I was 14 when this was released and I recall seeing the movie "Body Double". At the time, I was living in a small town in the pre-Internet world. Our only portal to the outside world was cable tv (movies, music videos, etc), radio and magazines. This version of the video was my favorite as it highlighted a lifestyle only existing in larger, far away places...at least in my small town, adolescent mind at the time.
I was nine ,obsessed too, huge crush on Holy ,but the music in this top movie to say the least will forever be golden, the movie ,actors, music ...some kind of genius perfect sereen ..
it's weird because in the film the hero's shooting a porn film, then it turns into a Frankie video, then he's having a regular conversation with his co-star during the shooting.
@@davidjames579 I think it was meant to capture the hedonistic / pleasure principle side of the film with the porn / adult entertainment industry - ie "it just happens to be" as opposed to the film revolving around it - huge difference! because the Scully character was experiencing ptsd of seeing his crush (Deborah Shelton) get murdered in front of his very eyes, which compounded with his claustrophobia - The ptsd was seeing Melanie Griffith's Holly (meant to be an adult film star) do the same dance moves as Gloria, using the world of adult entertainment as a plot device was a little bit of a stretch, but it got to where the film needed to be at the end. (You gotta finish what you started!) Ps the last third of the film (when porn / adult entertainment was introduced) was unimportant, the film pretty much said all it needed to say in the first 2/3rds, and there was hardly any dialogue in the first 2/3rds and Holly Johnson is the lead singer of Frankie Goes to Hollywood
I sort of thought it was DePalma's way of saying -- if a talented director did a porn it would be erotic and visually dazzling- kind of like the rumored point behind Blue Movie ( Terry Southern's premise/what if a Kubrick type directed a porno)-to me he proved his point pretty well
@@farmerbrown2a This was not the music video. This was: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yem_iEHiyJ0.html And the song was also banned from UK radio.
This video used to play all the time on MTV when Body Double came out. The song was a smash hit in the United States, it was shown at night on Mtv, not during the day however.
@@farmerbrown2a that's because it wasn't. I saw it many times as a kid, but you had to be watching Mtv at night, they wouldn't show it during daytime hours.
Oh my god! I can't believe that they were allowed to play this on MTV in the 80s when I was a kid. I was too young to understand but now that I'm older I most certainly do. I haven't seen this video since the early 80s, Yeah I get it now!😳
Still as awesome as the first time I heard. I absolutely love this song! It’s a great shame that he died so young, he had so much more to give the world.
HOW MANY DIFFERENT OFFICIAL VIDEOS FOR THIS DAMM SONG ARE THERE? This is like the third or fourth different edit I've seen of the version taken mostly from the Body Double movie alone!
The first one (set in the gay bar) was banned by MTV and the BBC so a second one (the one with all of the lasers) was done so the song could have a video playing on TV. This version was done (I believe) as a music video to play within the movie Body Double (I’ve never seen the film myself so I’m going based off second hand sources)
The best version is from the actual movie Body double and that version is even more immersive if you watch it within the context, which is to say the movie Body double:)
I adore all of Brian DePalma's work, IMO he is the best director to emerge from the 70s indie - later cashing in - group (Hal Ashby is maybe a bit elder in terms of that?) The (early) 80s were awesome from a music/film standpoint! after 1984, not so much :((
the best part of this video was when he had to back away from someone being too close to his personal space, indicating that he was still 'in character' (the character suffered from claustrophobia) 👌🏻
A great song that was featured in an underrated movie. Although not quite a "classic" movie, I enjoyed Body Double, and it didn't deserve to flop at the Box Office. It's a decent amalgamation of Alfred Hitchcock's, Rear Window and Vertigo. Far superior to Depalma's dire attempt at an homage to Hitch's Psycho, that was Dressed to kill.
great flick but i thought the actress that played the brunette was way friggin hotter than melanie griffith.....and nothin hotter too than shiny black leather....
