I wanted them to ask Savage the reverse, how he would feel if he'd played great but lost.

He's a proper goon savage but he's right. If you've played any decent level football you'll know that even if you win and you play shit it always affects you

as much as I hate Robbie Savage, he's right about being depressed if you're performing badly in a winning team. You have to justify your place.

I get where Savage is coming from but Freddie is spot on about how he has a responsibility to set an example in the dressing room. If you’re not happy with your performance, so what? Grow the fuck up and take responsibility.

Savages mentality shows why he never made it as a top player

Rubbish, not a Savage fan as a player. Skill is why he never made it as a top player, he is Roy Keane without the top level skill.

@BigWes95
@BigWes95 5 лет назад
@@compaccount3086 absolutely no one said that it's in no way a team sport. But in most instances it's a batsman vs a bowler
@andyw9255
@andyw9255 5 лет назад
@@BigWes95 cricket is a team sport because of the psychology, strategy, and fielding. That's why someone like Mike Brearley (who was an average batsman) could transform a team's fortunes when he stepped in as captain. In terms of group psychology, look at how Michael Vaughan handled difficult personalities like Kevin Pietersen and Freddie Flintoff, while Strauss and Cook struggled. Batting is mostly an individual sport - although you need to adjust your play depending on who you're batting with, and also adjust according to the dynamics of the match... this is the difference between an individualist, stats-driven batsman like Geoff Boycott (the cricket equivalent of Ruud van Nistelrooy), and a team-oriented batsman like Steve Waugh. Bowling is massively dependent on the fielding and the dynamic between the bowlers - do you play 5 slips and go for the edge? Do you play two strike bowlers, or do you block an end with an economical bowler? Do you tempt the slog and leave a catcher out for it? Does the keeper step up to the medium pacer for the stumping? Do you try to faze the batsman with a short catcher in his eyeline? These are all team decisions that involve multiple players executing their roles effectively.

Fred Flintoff never knew what it was like to get dropped (because he was just that good). So of course he would feel happy when lesser established guys like Rob Key and Simon Jones did well. Savage is bang on right.
@nathangarrett9868
@nathangarrett9868 5 лет назад
Freddy missed the point because he was playing well but not getting wickets that’s what confused him, it would be the same if his economy was horrendous, no wickets, batted badly got no runs but England won that would be the same.

Think it always will come back, somewhat, to your personality. Some people are always self deprecating and want to prove everyone (including themselves) wrong, and others are just happy to be a part of a team and winning. My guess would be Freddie wasn’t half as annoyed EVER as Robbie was with the basic shit
