I love it when Martin is like "You need something simple, something that you can whistle. I tried whistling that thing you wrote and I got light headed!"
@HaldirTheBestElf FYI people can be lovable/loved even when they aren't perfect; the fact that you love them and your human ability to see their flaws aren't mutually exclusive. Frasier is awesome and hilarious, and he is also a 'pretentious fop' by Niles' definition (and the same goes for Niles himself) and I think that every Frasier fan would agree on that. In this specific show those flaws are a big part of why they are funny and also adorable. Even in the context of the act....in most comedic scenes in 'Frasier' we see the timeless routine of the straight man and the funny man. Frasier or Niles (or both) are usually the funny one and are put in contrast with the straight man, often played by Martin, who is sitting there with a WTF face. He is confused and often annoyed but he does love them even if he doesn't appreciate their delusion of grandeur and their aristocrat-wanna-be nonsense. Long story short, yes he is loved, also by me, you misread my intentions in my comment. I wrote that comment with a smile on my face.
Brilliant! When I first watched this episode and Frasier said "if less is more, just imagine how more more will be", I thought 'just how Queen used to think in their recording studios'.
One of the GREATEST Frasier scenes of all time! Also one of the greatest tv moments period! What's so great about Frasier and why he's lasted 20 years and still going on in reruns today is that he's a character that's so hilariously pompous but not a true snob, a tad prideful and boastful but not arrogant, egotistical at times but always means well and genuinely cares about people, especially his family and friends. Kelsey deserved every emmy he won for this brilliant and layered character!
Holy toledo - i thought of Gilbert and Sullivan right off! yup! whoever composed and arranged the music, and whoever wrote the libretto for this one, each is a genius!! 😸🌷🌱
This has to be one of the most epic theme songs ever. I love Niles's delivery; he reminds me of Orson Welles's narration in the old The Shadow radio dramas.
To be fair, if I was station manager, I would have approved this right off the cuff. It probably would have been a tad expensive but the tune does have a lasting effect! Frasier was definitely on to something here!
Historical moment in sitcom history , what a golden scene , and just watch frasier conducting during the line "there's no need for shame , you can use a false name " . You see his pride over the roof what a brillant performance haha
now here is the man, to explain, the tortured terrain of your brain, the man who feels everyone's pain...doctor crane...doctor crane...FRASIER CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAANE!
"Niles you were wonderful." "Thank you the trombone frightened me" Got to love Frasier. They don't do shows like this anymore. Most shows now a days insult the intelligence. Frasier rocks.
Who dares enter the dark labyrinth of the human mind? *bowed waterphone* What festering secrets are buried in the recesses of the subconscious? *superball mallet on gong* Lurid images *flexatone* Lewd desires *slide whistle* Guilty pleasures *timpani pedal glissando Strange compulsion *bass trombone slide*
The whole catalog of human behavior from the abarynth (sp?) to the monstrous lurks behind a locked door to which one man holds the key! *gong is struck*
Frasier: “I’ve had such trouble contacting her recently” Niles: “Oh, I assumed one simply painted a pentagram on the floor and chanted “I summon thee” three times.
This is one of the Fraiser episodes that really stuck in my head when I was younger cause this was the first ever episode I had watched ever with my dad and from there on, I was hooked. What a classic!
freddy feldman hey, you should come to england, channel 4 tv(one of the five main national broadcast stations) has been showing 2 /3 episodes every weekday morning around 9, 10am continuously for at least 10 years and when they reach the final episode they simply start again-its pure heaven! i never get tired of it and im obviously not alone or they would have stopped long ago as a commercial station-long may it continue!
LOVE this scene! What makes it even that much more hilarious is the scene leading into this when he was collaborating with Niles around the piano and Frasier says to the effect “I don’t know Niles…it’s just missing something…” [Next scene: *an ENTIRE Orchestral Ensemble*] lol Just perfect, so smartly written as is this entire show.
Oh! I finally figured what the beginning of this song sounds like! Candide's overture! And Candide happens to be Frasier's favorite musical which he revealed in an airport to that woman whose fav musical was Cats!. I am such a Frasier groupie.
Wow I loved this scene. Frasier's exhausted accomplishment done, he collapses into the chair utterly content with himself. Leon getting a role in the band that made him feel proud to participate is wholesome. Roz ignoring how ridiculously overly complex the tune is to support her boyfriend is pure. Niles glowing in the pride of having helped his big brother. Daphne actually surprised of how far off base Frasier has taken things even though she shouldn't be. Kenny staring forward into an actual state of understanding how insane Frasier is. Marty's crossed armed, slightly disappointed understanding and lack of surprise at the length Frasier has mis-shaped the purpose of this project.
There are so many absolutely amazing lines in this who scene, a couple missed out. The delivery on "With a subtle bow of thanks to the muse Calliope..." and "Like Gilbert and Sullivan, only frightening"
Why would anyone dislike this? Thank you for so many laughters, Kelsey and David... And for many thoughts too. I have all the seasons on DVD and I watch 'Frasier' almost daily. Your fan all the way from Syria.
and stil they went with his Dads version...; "If you've got a problem, if you're feeling low, looking for some answers, things you need to know. All you've got to do is ask. All you've got to do is ask."
no288 personally, I love both of them. The one they went with sounds like a proper jingle, but this one was just so over-the-top, that I absolutely loved it. Could you imagine if Frasier's radio show was an actual thing and they decided to go with this one?
Actually that was Frasier's second attempt at a jingle. His dad's one was... "What's new? I'm listening, Feeling blue? I'm listening, Feeling bad, feeling sad, feeling mad, feeling glad, I'm listening."
Frasier is sooo EXTRA for this!!! I love it!!! I laughed so hard when I first saw this! 😂😂😂 And Niles backs him up which makes me love them both the more! 😂❤😂❤
I remember watching this the night it aired, especially the excitement when the string section started up(0:10) and made us realize how epic the song was going to be. Frasier mouthing the Freud quote in German with pure joy and satisfaction is one of the funniest and most endearing moments of the whole series.
This episode and the one where Niles and Frasier buy a restaurant and everything goes wrong are my two favorites--out of weekly episodes--all which were platinum.
I was buzzin when i found this: my fave scene from my fave episode...ive watched the rpts on ch4 every day for ages waiting for this one and they finally showed it last week!! Go Dr.Crane...hehe,its only sposed to be a 30 second jingle!
I don't remember the first time I saw this...because I was on the ground laughing. Fraiser is such a genius show, I still watch it all the time on Lifetime.
The best bit is when Daphne and Roz give each other a look and chuckle XD I feel like that part was just them reacting as regular people and not in character :)
Frasier always did remind me of myself: We're both egocentric to the core, but we still mean well (at least I'd like to believe I do, I know Frasier does). I'll be needing a song like this now for myself, only about politics instead of psychiatry. Glorious fanfare in such a glorious show.
+Maria L I think also when it came down to it he always tried to do what was morally right. If he felt something was wrong that normally trumped everything else
