So If this shop replaces major body panels from rust or collision The car is still considered restored. but if another shop replaces the rear 75% of the body and still retains the proper VIN #'s It's considered as a fake or a tribute ? Where exactly do you draw the line ? At what point does major body panel replacement become building a fake car When the proper ID is intact ?
@jaydunbar7538

The line is drawn between “I did it” and “a competitor did it”.

I would think you need to have more than 5% of the original car to use an original Vin number.
@brianbarney1885
@brianbarney1885 Год назад
Probably if you have the VIN tag, it’s all you need since it seems better-than-OEM panels are available for the body.
@jimbetts5164
@jimbetts5164 Год назад
@@brianbarney1885 You need the VIN tag and than the key areas that have stampings that have the same numbers as the vin. If you have the assembly build tags those are not always with a car. If you have numbers matching car starting in the late 60's you will find the serial/sequence numbers will be on the engine and transmission as well and they will be the last 6 digits of the vin. Those numbers will not prove the car is origional and not fake if they all match. If they don't match than it proves it is not all original.
@gypsy6211
@gypsy6211 Год назад
Don't need even 5%. All you need is structure of some sort that's original. Just gotta prove the part is original to the car. Mark has receipts, pictures before and after the dip, a license and reputation the DMV would take as good.

Ever have something remind you of someone who is no longer with you and the memory is so powerful and meaningful that you have tears running down your face and your nose is stopped up so fast that it's almost like being sucker punched? When Dougie pulled out that museum piece key holder and I actually saw it and realized what it was, I was INSTANTLY taken back to 1975 and my Grandmother's white 1966 Fairlane. She used to keep her car keys in one of those. I haven't seen one in 35-40 years. It's amazing how memories from so long ago can be so vivid and clear.

I remember during the gas crisis in the 70's there were lines around the block. You couldn't give a muscle car away. It has to be frustrating to think of all the muscle cars that could have easily been restored got crushed instead because no one wanted them. Because they were basically worthless minor damage was considered a total. My friend sold his '67 GTO for $60. to the wrecker and when the guy saw the car (pretty well stripped, not wrecked) he wanted his money back.

At what point does a build like this go from being a restoration to building a replica out of aftermarket spare parts. Unless the vehicle contains at least 51% of its genuine original parts it not a restoration.
@jimbetts5164
@jimbetts5164 Год назад
Do you watch any other shows, like 2 guys garage or all girls garage. If you did you might see shows sponsored by Hotshots and Lokar. Those shows are exactly what you say. Commercials posing as a show. This is not that at all. Its become more about Mark and the interactions with his staff , than about restoring cars. On builds like this its way more than a restoration and more of a type of remanufacturing a car, when their is so little of a car thats left.. with so much scripted shows claiming they are reality , this one is as real as it gets this is a real shop doing real work for real people. Except the production crew following them around with video cameras and boom mikes all day. That's normal right???

I guess my only question would be if this car is considered restored or NOS manufactured car???? All of these Mopar muscle cars I looked at them in amazement, Cuda's, Road Runners, GTX's, and Challenger's. My friend painted cars in their body shop. Yer show is very accurate and entertaining. Call me skeptical but building an old car out of new parts except the roof and affixing body tags and numbered parts; Isn't that a fake car? No matter the craftsmanship it is still not original. It is made with new parts from a mopar unaffiliated aftermarket parts company. Why would anyone pay what you know is a small fortune for a previously useless parts car that if sold will not be worth what they have put in to it? Not to mention if the buyer saw this episode and realized it is not an original car. Why not save the money and wait for an original to come along as rare as that may be? Other than that great teachers and knowledge. Alyssa is beautiful as usual.

At 40:46 ...nope, the Barracuda didn't have front disc brakes until 72 as an option. The aftermarket K-member kits were to address the factory weak K-members...Both the front drums and the flimsy front ends made themselves obvious when the AAR Cudas tried to race in the TransAm series alongside the Mustangs and the Camaros...the Cudas didn't win anything. Anyone hard driving a vintage 440 Cuda is going to be met with some tweaked front-ends...the structural shortcomings , the heavy engines & hard driving tends to bend things....common knowledge...but I guess not to this guy.
@randylear8264
@randylear8264 Год назад
They did not win a race in Trans-Am mostly because they had five weeks to prepare two cars to compete as AAR. Dodge had two. Mustang and Camaro had been racing in Trans-Am for many years. The Cuda did win pole position in two of the races. Shows it had the power and handling in the short run. More years under its belt would of beefed up those parts and made it more enduring. But Plymouth pulled out after one year. And Swede Savage did pull off some 3rds and 4ths during the season. Challengers faired better. They are basically the same cars. And on the street the AAR and TA Challengers easily held their own. Even against big block GM and FOMOCo. cars. And today when it comes to value. They auction at high prices. Looks are timeless. Other than the Trans-Am Firebirds you don’t see Trans-Am specific Mustangs or Camaros going to auction. Mind you have to get a Z28 or GT350 to get to the same level. And Mopars are fewer so more dollars go their way.

Cars like washers and dryers. Refrigerators and dish washers are designed with a certain shelf life. They want to sell more. That durability is set low on purpose. Many years ago 60s and 70s they built appliances and cars to last. Technology was years away from higher tech fluids for engines and transmissions. Better fuels that can clean deposits and burn clean. Compression came up with the quality of octane. Fuel injection keeps air fuel ratio really close. Also overdrive transmissions with computers puts the rpm optimal. So we get what they dictate we get. Not exactly what we want.
