PotuSuman Bibingka I’ve read a lot about Corelli and heard him in the theater several times. I think the most telling comments come from his colleagues, who uniformly say that he was not a happy man. I think his extreme perfectionism and constant self-criticism point to something that could be called a neurosis. And I think what made him the most unhappy was when the fans still screamed and yelled when he felt he had not sung well. I remember a ‘Turandot’ in the early 70’s when the sound was becoming opaque and less supple. He was still better than any tenor in the world but when he appeared to sign programs after the performance he stayed until the last fan had his autograph, but the whole time kept his head down and did not speak a single word.

@@ransomcoates546 I also read how good he is with his fans. it's so sad to know about this. actually I have observed in his 1971 concert in Tokyo where he seems to be unstable when singing. I know it in his hand gestures especially in Chella Mi Creda. Too much self pity and criticism, I guess. I also read somewhere here in yt that every after performance, he really asks criticisms from his peers as he always wanted to improve himself. poor Dario. anyway, let's just enjoy his legacy as he's already in peace. 😊

@@ransomcoates546 His tone began to deteriorate in the early 70s. (Opaque, as you say) and that must have been difficult to deal with. When does a singer decide to stop? Some voices keep their quality, but it's rare in spinto tenors.

Lo llevo observando desde hace tiempo y usted es un fanático de manual, que impone sus gustos y odia a ciertos cantantes hasta la locura. Corelli para mí ha sido uno de los mejores tenores Spintos de la historia pero en este papel nunca me gustó, al igual que en el repertorio Francés Romántico, ya que ni tenía dicción ni lo cantaba con el estilo adecuado.

Sono le stesse parole che ha usato il maestro Carlo Bergonzi quando ha detto che ascoltare Alfredo Kraus fa bene all'anima.

Altro che Carreras Pavarotti Domingo, quei tre messi insieme non valevano un Corelli e neanche un Franco Bonisolli.

@@OPalestrantedaPAZ Scusate ma...che dite?? Corelli è stato enorme, ma qui non c'è proprio nulla che lo fa passare all storia! Sbaglia pure le parole, cantando praticamente la seconda strofa due volte. Si vede che proprio non è comodo in quest'aria, non capisco chi gliel'ha fatto fare....

​@@hrbooksmusic7878Yo soy de la opinión que el repertorio Belcantista no era para su voz. Era un tenor perfecto para Óperas veristas y óperas del Verdi tardío no el Verdi de Traviata y Rigoletto. Sin embargo en Forza del Destino, Aida, Trovador por ejemplo era maravilloso y único.

I think after 1970 he was not at his best anymore, but he was still great. In the 1960's and a bit earlier, he was the king.

La storia si ripete! F. Corelli ha sempre avuto, da vivo, critiche dai sostenitori di M. Del Monaco e G. Di Stefano e, come si percepisce da certi commenti attuali, continua ad averle anche da morto. Incredibile! Non sarebbe l'ora di dare a Cesare quel che è di Cesare?

Bullcrap, although in the Japan concert he sings the same verses mixed like that this is not the same audio. Interesting that he makes the same exact mistake in both concerts so maybe he does it on purpose for a reason? We may never know...
