Fred Penner On George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight: INTERVIEW 

I can never thank this man enough for the joy he brought my children - mostly my youngest - Matthew who passed away Dec 30 1988. The last time I saw my son alive he was watching Fred's show....his favourite. Last year May 31, 2014 - at Vancouver's Children festival , Fred stopped his show, said there was something he had to do and went into the audience to where my oldest son Peter was holding his almost 5 month old son, Liam,in the fifth row and asked to hold him - held him up for the audience to see and then sang to our little Liam. Such an amazing man. Thank you Fred.

I loved Fred Penners Place when I was a kid. My childhood revolved around : Fred Penners Place , Mr. Dressup , Under the Umbrella Tree & Sesame Street.

Wow, everyone who followed his shows knows how epic it would be to ever attend his performance live! Pure respect to Fred Penner!

As an Australian who had 2 children in Canada, I had never heard of Fred Penner until I moved to BC. I fell in love with his respect for children and the way he always treated our next generation with such respect and love. I have moved back to Australia. My grown up boys hope to share their love of Fred Penner with little Aussie kids of their own one day. Here we have Peter Coombe who is wonderful! I wish we weren't known for The Wiggles who are just like junk food complete with merchandise

I loved watching Fred Penner's Place, it came on Nickelodeon here in the U.S. in the late 80's. I watched him everyday.

Fred Penner is awesome! I had the pleasure of spending some time with him a few years ago and he even cooler than I had imagined he would be.

This guy who was also shown in the US as well as Canada was a child legend!!!! I used to watch him all of the time and he used to always make me melt into his show literally. He had such great quality and awesome lessons for kids. I used to always learn from him and his ideas. The way he educated children and the way he used to make them soak into his lessons and feel the energy and make it fun, but learning as well. I loved this man, he was one of the BEST child icons out there next to Mr. Rogers. :)

I love this man so so so much. So excited to see him perform with my little one this weekend.

I remember my mom taking me to see fred at the savoy theater prior to the show we went to Tim Hortons to grab a snack and who did we run in to but fred I was so excited...now with a little one of my own I plan on introducing her to freds music and fred penners place

I dislike talk shows, so..... nothing after that means anything to anyone. If you're still reading, I feel sorry for George Stroumnoulopulos because he was forced by his producers to rapidly interview and produce the best sound byte for the audience. Fred Penner was not the person to do so with. He's a good... no, he's a GREAT person. I always believe he cared about children, and he sure influenced mine. Fred, I'm sorry that George had his hands tied on his interview. George is not a bad person. I wish you had more opportunity to create the magical atmosphere kids of my generation were able to achieve. By the way, I'm 32 as of 2014, so I was older than the kids you had labeled. I still appreciated you and what you had to offer. Fred Penner's place is always in my dreams and is something of what I consider halcyon days. Thank you Fred.

Yes! My kids were raised on Fred Penner. We still sing his songs, esp. Sandwiches are Beautiful.

He is intelligent and eloquent. He understood kids from my day.

He played recently at a dive bar in my area, it was epic. We're talking burly biker dudes singing along to "Sandwiches are Beautiful"

OMG.....how I loved growing up in the 80's born in 79 I was able to get the best of TV....tv now is horrible...fred, friendly giant, raccoons, todays special, romper room, under the umbrella tree, smoggies, reading rainbow, polka dot door, mr dressup, and soo soo much more!

What an inspiring career that man has had!

My kids watched his show all the time. I believe he had the unhappy chore of replacing "The Friendly Giant" after it was cancelled.

Anyone remember that other cartoon they would play on cbc along with the video for this song? It was about a kid wanting a montreal canadians sweater but he got a maple leafs sweater instead and was all bummed about it. I wish I could remember what it was called.
