He is one of the best living pianists, I think. This is really wonderful, never saw him playing live before, don't know why. Although I'm here in Germany, I even missed it on TV. Thank you for very much for this.

The Schubert/Liszt Ave Maria is a very fascinating piece. Such a huge contrast between the lyrical and deeply touching musical message and the immense physical struggle of playing the actual notes, jumping all over the keyboard and creating the 3-hand effect. It has to really seem effortless.

This pianist is very dear to me. Many are as virtuose or even more so but Cyprien is also giving the impression of being kind, modest and even functioning normaly in a social sense! Ok, he's not at the 'top', but he comes down to the level of us mortal souls to share his passion and the way he does this is absolutely phenomenal!

Oh he is amongst the connaisseurs. Don't forget also that most people's attention span doesn't allow them to listen to songs that last more than 2min30 with more than 3 notes in the melody.

Sure, the trout becomes "visible" in the mind of the listener. I did not know Cyprien also speaks German. Wow. Playable Liszt? For me only partially. But his Schubert transcriptions are something fascinating. (I also think of the Erlkönig with these mind blowing fast octaves.) Cyprien embodies kindness with skill. Thank you.

Wow I had no idea the maestro spoke German too, I wish I knew what he was saying. This is unreal, the technique, the skill… one of the best Liszt players alive!
@FirstGentleman1
@FirstGentleman1 2 года назад
The first thing he said was something like: When in 1985 Bach and Händel celebrated their 300th birthday, everyone in the world cheered. In 1986, would you have guessed it, Liszt had his 175th birthday, dead for 100 years by then and everyone, magazines, tv, radio, no comparison to the Bach Händel anniversary.

FirstGentleman1 Ahhhh yes he would like more respect to liszt, it makes sense since Liszt is in his piano ancestry! Any other important things he might have said too you could be kind to translate?
@FirstGentleman1
@FirstGentleman1 2 года назад
@@marshan1226 And he continues: "Kulturkirmes findet eben nicht im Abonennment statt" (No idea how to translate that). Well, with Liszt we have the extraordinary case of an artistically talent, a talent that manifests itself in the most beautiful way on the pianoforte. This is the very reason why I, as a pianist, try to make a case for Liszt (or show people what a genius he is) As an ambassador for all pianists, we have received so many gifts from him, but Liszt also enjoyes to torture us. Practising like insane, to make impossible things to play on the piano actually playable/possible. From the perspective of a Pianist, I'd like to show four aspects of the all-round musician Liszt. It might be helpful to understand what this composer of the late romantic period is capable of, helping him, just like he helped so many musicians all of his life without ever asking for anything in return. (Then he talks about the "Promoter" meaning all the transcriptions he had done, for example of Schubert Songs) You certainly have recognized Schuberts Forelle, but this time without the singer. Everything is played on the pianoforte. (And the master starts playing) To be continued...
@FirstGentleman1
@FirstGentleman1 2 года назад
@@marshan1226 We are here 6:00 We can't give Liszt enough credit for what he has done for the music of the 19th century by transcribing Songs, Symphonies, Operas etc. (meaning music played and performed by many people) on a single instrument, the piano. This achivement was very important for the concerto-life of the late romantic period. But it was only possible by pushing the virtuosic possibilities of the piano further and further. This leads me to the second aspect of the phenomenon Liszt, he pushed virtuosity, virtuosic playing, to its absolute limits. The listener got the impression, that 3 or even 4 hands were playing on the keyboard. (And he gives an example) .The term "Piano Total" was invented in those days but not by Liszt, it was Sigismond Thalberg, his great rival in Paris, who came up with the expression. Liszt however mastered this technique, like for example in Schubert's Ave Maria, without turning this composition into something that was too far away from the original. (And Katsaris starts playing the Ave Maria) To be continuted...

I'm not too much of a fan of Katsaris in general, but he really is a master of Liszt transcriptions (and the more complicated the transcription, the more brightly he shines) particularly when it comes to voicing. That rendition of the Eroica Finale was superb.
