Fred Boswell Jr. from Avondale, AZ (originally from Milwaukee, WI) - check out his performance from our 28th Annual Drum-Off Finals that took place on January 14, 2017 at The Novo in Los Angeles. Fred played on a 5-piece Tama Star Walnut kit in Atomic Orange with Evans EC2 on the toms, and their EMAD on the kick, (Fred used his own snare) along with Meinl Byzance cymbals: 14" hats, 16" crash, 18" crash, 20" ride, 10" splash, and an 18" china. Blast block, cowbell, and tambourine are from Latin Percussion.

You gotta think about how smoothly Pacpaco's solo was compared to the others. His transitions were, in my opinion, above any of the other contestants. That's one of the main things these judges look for.

My guy. You always kill it Fred. Seen him live several times and he is a monster on stage. Not human. A true showman. He can play keys and sing too. I always tell him he is a machine and not human. He is so humble and down to earth. He laughs and says thanks AJ. I'm just using what God gave me. Congrats. thought you won for sure and not because I know you. Skills and passion.

This guy should have been the winner, no question about it! Interesting drumming, exceptional technique with identity, musicality and showmanship with explosive energy, brings my thoughts back to Buddy. Fred Boswell Jr. is a name I will keep in mind.

Fred, like all of the contestants, is a great player but the video doesn't do it justice. We were there and it was much better in person. Our only issue with "drum offs" and other competitions is we wish we could see their playing in a full band setting that would include a solo segment.

How the hell do you give the win to someone that Plagiarizes a former winner of this competition and yet even the plagiarized parts plus his own parts are still worst than Fred Boswell and Anthony Burns? This is some bullsh*t... The judges are idiots and this competition has lost its credibility.

can any of you drummers out there see the difference in this drummer? any? ok i will give you a minute... any takers?..... hhmm alright i will tell you. continuity of an idea. he would build something up and let it peak and trough where it should, whilst displaying chops and multi patterns... everyone else is cutting and pasting everywhere without continuity and so drumming loses its ancient healing quality - which is trance. fred here is following the heart beat.

Saw this cat 'cause of Matt Garstka, Dude has some serious skills, crazy that he's not more famous(maybe he is?) Would like to see more of him, but coverage of him is limited(He's probs humble AF) Anywho, fantastic playing on his part. And thanks for sharing this brilliance.
