Franz Liszt: 'Tarantella' - Alexander Gavrylyuk (serie Meesterpianisten) 

The more I see this guy the more convinced I am that he is one of the most outstanding artists on the planet!!

Is there a better live recording of this work out there? Even for studio recordings I can only think of a couple that are as good as (or come close to) this. There is so much passion in Gavrylyuk's playing throughout, the soft, slow, tranquil dolcissimo passages are just as impressive and captivating as the F5 tornado mayhem in the intro and finale. I say mayhem, but it is clear he has it under control. At once controlled and unbridled, such a unique performance from a fantastic talent. We are lucky to witness such genious playing. Thank you to meesterpianisten for the upload and to messires Liszt and Gavrylyuk for the music!

Alex is so vibrant and with feeling.At 88 yrs I have enjoyed playing Schubert/Liszt song arrangements this tarantella embraces so much of my piano life-here we go! Fillergree pages will take time,tight timing interferes with accuracy.So much to do here.I take the score up to bed it sends me off to sleep smiling ! zz

Oh gosh, that was electrifying!! So much energy!

Well, he must have been pretty pleased with that performance. Beyond the fingers, more variety and color than you're likely to hear anywhere else. It's so rare to hear anyone carry their level of musicality up to that of their technique. It usually evaporates with the last few notches on the metronome.
