Great, honest Tribute!!! Thank you! She died on my 15th birthday. I had no clue she even existed. And by that time; I knew all the names from the 1950's. I love this song, BTW!!!
Frank Turners got be one the best singer songwriters in the world and really think he should be more famous than he is because there are people still out there who's never heard of him and his been around for over 20 years
In my own young music journey, kinda funny to think there’s only one degree of separation between me and ‘Sister Rosetta’! I think she would smile if she could hear this!🙂
Stumbled across this and loved it. Never heard FT before but will explore his back catalogue. Re complaints about the songwriting similarities, at the end of the day rock'n'roll / pop is basically about 3 chords so lots of songs sound similar.
This is awesome- he’s doing a podcast with an episode about each song on the album - I’ve listened to 4 so far and they’ve all been great . Please come play in SF soon!
What's going on with the view count? Most of the songs have only a couple thousand clicks... Why are those videos not blowing up when this is an entire new album? I'm confused. But anyway, this is a great recording! Love the new influences - and that all these guitars are electrics. That's what a song about her should sound like!
Funny people keep pointing out Stacy’s Mom, not getting the song is based in Sister Rosetta’s music, which is the basis for EVERY rock song ever. It’s like when people say Harry Potter is just a Star Wars rip off. No Star Wars is just one more version of The Hero story that predates the Jesus Story. On the other hand every time I hear the beginning I expect the podcast to start.
The sound is fucking amazing! I know the studio version. But I did'nt expect that the sound is so fat in this version. Sista Rosetta Tharpe would be proud.
This song sounds like a school project. It sounds like Frank went of wikipedia for a day looking up sister rosetta and then made a song just listing off facts about her life. I'm aware of the podcast and that this is very obviously not true, but it does feel that way to me. I love Frank, and his music will probably always be a huge part of my life, but if this is the direction he's going then i think i have to bail out. Saw him on his Australia tour last year and he rocked the show, but this new album seems so mellowed out and the passion doesn't come through in the music like it used to. The last song that did it for me was 1933 and it's pretty much the only song from Be More Kind that i regularly listen to. I'm not trying to say that he isn't passionate for his music, i'm sure that he is. Not many musicians have the drive to release this many albums this quickly but damn dude, listening to his vocals and his tone and looking at his behaviour isn't fun for me. I don't believe this new album deserves the unbridled praise that it is getting in these comments. If this new direction is where Frank wants to be then i wish him all the best but this was the first album that had to take a break halfway through. I kinda wish he went down the "Sand In The Gears" route that he promised, but i guess it's time to admit we'll probably never see that again
I agree and this is coming from someone who has been listening to Frank since about 100 ish people knew of him, I've followed virtually his entire journey I'm not saying this to be like "oh look at me aren't I hipster" it's so you know where I'm coming from and my immense love for this man, and how he's shaped me as a person, I have several tattoos inspired by his albums and lyrics, hell even my username is homage to one of his songs, but this direction he's taking just isn't doing it for me at all, jinny Bingham's ghost has essences of old Frank in it, sorta the second three years esque but that's about the only song on this album that's worth listening to. It's a damn shame, I'm not going to bail per se but this will be the first album I haven't purchased of his and that's a little sad for me, its not even the subject matter of the album, that I actually quite like and think is an important message to get across, it's the execution of it that's poorly done imo.
@@richhines5723 Chill, I'm allowed to critique my favourite artists work. He's not infallible and in fact I don't think he'd want to be. I was expressing why this album doesn't do it for me, if it doesn't for you good for you. I'm glad you like it but this one is a miss for me. Maybe I'm hung up on the past albums, maybe it just doesn't fit my neatly crafted mold, whatever it is I just can't get into it, it's that simple.
I could listen to this for days on repeat. Such a beautiful tribute to such a wonderful woman. (And if the drummer could please marry me, that'd be great...)
Good question. Nation Radio 106.8 FM brought Frank into my life and advertised his Cardiff gig in February which I attended. Best gig I've been to this millenium.
