I recorded this video & without watching it all the way through, I can't remember what book is being mentioned, but here are several to look in to. Univair sells the complete maintenance manual, owners manual & parts manual. All great resources for information. You really shouldn't work on a Franklin without the maintenance manual. There are several procedures & tolerances that are specific to Frankilns. Nothing difficult or tricky, just things to be aware of that need to be adhered to. John Swick has written multiple books on the Stinson aircraft & history of them. If you google him, you'll find info. He did presentations at the Stinson Summit in Beaumont, KS the last 2 years & is a tremendous resource.

Any Franklin engine mechanics available in the York, Harrisburg, Hershey, PA area? This was an interesting presentation.

Sorry for the late reply. www.stinsonowners.org has a section listing people able to help out. Any competent A&P mechanic can work on a Franklin, as long as they have the service manual & follow the directions.

@@randy1701 Thank you for the advice! I'm located in Syracuse, NY and looking for the same thing. I'm in the process of joining the Club, but experiencing some technical difficulties :-). My maternal Grandpa actually worked for Franklin many, many years ago :-)

Looking into purchasing a 108. These videos have been informative. If you're generally running on non-leaded fuel out of your own field, are there any suggestions on keeping the lead buildup to a minimum when you're making cross countries and have to use 100LL?

There’s 2 additives that can be used to scavenge lead for use in our engines, Decalin Runup & Alcor TCP. Both are essentially the same, but Alcor is the only one legal to use. The trick is that it carries a hazmat designation so you can’t take it in the plane. Decalin has not went through a certification process, so it’s technically illegal to use, but it does not have the hazmat designation, so you can carry it. It’s a Catch22 situation!

Depends on what parts your looking for. Susan at the Franklin Engine Company in Jewett, TX can help with engine parts. A man named Earl Allen in California has multiple aircraft he has salvaged. You can find him listed on barnstormers.com

Several places have parts available depending on what you need. Susan Prall of Franklin Aircraft Engines in Texas has a huge resource of engine parts. Earl Allen in California has multiple airframes that pieces can be pulled from. Univair sells quite a few airframe parts as well
