In this episode, we switch #Fredthefarmtruck to an 85 AC system. I couldn’t find all the parts for an 81 so 85 it is!

That extra connector you had may be for the old carb, if i remember right the carbs had a solenoid to increase the rpm when the ac was turned on

Aha! I do remember on my white truck Pearl, there was a solenoid on the carb and I didn’t know what it was.

hi always use compressor oil on o rings when assembling prevents tearing /leaks old orifice tube had a dirty filter ------- evaporator core needs reverse flushing with white spirit [fully evaporating ]. Highly recommend evaporator be removed and have fins cleaned . Always use rubber lined P clips to restrain hoses and pipe work to body . They prevent cracked alloy fittings/lines . Fitt h/duty clutch fan ,,, Fit electric pusher 12-13 inch 15-20amps condenser fan wired by relay to compressor feed . Charge by weight starting at 90% . U need correct charge for 100% liquid to reach evap core inlet Why more liquid the better it will cool . Also refrigerant transports oil ,if insufficient charge not enough oil returns to compressor . If high pressures are to high u have condenser cooling issues . All the above if done correctly works as a system Ask tech if u can see charge pressures 150-160psi great but uncommon 160-200psi good ,, 200--225 satisfactory 225--250 borderline Ambient during charge ?? ***test pressures at idle and at 1500rpm take note Evacuate for 2 hrs and do a vacuum degradation test then charge . Best to fit new low pressure cut in/out switches Happy days in your soon to be cool truck .................

at 26:04, you mentioned that you filled the drier with oil. Is that normal? I thought the drier was to prevent moisture in the system.

Each system calls for a specific amount of oil. Part of the oil goes in the drier to help circulate it throughout the entire system. .. I’m not a n A/C expert by any means, but I had done a ton of research before we put it all together.

LMC truck , I used an 85 liquid line and swapped the condenser to an 85 style also 32-0918 TUBE ASSY-CONDENSER OUTLET CHEVY GMC 85-87 REQUIRED QUANTITY: (1) $19.95

You needed the compressor that has the hook up at the 9 o'clock position
