Johan - thank you so much for posting this amazing interview!!! These three men were still so very talented, charming, and lovely, during this time period. Sammy is also the most articulate, he probably could have surely done another talk shows. I just love these men, Frank, Sam, and Deano. Very touching. This is amazing coverage.
Its sad that dino, Frankie, and Sammy died in 1990, 1995, and 1998 due to medical and health issues😭😭😭 ironically, Jerry lewis whom was younger than dean, frank, and Sammy outlived and died in the 2000's
I WISH they could’ve gotten the HBO special with Dean. They would’ve had ONE last show with all 3 together. No offense against Liza, but Frank, Dean, and Sammy is what i wanted to see.
To be honest with you, it was all an act. The Mills Brothers gave him some advice many years ago when he was first starting out because he was so nervous on stage because they were both billed on the same night. The older brother of The Mills Brothers said to him I know you're nervous, so why don't you just get a cigarette and put a drink in your hand and have a little drink or two though he really didn't drink though he had one every now and then and loosened him up and that's how it began. It was all an act if you noticed, he would always do that because he never wanted to change his routine. But I want you to stop and think for a moment, if he was really a drunk or drink heavenly, he would not have been hired in movies, or work for the major networks especially asking him to do years of shows for them. Also pay very close attention he never really drank in the movies with Jerry Lewis it all started having that fake easy going being drunk persona when he was on his own and not with Jerry when he joined the rat pack in Vegas cuz that's what it was all about drinks, cigarettes, gambling, it was good for the casinos because he was a blackjack dealer many years prior to him being with Jerry so to make people feel that he's at Vegas they allowed him to do this and then when he was on his shows he never rehearsed he just showed up and did the show and if he was totally drunk or even if he did drink lightly the networks would never give him a contract. Think about it. I know people in the business that work very close with him and without each other knowing about what we were talking about, he all said the same thing. It was just an image. And the reason why up on stage he had apple juice was because it was almost the same color as hard liquor. And being that the apple juice brand name was martinelli's which almost sounds like Martin is the reason why they continued using apple juice it was just a prop they all said this.
Apparently, the HBO special was after Dino left, who, frankly, was the most important one, since he did all the comedy. Does anyone know if there was a video (or even audio) recording of one of the dates with Dean Martin?
Maybe medicated but not to the point where he wouldn't understand what he was doing maybe for something else it was all an act it was an image that he never got rid of that habit of playing the drunk he figured this is what the public wanted and it became a habit and he never got rid of it nor did he want to however, I do believe that the loss of his son had a lot to do with it. Have you and others pay very close attention he's the only one of the three that is standing straight and when he puts things in his pockets a drunk wouldn't put him in that quickly and if he was intoxicated and not playing the part he would not have stand all that time being interviewed with quick responses I'm sure he would have fallen over by now.
