I’m glad to see they’re opened up again. We tried to stop there for the night in October 2019 and it was posted no overnight parking. I asked the security supervisor (as we had used it as a stopover from Henderson to Quartzsite in the past) and he informed me they had stopped the overnight use because (as he put it) to many people were making a mess and abusing the privilege. We stopped for supplies at Walmart in January of this year (2021) on our way to Yuma, either they took down the many signs that said no overnight parking or you missed them? Again security told me people were abusing the parking lot with trash and other items. Thanks for the update, I hope everyone respects these businesses.
it's not the weather that will make it crazy, it's the people who will. Seek shelter in normal places where there are normal people who act normally. (hint: CA ain't it!)
I agree, it is one of the prettiest places. The Parker Strip on the Colorado River. We've been coming for 15 years to Emerald Cove RV Resort. Great food and a Tiki Bar to quench your thurst. Watch out for the Burrows along the road especially by the dam. Beautiful drive. Thanks Russ!
I stopped to shop for soda and chips in "RICE", California in 1978. When I drove Rte 62 (going towards Rte 177 and General Patton Museum when you rejoin I-10) about five years later, it had become a "ghost town", only the railroad remained.
Thanks for the ideas I retired a year and a half ago and just started exploring that area for a winter escape from the Owens Valley Calif. which is my spring to fall hangout
Thank you Russ for your wonderful videos....and the sanity you offer decent people hanging on by a thread....Indeed keep going and we are watching you together. Colin is doing fine...But it is nice to have something like this to watch as we both miss traveling....Thank you so much Russ....Carolyn and Colin from Canada....Bless you All....
It's all there! Worked at Vidal Junction and lived in Big River. Got to 126°F one day in August 2005! It is fun there, even the Imported Red Fire Ants like it!!
Have you ever stopped at Ace Hardware Davis Building Supply and lumber in Parker? They have pretty much everything. Maybe you don't need to go to Havasu Home Depot.
I so wish you’d cover our fire between Big River & Blythe-even if you just collected other footage Let us all know what’s going on. We have no local news & I can see the fire closest to Big River Park from my house when it starts back up every night. Russ, You’re the best.
Sir ~ you have the best information and I’ve learned a lot about Arizona just watching your videos , so thank you so much ! Sitting out in the sun with a fresh doughnut that's ideal social distancing! No idea why that area reminds me of a neighbor lived few houses over out on the delta; he'd ride his reverse trike vanity plates read K G B..& boast he was born at the same time and same place as our then VP/now current President.
Wild Donkeys roam around the area, left by miners from back in the old days. Always neat to see them. They are a danger on the roads here especially at night. They come into the RV Resorts and raise a ruckus. People feed them too but really should not.
17:52 - i get "lack of rain"....however i heard (please correct me if i am wrong) that they are damming the rivers up to push higher amounts of irrigation or water collection for bottling, based on ..1. looks like a hot, dry summer according to OFA..and 2. increased demand for bottled water. (i wish they would put the water in aluminum over plastic, it costs more to make the plastic bottle and fill it, where Al is cheaper and can be recycled many times. I betcha if they gave you 3 cents per bottle here, our MUA would have cars lined up down the street for that, or grocery stores would be doing that with some sort of electonic payment card that could be swapped into your bank account. But, I'm an old biologist/ecologist who should be put out to pasture, because I use science as a tool to undersstand the universe, not justify strange or bad behavior because "i trust it" Feeling like a dinosaur watching the meteor hit and going "well, my time's up" while everyone else celebrates how "brave" and "stunning" the 5 mile wide rock moving at 20K towards the ground is for them. oh well. "Last call for the intelligent and critical thinking"...either escape or get eaten.
