influences are "Sumiyoshi-Zukuri Architecture". Bhutan and Tibet are Tibetian architecture. Ang ganda siguro ng Pilipinas kung ang mga building structures natin eh based sa mga accent ng Pinoy architecture. Parang sa England na meron specific building designs and laws sila na dapat align sa English architectural designs ang labas kahit modern ang loob. So may consistency at maganda talaga tignan yung mga buildings and community pag pinagsamasama.

I think Bahay Kubo or Nipa Hut is not Filipino. It is indigenous indeed but it could also be found on other parts of southeast asia. On the other hand, Bahay na Bato Architecture is what I think is truly Filipino because it is endemic to our archipelago.
@FM-pw1ls
@FM-pw1ls 4 года назад
It is Filipino. But of course we are also Austronesian and we belong to the same family with southeast asian. They are our cousins and we share the same architecture. They may have huts but if you look at it closely, you can see the slight distinctions. Bahay kubo is more Filipino than bahay na bato after all because it is more southeast asian. Bahay na bato is foreign and western.

FJ.Illustration bahay na bato tells our history. It mixes Austronesian, Chinese and Spanish architecture to make a hybrid design that fits us perfectly. It’s a much more fitting style for the urban areas imo

Bahay kubo is just a general term for all types of indigenous Filipino houses such as the Igorot house, Kankana-ey house, Maranao Turogan, Subanen house, Etc.. all those houses i have mentioned have architectural features unique to their respective origin and can only be found in the Philippines.
@hijodelsoldeoriente

@@FM-pw1ls that's actually why it is distintively Filipino. Because it reflects our historical reality. To be Filipino doesn't mean to rid colonial influences because if so, it ignores our heritage and history. Bahay Kubo (nipa hut) despite having small distinctions compared to other southeast asian huts can be found in other nations. Bshay-na-bato, being a hybrid of pre-colonial and colonial architecture makes it Filipino. Moreso than the bahay kubo the fundsmental building principles of which is an umbrella term covering similsr architecture across southeast asia and pacific islands.

what we need today is more creative n imaginative Filipino vernacular architects who could create artistically Filipino iconic structures with Filipino features or a fusion of both Filipino m western design....in Manila we need buildings having the American Beaux Arts or the American colonial design like the Post office or the National Museum to match the architectural design of buildings in the area like what American Architect envisioned for Manila...we need to have uniformity in the architectural design of buildings in the Intramuros area to bring back the charm n ambience of Old Manila who was known as the "Paris of the East" during the American colonial period....too bad architect Consunji proceded to construct a high rise photo bomber inspite the objection of the Historical Commision...financial benefit prevailed instead of following the designs of the beauty n heritage and historical beauty ofanila
@user-kk7fq8nb7m
@user-kk7fq8nb7m 4 месяца назад
even if the construction firm was bent on constructing a high rise condominium, the architect could have opted to design the bldg incorporating a Neo Classical design in its facade w/c blends w/ the architectural design in the area and is more pleasing to look up even if it was a photo bomber
