I remember watching this episode with my dad in the 90s. He never laughed so hard. My dad passed away a few years ago, and every now and then I watch this and laugh with him again.
I have the same memories about my dad. Every time I watch "Frasier", I think about him cracking up till he could hardly breathe. He especially loved the episode when The Cranes pretended to be Jewish. "JESUS!....Get out of that coat." 😄😄😄 Maybe our dads are watching "Frasier" together in Heaven right now.❤💙
I love how Roz says "until the day I get married" with a sweet smile that effortlessly translates it to "until hell freezes over". Even the subtle tones on the show are hilarious.
I am 67, and I had to say Fraser is my all-time favorite comedian. And he and Niles are my all-time favorite team. Nobody has ever made me laugh more! They are my medicine!
The shot of him turning away and desperately wiping his brow with that fixed grin of desperation, and then the attempt to paper over it with the "everybody!" flourish as he turns back to the camera...this is exquisitely constructed comedy.
"East is East. West is West, and the wrong one I have chose." How appropriate that that's one of the few lines Frasier gets right in the song, since it's what he is definitely thinking as he starts singing.
My bones denounce, the fearful trounce and la-la la-la Moldic rose! Ba-da Seuss, a palm caboose and a panda hop and pantyhose You look buppity, buttons and bowwwws!
Comedic genius. Image the rehearsing it took to totally screw up the song and it was very convincing. I revisit this episode every few months and it still causes me to laugh so hard.
I have watch this many many times and I laugh harder each time. It is a classic and absolute genius. I only wish I could have been at the reversal. The looks on people's faces are hysterical. Love, love this show and this scene.
He made it look so effortless! It's one of the heartiest empathetic laughs I've ever had! This entire episode belongs in a Comedy Master Class Time Capsule!
The part were Martin and Daphne. Are watching him mess up and laughing is as funny as seeing and hearing him forget the lyrics on live TV. Seeing Eddy run off with the remote control is also hilarious.
In case anyone's looking for the lyrics here you go. East is east and west is west and the wrong one I have chose Let's go where you'll keep on wearin' those da da das baba doze Things and Buttons and Buttons and Bows Don't marry me where the lovely pee ah something la la la Let's all go to a taco show and a how a such an impressive blow my nose You look great in buttons and bows I love you in buckskin la di da da da di daaah And ah enalaaah da dala ahhalal la laaaaaaahhh Everybody! My bones denounce the fearful trounce and the lalala mole that grows Fada Seuss a palm capoose and uh hen a ha and pantyhose You look Boppity Buttons and Booooowwwws
"...either I can play really loud or jab you with a pin because between you and me you're not hittin' this note without a pole vault." My favourite line lol.
My 5 favourite songs. She’s such a groovy lady Tossed salads and scrambled eggs Buttons & bows Great balls of fire Oh some boys go to college but we think there all woosies, they get all the knowledge and we get all the
I'm literally crying with laughter, and yet I can't stop hitting the "replay" button. Will this ever NOT be hilarious? And how can one pompous snob be so damned lovable?
... because after all is said and done with the pompousness and snobbery, deep down under it all, Friasier Crane is really just a regular guy like us, with good intentions... ...this just makes the fall from his high-brow (when he gets too full of himself) even funnier when he falls short of these grand attempts; we can relate to him when his goal ends up short of expectations... ... everyone has had some sort of goal or project that, despite our best efforts, falls short of expectations... ...and so we can relate...
EVERYBODY! "East is East, and West is West, and the wrong one I have chose. Let's go where you'll keep on wearin' those da da daas, bo-ba doze, things and buttons.. buttons and bows. Don't bury me, where the fluffy pea, er - something, la la laaa. Let's all go to a taco show, and, er, how...suchin' and frontsin', warm mine ohs, you'll look ri- buttons and bows. I love you in bucksin, la-da-da-da-da-da-daaa. And, na-na-naaa, dat-dat na naaaaa. My bones denounce the fearful trounce and la la la mo' le grouze. Va la souze, upon capoose, an' I'll pant, I'll hop and panythose, you'll look bubbly, buttons and bows!"
I watched an interview recently when Kelsey Grammar said he loved to improvise during filming. He is, quite simply, a brilliant comedian. Everyone on this classic show shines.
It’s the way he moves his arms and hips during “vada Seuss, a palm capoose “ that makes it art. That one moment pushes me over the edge every time. Maybe the best scene in the history of network comedy. The whole episode just builds to this last scene. Everything from the piano guy to the PBS line, to the brilliant performance here. Absolutely perfect. A PALM CAPOOSE.
This NEVER fails to bust me up... literally tearing up from laughing... and I love all the comments... I'd only be retyping what you've already typed... EVERBODY! ... let's all go to a taco show.... I cannot stop laughing...
"I've been going over your music and when we get to this section here either I can play really loud or jab you with a pin because, between you and me, you're not hitting this note without a pole vault." That's the best part of this clip. LOL
Camille, his now ex wife, absolutely LOVED this scene. She told Kelsey that she'd never laughed so hard in her life. So, when they were planning their wedding, he told Camille that she could have whatever wedding she wanted, but he was planning a special song for her to walk down the aisle to, sung by a choir, and to not ask questions. He hired like a 50 person choir that was set up next to the guests of their gorgeous, and expensive, wedding. As she started down the aisle, I'm sure she was expecting a sappy, romantic, song, but the choir busted out this version of Buttons and Bows. Camille almost couldn't walk down the aisle she was laughing so hard! A long time ago, I heard that when they divorced, Kelsey had this episode taken out of circulation, but I'm not sure if that's true. He supposedly did it out of bad feelings, not sweet rememberances.
Hello from leap day 2024. I had to come here to watch this on this fine February 29. I forgot about this episode until I saw it streaming on Pluto a week ago, so it's still getting streamed. And I'm still laughing my something-something off 🤣 See you all back here in 4 years!
This could not have been a funnier bit. Each time I see it I laugh-not just a chuckle here and there-but sidesplitting guffaws. And the coda with Frasiet’s father and Daphne replicating the “something and something” lyrics and hand gestures is icing on the cake. This is time capsule material, and a scene like many others that keeps me watching “Frasier” to this day.
My mum and I were in tears and could hardly breathe with laughing when this was first shown. My absolute favourite Frasier clip ever! Thank you for uploading - wonderful memories for me xx
@@kendallrivers1119 Actually he surprisingly didn’t win for this particular season! John Lithgow won for 3rd Rock from the Sun that year, either would be worthy winners though 😊
I think this scene would have been better without a laugh track, as there's no punch line. It just builds on itself. Plus, it would be more excruciating.
@@cockoffgewgle4993 The definition of 'laugh track' is a recorded tape of audience laughter that's subsequently added to the audio of a sitcom that _doesn't have an audience._ You can't have a 'laugh track' on a sitcom with an audience. You just have audience laughter. So it's not "the same thing".
🎶 A Western ranch is just a branch of Nowhere Junction to me. Gimme the city where living's pretty and the gals wear finery. East is east and West is west and the wrong one I have chose. Let's go where you keep on wearing those frills and flowers and buttons and bows, rings and things and buttons and bows. Don't bury me in this Prairie, take me where the cement grows. Let's move down to some big town where they love a gal by the cut of her clothes and you'll stand out in buttons and bows. I love you in buckskin or skirts that you've homespun, but I love you longer, stronger where your friends don't tote a gun. My bones denounce the Buckboard bounce and the cactus hurts my toes, let's vamoose to where gals keeps using those silks and satins and linens and shows and you're all mine in buttons and bows. Gimme Eastern trimmin' where women are women in high silk hose and peekaboo clothes and French perfume that rocks the room and you're all mine.... Bows. Buttons and bows. Buttons and Bows🎶
@@RobertPagano226 I don't think that would have worked since her character wasn't a snobby radio psychiatrist who was always looking to impress high society. Frasier was a lovable but pretentious person, and here he got caught revealing his unpolished true self. Grammer played this scene magnificently, especially the song. 🤣🤣🤣
@@Squee_Dow Ok, honestly, I never really watched Frasier, so thanks for your input. If you want to laugh, I only sent it to my sister because she was always a fan of the song "Buttons and "Bows"
@@RobertPagano226 You should watch it. It's a sophisticated comedy with really good writers and really good plot lines. Plus, they have the perfect actors playing the roles. Unfortunately, there is a certain amount of immorality written into the script, which doesn't sit well with me, but I realize I'm in the minority. You'll get no argument from me regarding the genius of the comedy of Lucille Ball. She's in an elite group of comedic actors that will always reign as the very best of the best.
oh my fucking god. This alone is hilarious, but the build up and pay off to this moment was just... legendary. I don't think I've laughed so hard at anything in my life
Whether or not you’re still at that job, there IS something soothing about Frasier in the wee hours. I only hope my expressive channel possesses power like that.
The entire episode built up to that moment. We had the theme of each character taking risks which didn't pay off, and we were led to believe that Frasier had taken the option which would avoid humiliation and disaster. The humour comes from the rug being totally swept out from under us, it's far more embarrassing for him than if he'd stuck to his Aria plans. Genius. They don't write them like this any more
On the version Daphne and Martin are listening to, Frasier sings "lets all go to a... frop and fro". Maybe they just did like 5 takes and didnt know which one the show would keep.
It’s almost impossible to choose a funniest moment in a show that’s loaded with comedy gold, but for me it’s a toss up between this one, and Daphne clubbing an eel to death right before Roz is immolated by a dish of cherries jubilee.
OMG!!!!!! This scene had me doubling over with laughter so much that my ribs hurt, but in a good way. I wonder how many ratings PBS got when Frasier sang his hilarious parody version of "Buttons and Bows"! Best script writing ever!
LOL!!!!!! I actually gripped the corners of my desk to keep from falling off my chair when Frasier started singing "Buttons and Bows"!!!!!! It takes a real man to stand in front of an audience and improvise hilarious song lyrics during his performance on live television!!!!
I absolutely adore the fact that at first, he's clearly trying to make things up on the fly while struggling, but as it goes further and further, he just gains more and more confidence until he's singing nonsense without any second thought.
I swear everytime I am having a bad day, all I have to do is watch this clip & it makes me laugh so hard I feel a little bit better!! It is true what they say "Laughter is the best medicine" 😂😂
Best written and acted sitcom ever to grace our TV screens, I still cry laughing watching this but my all time favorite episode is "Matchmaker" when Frasier try's to set Daphne up with the new Station manager but he's gay and assumes Frasier is also gay and thinks he's on a date with Frasier in his apartment, now that episode is IMHO the best Frasier episode ever:-)))))))))
I think the first three seasons are the best ones...the writing remained excellent throughout, but from season four onwards Frasier, Kelsey Grammar's performance, got a bit too 'big' if you know what I mean. Too much mugging, and exaggerating the character's traits. What made Frasier funny as a character was that he was suave and collected, and was occasionally brought low by his own hubris. But later in the show he just turned into a gurning, mugging idiot and lost a lot of the subtlety. ...Also, the tension between Niles and Daphne disappeared, which was a bit of a shame.
I agree with capt picard with the "Matchmaker" being the funniest one but this ranks right up there with that along with "The Ski Lodge" from season 5, I believe. But Frasier overall is one of the funniest shows ever. And I'd LOVE to go to a taco show!!!
