I agree. But I feel it is how he trained his technique to serve his emotion which is what is impressive. I have read from a number of first-hand accounts that Corelli almost appeared to have stage fright because he put himself under such mad pressure (Rescigno/Milnes say similarly). But how Corelli sings the last page of Vesti La Giubba. THAT is greatness. I personally don't think he's as good as Caruso in this aria. But in a way I don't care because Corelli gets to the heart of it. For me, that's what opera is all about: vulnerability.
