I'm going to put this out there: if you don't plan on removing and cutting an Anubias, leave it be! If it grows long enough, like for a few years or so, and the rhizome has grown considerably, it is going to be worth A LOT! So if you want to keep all of the Anubias and know you can't care for it anymore down the line, consider not cutting it so whenyou do have to sell it, you'll get more money out of it than just a cutting
@thomaspinter8456
@thomaspinter8456 10 дней назад
You'll make alot more cutting it up than selling it whole. Not many willing to pay $300+ for a basketball size of anubias but once I cut mine up theyre gone in a few days

When they have 3 or 4 nodes on the rhizome they are easy to split with a sharp fingernail or knife. I've even floated single leaves and stems and they have carried on growing and shown new shoots etc.

It's fun to grow anubias. Some may mistake them for plastic plants since they have this thick leaves, especially if they are deep green in color. The only thing though is you have to wait for a lifetime (LOL) to get many leaves. That is probably the reason why anubias are exepensive here in the Philippines.

So with regards to java fern its not necessary to propogate it using the rhizome as if you cut off the tips of the leaves and leave them floating they eventually make their own rhizome this is how Java ferns propogate in nature

Won't the leaves of the Anubias and java fern grown emerged like this, all die when grown submerged inside the tank? It would require extra care, to grow make that plant recover?
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 5 месяцев назад
Anubias will be totally fine, never had any problems when transitioning to submerged form and I did that many times already. For Java Fern - yes, situation is different and there will be transition period and some of the leaves might melt. But overall it works just fine. It's basically exactly the same process when you buy potted plants.

Can we divide, tie the plant to a cup but put it inside the fish tank and under water? Will the plant grow slower under water?
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 4 месяца назад
Yes you can do that. It might grow a bit slower, but the biggest risk is the algae forming on the leaves. This is why they are growing faster out of the water - because you can use much more light with no risk of algae.

one end of the rhizome of Anubias is growing and the other end I don't see any growth?
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube Год назад
That is correct. But Main rhizome will create side shoots that will start growin their own leaves. So it is kind of a tree structure. Bestides if you cut it in half - it will start growing like a completly new plant.

@vernstewart1132 2 месяца назад
Hi, it's Vern. I was wondering, if I have the little pots that you cut in half, is there any reason I should not just use them without cutting. I have plenty. I realize that I would need to put more water at the bottom.. Appreciate your input!!!
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 2 месяца назад
Hi Vern! Without cutting they would be to big and would require much higher containers to fit. Plants need to have space to grow and high containers require more water (like you said), they will not fit under the light etc. It's just much more practical to just cut them ;)

i don't do emersed propagation because when you grow it emersed and plant it in the tank it would die back since all the leaves are emersed grown and it would grow new ones submerged so whats the point? just cut it in smaller pieces drop it in the tank let it grow submerged leaves then use it to scape.
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube Год назад
It doesn't work like this with all plants. Anubias, Ferns, Buce etc. will not melt any leaves. And the point is that you can blast the plants with a lot of light without any problems with algae. This way you make them grow faster. THe same with many carpeting plants. Besides almost 100% of plants that you buy in pots - are grown exactly like that - out of water.

@AquascapingCube

As long as the rhizome is fine - thay can be saved. Keep them in moist place and under the light, but not under water. Like very damp container that you will frequently spray with water. In the past I was able to grow Anubias from "empty" rhizome - so this is the key. But it will take a long time - really long. It takes a lot of work, but you can try this out just as an experiment?
