Rugby star Francois Pienaar reflects on South Africa's historic win at the 1995 rugby World Cup and how it led to a life-long friendship with Nelson Mandela.
Francois Pienaar is the ultimate opportunist. Here he talks about his friendship with Mandela yet as the captain of the 1995 RWC team he only found out 25 years later that Chester Williams never felt comfortable in the team. Shouldn’t this be something a captain should have picked up on? Or did he know but did not care?
It's bitter and cynical ignoramuses like you who know nothing about their relationship that remain part of the problem. I wonder how you'd explain Madiba asking Pienaar if he could be godfather to his (Francois') children? You're not interested in healing this country, only dividing it.
