Penny Dreadful is true gothic storytelling. It was dark, profound and a poetic tragedy. Its the most beautiful show ive seen honestly. I look forward to seeing how the show tackles mexican and southern american folk tales.

Honestly, I’m totally disappointed with the very limited screen time that they’ve given Rory Kinnear, I’ve waited every week to watch him and his screen time gets less and less every week! What is up with that?

penny dreadful was sooo good, great acting by all, beautiful production and some neat storytelling to intertwine all the literary "monsters and mad men" - i think the final season was a tad rushed, but still a great series overall - hoping they can create the same "magic" with city of angels!

This was actually a rather accurate representation of Frankenstein's monster

I have to say, one thing I really liked about Penny Dreadful's version of Frankenstein's Monster is that because it's in a more modern-day setting, people seem to be a little more more accepting of the Creature's appearance (they assume he got disfigured in some industrial accident or something).

There was a time when meadow, grove, and stream, The earth, and every common sight, To me did seem Apparelled in celestial light, The glory and the freshness of a dream. It is not now as it hath been of yore;- Turn wheresoe'er I may, By night or day. The things which I have seen I now can see no more. -But there's a Tree, of many, one, A single field which I have looked upon, Both of them speak of something that is gone; The Pansy at my feet Doth the same tale repeat: Whither is fled the visionary gleam? Where is it now, the glory and the dream?

Here is the description of Frankenstein's Creature from the novel: "His limbs were in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful. Beautiful!--Great God! His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriances only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips." So gaunt, yellow skin, yellow watery eyes, straight black lips, and long black hair. No bolts, no stitches. Penny Dreadful is the most visually accurate depiction of the Creature that I've ever seen in film, TV, or comics. It's not perfect: Penny Dreadful gives him white skin rather than yellow, and in the novel the Creature is about 8 feet tall. I can forgive both of these inaccuracies: it probably wasn't practical for the TV to make him so tall, and I bet they tried yellow skin and decided that white would like better on camera, as in they thought it would convey the IMPRESSION that Shelley was going for more so than a more literal recreation of her description. Another thing that they get right in the show is that the Creature is superhuman. In the novel, he is super-strong, super-fast, super-agile (he climbs better than an Assassin's Creed protagonist), super-smart, he can tolerate heat, cold, and rough conditions better than a human, and he can survive on a more rudimentary diet. He's not immortal or unkillable though. I teach the novel Frankenstein every year in a course on the history of science fiction. For this reason, the Creature was my favorite part of the Penny Dreadful series--the only media depiction of the character that got him right.

I think this is how it all started and how we were created.

Do I remember it correctly the Rory Kinnear's Creature is not the first one Dr Frankenstein created. At the very end of season 01 episode 01, we see the "first" creature?

In the original story the creature was brought to life through the use of electric eels not lightning.

It's not really know what actually happened in the book and it is hinted to be lighting and you maybe thinking of the movie I am Frankenstein

Mark Booming I read an edited version of the original story about a year ago. It was mainly him just using chemicals and small electronic shocks I think.

In Mary Shelley's book, the monster is not brought into life by the use of electricity. Actually the facts of how Frankenstein created him, are not clearly explained. I would say that Penny Dreadful is the most accurate representation of the original story of the Doctor and the creature!
