@clareparks5157 Yeah, man, not to mention being instantly transported to 7th grade! I wore these three songs out year FGTH and Depeche Mode! Great year!
Still fantastic in 2024 one of the best bands ever, this tune has stood the test of time and still sounds fresh with or without holly Johnson,, one of the best performances ever and they have not changed at all with Ryan fantastic Malloy.😮, it’s about time they went on the road again, xxxx
@@Bassman1969 I do know he was the original bassist for FGTH from 82. You could try Googling him: English bassist Mark O’Toole, he was born the same year as my husband 64.
4:06 Hands down, the most phenomenal rock performance I've ever seen. FGTH is incredible, and Ryan Molloy...I don't have words for this guy except that he has it ALL. WOW!
I was lucky enough to see FGTH live at Red Rocks in Colorado back in the 80s for the Pleasuredome tour. It's one concert I will never forget. Billy Idol even said that FGTH was one of the most energetic bands he had heard at the time. They were. He was correct.
I love the way all those other groups were talking smack about FGTH. The LOL petshop boys said it's just sad before the concert. Then they are asked to close the show!
Ryan's voice is closer to Holly's live voice I guess. You might also want to check out the casting video here on YT when Paul Rutherford et al were looking for a new front man because Holly Johnson couldn't be persuaded to perform at this event. Just search for 'Casting 2004, Frankie goes to Hollywood' 😉
@@SleepSoundsAndBabyLullabies he did for a very short time but the other members had prior entanglements and for a while certain members, at different times, performed with the Trevor Horn band. Everyone wanted to go on, but fate had other plans... then Ryan became the favorite, longest running, most awarded Frankie Valli in the West End production of Jersey Boys. They've never said outright but by piecing together over 50 interviews from both the real FV and Ryan.... ONE of the reasons FV doesn't care for the movie is the choice of lead actors , that he preferred Ryan but Clint Eastwood, the director, f-ed it up. As I said, FV never said it outright, but if you watch as many interviews as I have in the past 5 years, it's pretty evident Ryan was FV choice for not only the movie, but more of the album although Ryan does sing Beggin' on the album
As far as I remember, there was a fuss between Holly and Ryan. The previous front man (Holly) couldn't get on with the new one (Ryan). Anyhow, here we see a tremendous stage success of the whole lot of the band. Playing nonstop this particular music piece is a long sweaty job for the substructure (drums, guitars- especially base guitar, percussions and so). But they did so well, it was a very very good live performance. I wish those times could come back and the world be happy again😊
I think the backdrop for this performance goes back to their VH1 Reuniting the Band episode. The rest of the band wanted to do the reunion but Holly Johnson refused. Fast forward to the prep for this event. They are asked to perform/reunite for this Trevor Horn tribute and they do an open audition call for a lead singer. Considering that the band had limited practice time, been out of the business, and were featuring a replacement singer, I think it is an awesome performance.
Great version. Holly is no loss. But I never understood Paul's role. He can't sing, he can't compose or write lyrics, he doesn't play an instrument. They kept him along for a long time just for the little bit of dancing.
I kind of think of Paul as a junior front man he probably did get lucky to get this gig. However I feel he connects with the audience. And brings great energy and dance moves with a few "who and ha's" thrown in.
Who would have known that Frankie could function so well without Holly. The band are really great musicians. Not only they functioned well but thrived Ryan Malloy so mesmerizing and charismatic. I know he ended up going on tour with them and ended up heading Jersey Boys what a wonderful talent why is he not more famous?
Superb rendition and sounds great. It does miss the magic though. Missing two people and whilst is a great 60% there with superb musical sound needs Hj and Nasher. Seen HJ a few times try it and simply always misses the atmosphere as exposed on own.
