A guitarists, guitarist...that's Frank Vignola! A class act that is truly a master of the guitar. Such technique, skill and professionalism. I wish I could have had a teacher like him when I was learning to play. Thanks for the great videos Frank...you're the man!!! And a big shout out for your sideman! You guys kick butt!
A "Fantasie" on "Tico Tico..." Vignola and Raniolo have to be the greatest guitar duo performing today... I can't imagine another regular working unit that could equal these two. "Chops" are worthless without "Musicality," and these guys have both. (Vignola's effortless precision never fails to stun me.) I was introduced to the work of these gents through one of my students, who actually knows them, and my listening-life has been enriched as a result.
Beautiful performance. I remember when Frank came and gave a master class at Winthrop University and he was phenomenal in performance and teaching. Please come back again!
Saw him tonight at a small acoustic /folk venue in Ct where I volunteer. One of the best I've seen. Up there with Tommy E. He had the rythum guy, and a bass player who once accompanied Les Paul. Sorry I forgot their names. I'll never forget that performance. Funny guy also, stopped mid song to pose for a photo.
Sadly Jazz sales have declined drastically the past decade - it is by far the least popular genre in the US. It is a challenge to find jazz stations on the radio (and often they are smooth jazz) - and because young people aren't getting exposed, fewer and fewer people become active listeners. If it weren't for RU-vid a lot of great instrumentalists like Vignola and Raniolo would have even less recognition.
I'll just say it - I believe Frank Vignola is the greatest player on the planet!! I mean that, but you should also see the other video where Vinnie takes the lead on Tico Tico...it's astounding, too!
