Hi.. new to aquascape, very happy to find this video, it will be a money saver! 😆 My tank has light in the lid, so I can’t take advantage of it. Can I leave the container getting sun or is it really advised to use lamp?
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 2 месяца назад
Glad I could help! I would advise to use a light because sun is unpredictable and the biggest issue is the temperature. Sun can heat up the container very fast and that would kill the plants. Of course it's possible, just a bit more difficult to control.
@Cwuvirmsvgzuxkdmd
@Cwuvirmsvgzuxkdmd 3 месяца назад
Hey thanks for sharing the this idea !!! Please tell me that will natural temperate sunlight be ok for it ??
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 3 месяца назад
It depends. How warm your container will get during the day? Because sun can make it very warm, very fast. If it's under 30C it should be ok, but preferred would be something like 27 max. So if you don't let it get to hot - it will work :)

@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 23 дня назад
Yes, it should work. In general I would use as strong light as possible, but weaker light will also work. The only difference would be slower growth. Only thing to remember is to be careful about the temperature in the container, because very high temperatures will kill the plants.

Hi! Thank you! It really depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you want the have a big carpet in your tank - then you can divide the 'basket' into small portions, and spread them through your substrate. But if you want one, huge, dense piece in one place - just put it underwater and you are good to go ;) Here is how I used mine: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3aVCq-1_08c.html

@trevorbrit2300
@trevorbrit2300 4 месяца назад
Yes. I have an established 10-gallon betta tank. I followed the exact procedure as in the video. I separated the fully grown mat into "clumps" and carefully put it the aquarium and lowered it onto the existing substrate. Although there was massive root growth from this 8 week of "incubation", obviously some of the clumps started to break from the main body when it was CAREFULLY being lowered into the aquarium. No problem, those clumps settled onto the substrate surface and eventually started to spread out. I also decided to pile some substrate up against one of the outside walls of my betta's "swim through" cave., then using the same process as before, carefully lowered some of the propagated anubias onto the sloping substrate. After gently moving and smoothing out the substrate the anubias started to spread horizontally over the side wall of the betta cave and onto the top. It gives a neat effect of a half overgrown "cave" that my betta loves swimming through. You just need to be patient when placing the propagated plant onto the substrate that you pile up onto the sloping substrate that is resting against the "cave".

@AquascapingCube

Thank you! I do it more often 3 times a week on average. And it also allows fresh air to go inside. You have to observe if the plants have enough moisture, so once a week might not be enough.

Regular fresh air - this is the key. Make very small holes in the container or open it every day to keep the air circulating.

Is it normal for the newly planted plants to melt some leaves in the first few weeks or two of planting?
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 9 месяцев назад
Yes, absolutely. Most of the potted plants are grown in emersed form, and once they get into water they are "dropping" emersed leaves and grow new ones - suitable for underwater environment. It's totally normal :)

Hi, if nutritional substrate isnt available can we just water it with water that has liquid fertilizer in it? Also, can this work for java moss?
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 11 месяцев назад
Yes, and yes ;) If you don't have active substrate, you can use river sand or something similar. Then you use liquid fertilizer or even better - root tabs. With java moss - definetally yes, I did it myself and it grows like crazy.

@@AquascapingCube thanks for the response. I tried somehing similar to this with java moss but i put it in too much sunlight so it died and i wasnt sure if it was sunlight or something else that did it.

I might be high temperature. If you are using sunlight, close to the window, it might warm up the container really fast to really high temperatures.

After it's planted in your tank - yes, CO2 would help a lot. I always use monte carlo with CO2, often DIY systems are enough, like this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D3zYf8uNVxE.html

I'm a bit confused :9 you put sand (has no fertilizer), then the active charcoal which is a filter media right? It fitldrs toxic stuff out but does it add nutrients for plants? I didn't think so... if not where does your plant get it's nutrient? 😊
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 9 месяцев назад
Hi. No, this is not Activated charcoal. This is active substrate and it's very nutrient rich. 2 totally different things - but you have a point - they do look similar :)

How long are you doing this? If it doesn't spread I would trim it a bit - this should trigger the plant to start spreading.
