Fun Fact: Shanghaied originally aired as a Special called "You Wish" where people could vote online or over the phone who got to make the Dutchman's last wish. They changed the audio for the Patchy scenes afterwards which is why some of the lip movements don't line up. It's also why he has so many phones. The other two endings and some extra Patchy scenes are available on RU-vid.
And I remember the first few times it was aired as "Shangheid", they didn't even show the Patchy segments. As such, when I first saw the Patchy parts, I didn't think it was something that was attached to the episode.
I do kinda wish the other alternative endings were more fleshed out and didn’t both end with them getting eaten but it’s still a cool piece of SpongeBob history.
Fun Fact: the perfume department was filmed at a Macy's. Macy's West is given a special thanks in the closing credits along with Nickelodeon's The Amanda Show.
A couple pieces of trivia regarding the live segments - You're correct that Patchy is played by Tom Kenny, SpongeBob's voice actor, but you may not have known that the voice of Potty, his parrot, was the late Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob. And the artist from Frankendoodle is Mr. Lawrence (aka, Doug Lawrence), one of the show's writers and the voice actor of several characters including Plankton and Larry.
THE MOST CLASSIC AND MEMORABLE EPISODES OF SEASONS 1-3: Season 1 - Rock Bottom, Pizza Delivery, SB-129, and F.U.N. Season 2 - Band Geeks, Graveyard Shift, Frankendoodle, Sailor Mouth, and Dying For Pie Season 3 - The Nasty Patty, Chocolate With Nuts, and Wet Painters
I love how the girl has clearly seen the episodes before but she goes along just for him to have a great time watching these amazing episodes for the first time 😁😁
Clariss is her name. She wasn't so good at spoiling quite a few things in previous episodes for Tim & more importantly the viewer. I'm just catching up watching these reaction vids. I've seen most of these episodes on tv long ago, but I don't remember everything & find it quite annoying when Clariss blurts out spoilers.
@@_MjG_ she can do what she wants if it bothers him he'd tell her, so it only bothers you, also it's not a "spoiler" for you even if you forget :) you've seen it
@@ChrissaTodd When I didn't see the episodes for 20 years they are spoilers, because I didn't remember what happened. I emphasized her spoiling it more so for the viewers. I made that comment a few months after the video was posted, so not many people seen my comment. I got a few likes so I'm not the only one it bothered, unlike you tried to claim. What's it to you anyways when I post my opinion? That's what the RU-vid comment section is for.
Cool reaction guys. Fun Fact the artist in the pencil episode is Mr. Lawrence who is the voice of Plankton on the show. He's also done voice work for other animated shows and is one hell of an animator for his own shorts.
Only through recent reactions I've noticed the "Get Welded" line on Welcome To The Chum Bucket and it never fails to make me die laughing whenever I hear it
Could never get enough of Patchy. Shanghaied = favorite Spongebob episode. Btw, if the anchor is a baby does that mean the ship gave birth out of nowhere, LOL?!
Those episodes got me laughing so hard. Shanghaied and Frankdoodle has the best and funny parts that made them so memorable and became great memes 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Shanghaied episode is arguably one of the more memorable and prized season 2 episodes. It aired by itself on March 9, 2001. And then aired in its 15 minute format the next day. It didn’t air again until July 26th, 2003 due to its sister episode airing (yet Gary Takes a Bath debuted on June 17th, 2002 on Nicktoons). Frankendoodle is one of my all time favorite episodes due to the chaos and memorable stuff like “Finland!”, and Welcome to the Chum Bucket being funny due to SpongeBob still disobeying Plankton and him being annoyed! As for Doodlebob returning, I heard he does in an episode called Doodle Dimension, which I haven’t watched.
I see parallels between the last episide in this video, and a comedy novel I loved as a kid: "The Ransome of Red Chief". In this novel, two criminal decide to kidnap a son of a wealthy man, to profit off of it. But the kid turns out to be a spoiled brat. Instead of being cruel to the kid, they play along in hopes he would behave if they do what he wants... But he keeps on driving them crazy, untio they finally give up - They come to the kid's dad oractucally in tears, begging for him to take his son back, to which the dad asks for a fee. They hapilly comply, as they end up paying HIM money and run miles away, in hopes to never see that kid again
“Shanghaied” is as actually a choose your own ending episode. People from around the world had the chance to vote for their favorite ending for the episode by phoning in Nickelodeon, choosing three options, SpongeBob’s ending, Patrick’s, or Squidward’s. Ultimately, SpongeBob’s ending was chosen. The other two can be seen on RU-vid if you’re curious about them.
@@warrenmfouapon Spongebob's is the best wish out of the three. Patrick wished for bubble gum, and Squidward wished that Spongebob & Patrick doesn't know him, which those 2 endings ended up getting eaten by the Flying Dutchman
@@kaleodoeseverything Exactly. Better with SpongeBob’s ending with them being chased by the Flying Dutchman than having the episode end with them actually being eaten.

Frankendoodle is one of my personal favorite Spongebob episodes as it gives some creativity by messing around with the magic pencil to create art around the world Spongebob and Patrick live in. And the fact I'm personally an artist myself.
Thank you Tim and Clariss for reacting on one of my favorite classic spongebob episodes on my birthday! Shanghaied and Frankendoodle are my top favorites!
Believe it or not, the “Shanghaied” episode was originally a pick your own ending episode. Like, when it first aired, the people watching at home had to pick how it ends. The episode had two alternate endings. One of them was Squidward having the final wish, which ended up all of them being eaten, and another one was Patrick getting the final wish, which also ended up all of them being eaten. Most people voted SpongeBob, so they pretty much made that the permanent ending of the episode. It was actually really interesting how they let the audience decide what’s going to happen at the end.
I was always suspicious in my youth if our call ins mattered for cartoons or if the shows just used the endings they wanted. Like Spongebobs wish is uquie well Squidwards and Patrick's are almost the same clip. It was still fun at the time though to call in or go online and vote our little hearts out. My biggest memories being voting Spongebob, choicing Hero or Villian in El Tigre and Total Drama winners
Fun Fact: (If it hasn't been said already) The person playing the artist is Mr. Lawrence, same voice as Plankton, Larry the Lobster and the announcer fish!
Shanghaied has my favorite line in all of Spongebob. "Don't worry, we can buff out those scratches!" 😆😆😆 Yeah, I don't think you're getting rid of those ones Spongebob! LOL
The Flying Dutchman was just lonely and wanted shipmates and SpongeBob and Patrick’s howling was really funny and definitely wanted to know what Squidward was going to say for his since he didn’t get one, and the second episode I felt like Gary was already cleaned enough so that’s why Gary didn’t want to take a bath instead had SpongeBob take a bath cause he fell in the mud knowing that he was actually dirty to take one, and third episode shows us how SpongeBob looks as a funny drawing and when he is always angry lol. Awesome reactions Tim and Clariss to these SpongeBob episodes
Back in November, when my best friend and I went to the Grand Rapids Comic Con, there was someone who cosplayed as DoodleBob and it was definitely a spot on recreation of the character plus he was carrying the giant pencil. I also believe that he won one of the awards at the cosplay contest. There were actually a lot of people there dressed as SpongeBob characters because Tom Kenny was there doing photo ops and autographs. We wanted to see him but it was quite expensive and his line was ridiculously long.
“Frankendoodle” is like another version of Frankenstein I like the song in “Welcome to the Chum Bucket” titled “This Grill is Not a Home.” Lyrics: 🎼 SpongeBob: A stove is a stove, no matter where you go. Mr. Krabs: A patty is a patty, that's what I say. SpongeBob: A grill is a grill, this is surely so. Mr. Krabs: And fries should be fries either way! SpongeBob: But this grill is not a home, this is not the stove I know... Mr. Krabs: I would trade it all away if you'd come back to stay... Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob: This kitchen's not the same without you! Mr. Krabs: It's just a greasy spoon, SpongeBob: Just a greasy spoon, Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob: Without you... 🎶
DoodleBob does indeed return in a more recent season. Along with many other characters who had one off appearances in older seasons. Some become regulars. Even Count Orlok/Nosferatu.
Shanghaied 10/10 Kid: the writers of the episode are dorks Me: Yes but they are my dorks Gary Takes a Bath 8/10 Remember don't drop the doubloons Welcome to the Chum Bucket 8/10 Just a greasy spoon, without YOU Frankendoodle 11/10 Are the writers of this episode okay? FINLAND
Sorry if i'm a little late, Timothee, but this was a great Spongebob reaction. Thanks, and a happy wednesday morning to you as well. Take care and God bless you, see you soon and greetings from Colombia to you as well.
I think the episode "Gary Takes a Bath" solidifies the metaphor that snails in this show are cats. After all, with a few exceptions, cats HATE water and bathing in general since cats can clean themselves.
Fun fact, there was also multiple endings for Shanghaied to see who got the final wish. Patrick wished for gum, which got them eaten. Squidward's ending was I think he hadn't met SpongeBob and Patrick, which of course got them eaten too. The third was SpongeBob's ending which they made as a canon ending to the episode, however in Hindsight SpongeBob should've worded his wish carefully.
37:47 If that was you asking what “half-pint” meant (because metric system), it’s not a very large amount of liquid, therefore it’s a “Plankton is short” joke.
30:49 as a matter of fact, yes. DoodleBob does indeed return in a future episode called "Doodle Dimension." Obviously it'll be awhile before you get to that though as that episode is from Season 11
The one thing I like Shanghaied is that it has two different endings because I have the DVD of this episode with Squidward's where he whished that he never met Spongebob and Patrick only for for the flying dutchman to make it that they literally never like spongebob and Patrick introducing themselves to Squidward again and the other one I'd Patrick's ending where he just makes his last wish be gum and I always loved this episode because of how funny it was and the Is perfume department absolutely kills me due to how funny and out of nowhere it is
Where i lived they only showed the enfing where Squidward get the wish, he whishes for he never meet SpongeBob and Patrick and they just forget him right there, so they present each other to Squidward and the three of them were eaten by the flying Dutchman and SpongeBob is still presenting himself to Squidward inside Flying Dutchman's belly
