Been playing for 52 years, saw Zappa,35 times, grew up listening to the Winters and Derringer even to tady. But what I just saw you play was one of the most incredible covers ever.Bravo !!!@
I was just thinking about learning all the synth stuff recently, and then thought,"Theres gotta be some badass with a camera that did." and sure enough, here he is. Incredible playing!
Absolutely amazing guitar work. Some of the best I’ve ever seen. I just wish I had the TABS for the whole thing! No way I can keep track of it just by watching him play.
My first album purchase was when I was 10 years old back in 1973, and it was "They Only Come Out At Night", specifically for the unedited cut. Our local radio station chopped it to pieces. It took me a while to save enough allowances to buy it, but worth every penny.....and, _BONUS_ ,"Free Ride" was on it too.
Best guitar cover I’v heard yet. Really rocked it up from the original song. Especially the bridge solo.he fills in the bridge parts with no no frills solos.
Back when this was played constantly on the country[s first FM stations (ah, I didn't appreciate 19 and 20 when I lived those years!), we guitarists really didn't think one could play the synth parts. Just brilliant! Thank you for your dedication to the instrument.
In the 70s people into rock automatically hated disco. I could be wrong, 70s was before my time. Born 66. I didn’t get into music until 79-80. I liked Bee Gees, then I heard KISS alive. You can’t listen to the bee gee’s, wearing steel toed boots, billfold chain harley davidson with bell bottom jeans. I remember seeing Ted nugent on TV, playing live, his hollow body Gretch double picking fast on his hollow body. Ted says (let’s see those disco (bleep)f*’*ers’ play that! Even then I knew ‘earth wind fires’ guitarist would shred Ted nugent if he played aggressive. Mahogany rush would have NO problem jamming ,earth wind fire, because frank Marino will start playing Christmas carols. Piercing the ears, screaming beautiful Melodie’s climaxing into catastrophic meteorite bombardment, earth shattering, tectonic up thrust. Uli jon Roth, Shawn lanes once upon time in the west. To paint pictures of earth and space. Jimi Hendrix
My favorite song ever... Played it on guitar but never as good as that... You got it down pat.. Im going to use your video as a tutorial for myself... You should tab this out
Super work mate 💯% I've been waiting to find someone who has worked the synth solo out.... 🌟👍 Any chance you have some tab for that bit... ?? I've got all the other bits down...
No tabs for it, but I’ve been thinking about maybe doing a video lesson on how I did that part since I get asked about it a lot. It’s not *quite* exactly every note Edgar plays, but it’s relatively close. I had to kind of “guitar-ify” a little bit to give it the same flow. But yea, maybe be on the lookout for a video lesson on the tapping part.
Someone finally played synth solo ,hammer on taps on guitar. Good job. This is better than Gary joeys, version. Also another guy from early 90s (album called defence mechanisms I think?) I dont think he played synth solo either
No problem! I think for this I was just using the Plini plugin from Neural DSP, but I have played it live a few times with some different setups. I usually do a fairy straightforward rock tone for the riffs. For the solos, I’d maybe add a little delay to give it some synthy spaciness. I kind of also liked putting on a subtle phaser like an Phase 90 for the synth solo. Kind of puts an interesting spin on it.
minute 0:00: Okay, this sounds great, what a great mix of sounds minute 1:01 OH SHIT HOLY MOTHER OF JESUS WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!!??? minute 2:00 *mind blowing* great skills :D great version, I love it
I do not as I sort of just played it rather than work out every note of it. Not to plug myself or anything, but I do offer Skype/video call lessons if you ever want to go over some of the concepts I use in this solo such as that tappy stuff for the synth part 😉
Excellent job, nice improv! The sound you dialed in is way classic, amazing "growl". Sound is as important as technique as far as I'm concerned and many guitarists have great technique but lack in sound. What amp were you using or was that direct? Keep up the good work.
This was direct and using some Neural DSP plugins. I think it was the Plini edition. I have actually been getting back into recording physical amps though lately. Finally got the space set up for it. I’m finding one of the best of that is actually still using the plug-ins, but combining them with an actual amp sound, and blending the two.
