An extended round of applause for Alex(ander) and George and also Brian and Chris for another great curated week. Sounds to me like the six hour concert was just a case of them getting into an extended jam and forgetting that they were on stage. You can definitely imagine them tripping off for 20mins at a breakdown. Great finale🎉
Frank Marino is one of those names you will see in lists with titles such as, "The Greatest Rock Guitarists," etc., but if you didn't attend a concert you probably never heard Mahogany Rush on the radio. Nice end to this Canada week.
Frank in my opinion is one of the top ten guitarist of all time. That's why eddie van halen seeked him out...fact. Frank is the essence of rock and roll. He can sing his ass off as well......deadly!!
Many years ago, a friend who knew I liked Hendrix, suggested Mahogany Rush, Frank's band. I accidentally bought an album by Rush !! Still a great band but nothing like Hendrix. Then I found Mahogany Rush's Strange Universe which is a great start then the first album Maxoom dedicated to Jimi Hendrix. On their album Tales of the Unexpected they cover All Along the Watchtower and live also covered Johnny B Goode and Purple Haze.
Frank Marino is part of my personal HENDRIX TRIUMVIRATE. I saw Jimi Hendrix live 1970 I saw Robin Trower live 1976 But never saw Mahogany Rush Saw the other Rush 4xs. Sad, he didn't tour the Metro Philadelphia area. This 4th album was excellent. I have the LP.
I'm from Montreal, Québec, and I had the chance to see Frank 14 times in my life. The first time I was sixteen and this fantastic guitar player literally changed my life as a guitar player. Thank you for making British people listening to Frank and knowing him better !
Wow. Never imagined hearing Frank Merino on a reaction channel. You must be the first. Congratulations. Bought the Juggernaut album when I was in my early twenties. Some cracking songs. Strange Dreams is a must listen.
Great choice to close of Canada week. Since I play some guitar, I've spent many hours checking out FM YT videos. Dude is definitely underrated but folks in the guitar community know who he is. Thanks for a great week boys.
Great choice to end Canada Week! I've been a fan since they were just known as Mahogany Rush, and I didn't even know who Frank Marino was. I just really loved their early prog/bluesy sound. Of course, I know who Frank Marino is now, and in fact, whenever the subject of underrated guitarists comes up, he's always the first name that comes to mind. At least, underrated by the general public. I think fellow musicians know how great he is. Hendrix was a big, big influence. He not only did several Hendrix covers, but his playing and vocals overall were heavily influenced by Hendrix. In fact, early on, he was often called a reincarnation of Hendrix. I know the ages don't fit, but it was often joked (?) that when Hendrix died, he was reborn as Frank Marino. That connection of influence and style was a big thing back in the day. That Agora DVD is absolutely brilliant. I'm so glad that he was able to put together such a great live DVD while he still had his health. It looks and sounds great. I think every song has some type of jam/guitar solo, and he absolutely kills it every single time. His stamina and consistency was amazing!
Last year Frank Marino announced that he no longer be touring due to health issues. Saw him / them back in 1976 opening for Nazareth. Fantastic band, fantastic guitarist. Thanks guys.
I can't imagine what it is like to sing at the same time you are playing. But Frank learned or should I say he did them together when he started and has always done it that way which is really rare. And you guys could not have ended Canada week on a finer note.
6 hours while he was 56 years old. Crazy at any age but Frank was a super giver. Praying for his health now. I think he is 69. Saw him 6-7? times Great memories.
I first saw Frank at Sherwood Forest. A little hide away hall in Michigan that holds about 200 people. They served Wiskey soaked watermelon and free joints. It was a party like you have never seen! I saw Nugent, Seger, Bad company and Grand funk there and it was a spiritual experience! IT WAS PRIVATE PROPERTY SO COPS NEVER CAME OUT THERE. We partied jack! People were passed out in the hall, in the grass, and in the trees. God we had fun!!! I miss those days.
I've been a Frank fan since I was a teenager, I love watching these reaction videos, turning people onto Franks's music is one of my hobbies. The reactions always range from awesomeness to mind-blown.
So the story goes Frank Marino, Robin Trower Jimi Hendrix were hanging out the same places during the same time. Listening tSo the story goes Frank Marino, Robin Trower, Jimi Hendrix, or hanging out the same places during the same time. Listening to each other.
You witnessed the Original SHREDDER in action! He was way ahead of everyone back then! He was shredding before EDDIE Van Halen came out! Nobody was doing anything like her was in the 70s!
Check out Ronnie Hawkins 60 birthday at Massey Hall. He has been Father figure teacher confidant to more Canadian musicians as the learned the ropes from him. The most famous would be the band. In this birthday celebration he has The Who’s who of fifties rock. Carl Perkins Jerry Lee Lewis plus many others who played with Ronnie before going out on their own. It comes in two parts about 20 -25 minutes total. Great show.
Frank is after Hendrix but before SRV historically. Always been an incredible blues rock guitarist but it should be mentioned that he has a great voice too!
Marino is Hendrix influenced. Read his Bio. Marino actually influenced SRV in late 70's, and of course, Hendrix did. Both Marino and SRV have done over the top Hendrix covers
@@TheThamesmen Check out his voodoo chile (blues version) of Hendrix. Not to be mistaken like so many do with voodoo child slight return ! video sucks but the audio is great, probably rriped from the album that was recorded in part at the same moment . ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HPUjWIKAYvU.html
Big thanks to Alex, George and Chris for accepting to do this week and to all of those who watched, I really enjoyed it and I hope most of the viewers enjoyed it also. I think it's been a successful week overall, some high point and low points, some controversy... just what you expect from something like this. I especially appreciate all the suggestions people left.
Day six? you buggers are going to wear me out! Fantastic guitar work. This is a classic example of where one band member sits a few levels above the other members. Frank is awesome. This doesn't just happen in Canada. There is a Japanese band called Trident. In their early outings the were dominated by their drummer and it kind of became the 'Juna' (the drummer) show, because she was on a different level to them. She was so far above the other musicians, skill wise, that they parted ways, and they brought in a new drummer. Trident now sounds more complete and is charting. Meanwhile, Juna has become one of the world's most watched drummers and is rumored to be putting her own band together. Which would be awesome. Brian, thank you for giving us so much wonderful music. Canada has long legs, musically speaking, you have only scratched the surface. I look forward to you bringing us Canada Week 3.
Thanks for the support this week, glad you enjoyed it. As for Canada 3, that will depend on whether the guys want one, but if they do I'd be happy to give it another kick using lessons learned here. Or of someone else takes it on, I'll be watching and supporting all the way.
Frank Marino, pure genius. The most underrated guitar player in history. Hendrix was his influence and he has covered several Hendrix songs. Frank Marino has quote a big catalog of music and an awful lot of quality stuff to investigate. Frank might not have gained popularity but you would be surprised how many latter day guitar legends were influenced by him.
Frank is one of the very best.He was doing his thing before the likes of SRV and Van Halen.Always called a Hendrix clone, but he was much more than that.Another great often compared to Hendrix is Robin Trower, another guitar great!
Hey just watching the weather out your part of the world. Whole years rain over the last days. Hoping the two of you and your families are safe and doing well. Take care
You mentioned Stevie Ray Vaughn. Frank Marino is on another level. I know thats quite a starment. I think Frank Marino might be rocks most kick a$$,guitar player.
Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush came out of the Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower camp. I like Marino better because his intonation is cleaner and clearer. Plus, he's using more evolved equipment than his predecessors. However, Hendrix and Trower pioneered the style. Marino also plays keyboards and was innovative in his application of synths in hard rock music. This tells you he is not JUST a great guitar player. He's an all around musician/writer.
It is very hard to sing while riffing like that. I am a guitar player and I used to sing and play at the same time and trying to sing and riff off at the same time requires a special brain that can do both without getting confused! Very few can do this!
I Think Frank is better than both "Stevie" and Jimi"", the whole concert is truly amazing, , I dont think anyone, could blow Frank away on the same stage,
Fantastic stuff! Vaguely reminded me of Jimi Hendrix‘a song Freedom, but only a bit. Frank can definitely play. I really enjoyed that, and the rest of the week too, Brian. Top collection of music!
Interesting Frank got to do a cover for the SRV tribute album and ALSO Albert Kings tribute album. Things that I used to do and I’ll pla the blues for you. Both covers added greatness to the original but I’ll play the blues for you makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck. Best version of it ever. Also franks first live album cover of JohnnyBGoode is unrivaled
My son phoned our local rock radio station Chez 106 in ottawa and requested a Frank Marino song as part of our canadian content rule the D.j. didn't even know who he was so embarrassing
Frank is one my fav. gtr player. Very good Hendrix-style guitarist with great vocals too. He's version of Jimi's "Purple Haze" is one of the best ever. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZusnfhtDcnk.html
It would be cool if you could put a tribute together for Carl? Randy Bachmans brother and drummer for BTO he was an original member of BTO great band plus they are canadian could be an ad on for Canada Week
The fact that you know SRV and not Frank Marino is a crime. Frank is/was a better singer, writer and player, and should be much more famous. I say that without any insult to Stevie.
Hendrix influenced and SRV like, but not at their level. Still good. California Jam is better known as CalJam - there were a few in the 70s with amazing lineups of what are now classic rock bands. Foo Fighters organized a reboot in the 2010s.
@@BrianR. I'm a professional sound engineer, this is absolutely dripping with auto tune. Whether it was included in the live production, or added in post production, I don't know, but his vocals are auto tuned.
