Bucky Pizzarelli & Frank do the classic Limehouse Blues. It goes from a leisurely statement of the melody into overdrive @1:15 and ends with the frets aboutready to catch fire. Great stuff.

@stangosnell1201 9 лет назад
The 7th string is tuned to A, like every other jazz guitar player tunes it. Bucky is John Pizzarelli's father, and started the 7-string jazz thing, along with George Van Eps. He's been doing it since the 70's, and better than most anyone. He's a legend in the jazz scene.

What an honor and a pleasure would be for Frank to play with one of his heroes. BTW: Did he just come from the army?
@telsonater

If he took it from a bass it would be 5x wider And that "old guy" is Bucky Pizzarelli. Look him up

I'm talking bass guitar. On a four string, they are tuned like the bottom four strings of a guitar, so I assumed the fifth string would be a B like it is on a guitar, and he took that B string and stuck it on the bottom of his guitar.

Geez...they play this so fast that Frank looses half of his hair! Woo-Hoo!

Okay, I trust you. I admit I'm not too familiar with basses. I believe you considering you know much more than I do on the matter. Cheers

Unfortunately Bucky passed away last month, april 2020. I bet his son Martin is at the acoustic bass in the background sound.
@ironeagle7458
@ironeagle7458 4 года назад
The bass you here is Bucky himself. Part of the wider range he was able to achieve with his extra bass string - 7 string guitar. 2 virtuoso on this classic.

You sure? It looks like the high b from a five string bass. Looks about the size it would be.

Is the older guy playing a 7-string with a low B?
@davidmurray591
@davidmurray591 2 года назад
Yeah it would be a B
@telsonater
@telsonater 11 лет назад
I play a six string bass. The low B is the fattest one. .130 gauge. The high C is .032

you lame ass moron, bucky [old guy] wouldn't play with frank [young guy] unless he totally respected and fully endorsed his playing.

looks like it, yeah. he probably took the B string from a 5 string bass
@telsonater
@telsonater 11 лет назад
You assume incorrectly. I've been a bass player for almost 15 years. I play 4, 5 and 6 string basses. I know what you're talking about, and you are in way over your head here. From low to high its, B, E, A, D, G. Trust me
@SaccoBelmonte
@SaccoBelmonte 5 лет назад
A, E, A, D, G, B, E....trust me :) They double the A to be able to play the same chords they're used to but with a beefier bass note one octave lower on chords with the bass in the 5th string in 6 string guitars.

@@SaccoBelmonte You are correct, sir. I had the great honor to meet Bucky during his collaboration with Gearge Barnes back in the early 70s. They were playing at Upstairs at the Downstairs in New York and I was sitting not ten feet from them as they jammed. My uncle played trumpet in the Tonight Show band back then and, along with Mrs. Barnes, we were the entire audience. It was an amazing night watching that duo breaking in their act. Bucky showed me his guitar and explained how the extra low A string gave more flexibility as an accompaniest. I will never forget it.
