Poor man - so much talent that he then gets hammered for being awarded top R&B awards. I think, can't recall, that only Stevie Wonder came out to support him and say soul is soul regardless of race. Black radio has been playing the singles and his album before these awards so they were happy to listen to the amazing tunes but not to this extent.
This version of Sentimental Lady is actually a rerecording. Welch's original version was for the 1972 Fleetwood Mac album Bare Trees. This version for Welch's 1977 solo album, French Kiss, has Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie from Fleetwood Mac on background vocals, with Lindsey on guitar and Mick Fleetwood on drums. Lindsey and Christine were also producers on the song.
Around this time our boy Dee Dee was off his meds against doctor's orders and it produced this awful beautiful masterpiece lol. Gotta love Dee Dee !!!!
