No effects, no scratching, no unnecessary knob-adjusting, no jumping around like he's having convulsions, not even any engagement with the crowd. He just lets the music speak for itself. RIP.
Exactly DJing like it should be done, Tired of watching dj's faking stuff turning knobs for what, and screaming everybody jump just to get some crowd reaction, because they bore the hell out of people, instead of focusing on their craft and playing top music, they focus on being a star, and look at this room has more life then those dj's playing at 50,000 crowd festivals, where they need to scream at the crowd and wear halloween costumes to get them to do something, Pathetic!!!!!!! Frankie Knuckles total respect. People will be watching this more and more as they get sick and tired of the fake stuff and come back to the roots of all that crap they made it into and just make it simple and dance till they drop. Like the good old days..
In theory, nothing, but they very often are deployed to hide the fact that the music's sub-standard. It's like going to watch a film and getting excited about the explosions and fight scenes, regardless of how poor the story and characters are. In respect of the knob twiddling, why the need to constantly mess with your levels? Again, I find it's a way of the DJ trying to distract the crowd from poor music and trying to make it look like they're constantly 'doing something'. Just my opinion of course.

Girl in the white top. No bag,no phone and dancing like she's the only one there. The way we all used to. No hang ups whatsoever. The one and only thing this kind of music was created for....people who love to dance!!!
1:03:50 when he placed both hands on his heart it brought tears to my eyes. it's impossible to overstate what Frankie did for a generation of LGBTQ Black, Brown, and White kids growing up in the 70s and 80s, the HOPE contained in these tracks is undeniable..you think about the length of his career, how many sets just like this he played, and the amount of joy, hope, and affirmation he brought to so many people. rest in peace KING
Well said. He definitely made my life better. I saw him many times in NY, Washington, Bmore, etc. In the late 80s early to mid 90s. I started djing in 92 because of him, Louie Vega, Todd Terry, and the likes. RiP
He earned himself a place amongst legends. He's been included in the music section of The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture in DC.
I stumbled across this video and am sad to hear that you have passed. I am sure you wouldn't have remembered me, but know that you spared some time for me and that simple act of kindness to a kid from the ghetto sparked a wonderfully lived life. I always figured I would get to thank you in person but I see the time for that has passed. So if there is a heaven, I hope you get to look down upon my words and know that your words helped saved a life from poverty and disrepair. I didn't go on to be the DJ that I said I would be, but I did get to see the world, have kids and now in the 51st year of my life, am happily married and living a life I never thought possible. Thank you brother, god bless and may we meet in the next life.
Tht is so Beautiful wht a Testimony God Bless so happy his word's helped u become a BETTER YOU. Hugs n Blessings frm a sister LOVE U LIVE UR LIFE TO THE FULLEST ALONG WTH UR FAMILY. BKLYN N.Y. 6/23/20
15:10 “God has a place on the dancefloor. We wouldn’t have all the things we have if it wasn’t for God. We wouldn’t have the one thing that keeps us sane - music. It’s the one thing that calms people down." - Frankie Knuckles :') RIP.
i used to go see him all the time in chicago, and he never dissappointed. you're right, they are lucky, and i'm sure they had as much as i always did. *knucks*
Call me old. Whatever. But I am so glad we didn’t have cell phones back in the day. Just 100% in the moment. I’m thankful for all the fuzzy, cloudy memories. RIP Frankie.
For those who don't know, he invented House music. He's also known as "The Godfather of House". Bless him for making such a beautiful genre! Without him, we wouldn't have electronic music.
Look at the guy in the middle of that room, humble as shit, just sitting there throwing tunes as if nothing special is happening. Just tunes for the people to dance. Like he's not really playing a very important part in it. Only a truly special person could behave like that.

When I read about Frankie Knuckles death and asked 'Who was he", now that I listened to this I feel like an idiot because I realize I've been listening to his mixes for over 20 years.
Haha me too. I use to be a bartender back in collage 10 years ago. Bartenders go to after hours to unwind and this was the scene. I miss those days. Listening to his music gives me memories i didn't even know i had.

I'm from south Africa 🇿🇦 and this music was the sound track to our childhood in the 90s and fast forward to today we're one of the global leaders of house music from Afro house, deep soulful house, Amapiano, and now 3 step all thanks to the legendary for the inspiration ,May his soul RIP❤❤❤
RIP frankie , only 12 months before he died and here he is suffering from diabetes and all the health issues that brings with it and he is still totally holding this crowd in the palm of his hand.
No Frankie Knuckles, no house music. No beautiful scene as we know it today loved by millions all over the world regardless of race, color or creed. Chi-town, give it up. RIP, Frankie...
I saw his last ever set in England at the Ministry. The legend lives on in every one of us. House music all night long. The music of a generation. R.I.P , The Godfather of House Music. Thankyou.
I keep coming back to this set over and over again, it's now 2022 ans it still makes me jam out. Frankie's one of my bigger inspirations when it comes to DJing. I just wish I was able to see him live before he passed away. RIP!
So many Boiler Rooms where people are not dancing. This one is just filled with love, people are jumping everywhere because, you know it, this is Frankie.
Funny thing is i used to go to clubs where he was doing a set and had no idea i was a few feet from a legend, what i did know was the music took me on a journey.....
What a set, what a legend, what a total dude. With music like this you don't need even alcohol to keep you dancing. It's what disco and dance music is all about. Righteous! R.I.P.

This set is absolute perfection. If you understand what this is about you understand the power of how house music can bring pure freedom and joy to you. In even the toughest times, listening to this, you can just let go to all of the stresses of the world around you. It's like medicine for the brain, a cure from stress, anxiety, fear. There will never be another human being like FK and I hope his music will continue to be cherished for years and generations to come. Blessings to all those listening to this who get made to feel so special, just like I do, when vibing to this.
think house.think frankie. for us old cunts on here old enough to remember the '86/87 period it was awash with luther vandross , rollys royce, atlantic starr ,col abrahams and fucking five starr , then you pioneers gave us a sprinkling of magic dust, that took us on a different trajectory. without you i might have been into fucking heavy metal or a goth, with an addiction to snakebite. anyway i digress, think' house','think frankie knuckles. epic times.another bit of your history dies
Oh man..... Watching this during Feb 2021, Pandemic in full force. There's a lot of things I miss. Dancing for hours to house music, I miss the most!!!! Thank you for posting this!!! RIP
i discovered this guy very recently, appears he's the godfather of house music, and he past away last year... seriously i'm so sad right now..... he left one of the greatest legacy ever .... House music ... Rip
this entire mix is playing at a house party in Brooklyn and its pumping hard! 1000 watt sound system 80" 4K screen- its like being there live this is so amazing about 78 altogether!!!!!!!! Thank you Frankie for the mix RIP!
Back in the day. The only reason to stop dancing, was to take a line. Not chatting on a phone. This is how soft people have gotten 😂 Great mix of old school house. Frankie Knuckles is a legend
R.I.P to Frankie and to Larry. I grow up listening to these guys. This takes me back to the late 70's and all of the 80's, for me when you had clubs in NYC like The Garage, Bentley's, Studio 54, Silver Shadow, Bonds International, and so many more doing there thing. We use to hit the clubs and party none stop to House Music, and Club Music. Nothing Like it. I am a Former mobile DJ from NYC myself and always had a special feeling in my heart and mind and HANDS when it came to mixing House Music. And I still Do. HOUSE MUSIC FOR EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Cliff Brown Yeah bro, this is a lot better than most of the music we hear today. What do you think about the modern nowadays House music? Do you still think it's any good? I'm curious!
What's up .. yes I like it too, but at the clubs they just do not play real house no more.. I still mix it new and old, will always like house music, it's in my bones.
sunshine74012 , what's up , you can find good old school and new school real club music at clubs in Chicago and Baltimore, Maryland. House music forever I'm out.. I think I'm going to mix some house tonight after work..
Frankie Knuckles is the House music equivalent of what DJ Kool Herc or Afrika Bambatta is to Hip-Hop - one of the founding fathers who defined and helped build this genre!! RIP DJ Frankie Knuckles
Amazing. Four-On-tha-Floor non-stop. How can anybody say anything bad about this set/crowd/dancers/vibe!? Everybody dancing was smooth, happy, grooving with the beat, having fun, Frankie was happy....just beautiful. Wish I was there. Reminds me of midwest chicago house parties in the early 90s. Thanks for sharing, and thank you Frankie for creating, pushing, sharing, and all the countless things you did for House music. You left your mark on so many people, helped open minds, and changed lives. Thank You.
I wish I was here, we booked him for our festival a few years ago, untill we got the horrible news of his passing. Nobody could have replaced him and we left the spot open.
This dude solidifies an opinion I have always held yet not quite understood. Why is Daft Punk so awesome? Because they used the best aspects of disco(specifically obscure french disco and american funk) and then innovated a genre forever. Interstella5555(the 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem) is still one of my favorite audio visual moments of all time. And this dude was apparently one of the OG's for the sound. Frankie Knuckles. Better than disco. Do you realize how hard it is to create or mix music like this without it sounding corny? Go try.
Now with that COVID thing, we can not go into Clubs and enjoy ourselves anymore and dance the night away like we used to. And, it is going to be like this for some years. Thank God for RU-vid and Home Theater System, we can blast them as loud as we want in our apartment and sweat like there is no tomorrow. Stay safe everyone. LOVE you all and play those House Music to stay great and sane and safe!!!
Greatest House DJ ever - Rest in Peace. You've giving me so much Pleasure,I hope I see you there, still DJing.Bye,Frankie!Still turning the best House Vinyls ever spinning.See ya.....Der Marlon.....
Magic Man. I love that he always kept it true to his origins in disco/soul/funk. Getting harder and harder to find anyone spinning disco house/funky house/Chicago house (at least out here in Cali)...seems like it's all dubsetp and garbage "EDM" these days. Long live the Godfather.
I love this video! It always make me happy spunky and head bob and dance in my chair. I love all of the dancers! How lucky they must have been to see a legend and have been at such a great performance
What a surprise! One of the few videos where people actually dance! And you know why? It's cause Frankie Knuckles is the best! A legend! Of course everybody would be dancing to him. Either that or the crowd is different from the usual ecstasy-filled teenage audience the DJ sets usually have.
Yes! Because these are true Soul People who understand the importance of this wonderful human being and his contribution to a whole new culture. It's wonderful to see people celebrate Frankie Knuckles, one of the founding fathers of House. People of all ages belong in this scene. With the sheer amount of technology and communications we have there is no excuse for teenagers not to be a part of this revolution. House is eternal, and these people know it.
Frankie Knuckles shows he is a thoughtful house music deejay as well as being one of the great legends of house music, a wonderful genre for creating warm vibes
This!!! When I was a kid this is what I would stay up late at night in Philly when my parents were asleep to tape record off of our radio station. House Head For Life!!!💃💃💃💃💃
You know what, people tend to post in every video "This is the best boiler room set". No, this totally is the one, and I've seen a whole fucking lot of them, not because of anything in particular but the event as a total experience. I can bet the people had a blast there.
that's what it's all about with house....having fun....don't matter if you look dumb or not as long as you are having a good time....we'll miss you Frankie....God needed a DJ for his events so he took Frankie. :) but we'll still miss the guy.
No smoke machine no big build ups pricking about with nobs fucking cake on people mr knuckles was a dj ,one of the greatest I cry when I see the tools today and the money they get rip Frankie
Nothing wrong with an occasional effect or two(it can create a unique experience), but these days it's just in overdrive with the effects. Mixing has taken a backseat. It's kinda sad.
