This is the best sweater and video pattern ever. I started watching your video in 2018-2019 and have already made five sweaters for myself (different colors of course) and now I'm making one for a relative. And every time I go to buy yarn I see new colors and I want to make a new sweater. Thank you
I just finished this cardigan it is beautiful on me it just fits me like a glove. My husband caught me twirling around in front of the mirror and said wow you look very nice in that. I’ll be making one in every color.
To observe this video with its clarity and glow of the yarn is dopamine-raising! I am sitting and crocheting as this presentation is running, and watching the sweater take shape. WOW!
I have never seen a sweater constructed this way. It's fabulous. And thank you so much for having the larger sizes. And it was made in one of my favorite yarns which I have plenty of, so it's nice to see how it will come out. Have a great day. Stay safe, stay healthy.
Hi! All of the stitch counts and information needed to make all 9 sizes are given in the written pattern. You can view the free version of the written pattern by visiting the first link in the video description. I hope this helps!
YOU MY DEAR NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE ME YOU ARE TRULY INCREDIBLE, YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE JUST BLOWS ME OUT IF THE WATER AND NO DOUBT YOUR PARENTS MYST BE SOOO VERY PROUD OF YOU AND YOUR KNITTING/CROCHETING PROJECTS. THANKYOU FOR YOUR VIDEOS THEY ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED
I’ve made 4 of these. Gave 2 away, one to each of my two sisters. This is the best video I’ve found. I’ve never made a wearable before this. Thank you so much. My crochet confidence has improved greatly. 😊
I love your videos. Very clear and concise instructions. I have made 3 cardigans (different pattern) and was surprised that i could actually make a sweater. I saw yours and thought it was beautiful. Following your awesome instructions im sure it will turn out just as beautiful as yours Looking forward to more of your videos..Thank you.
Just found this tutorial, your voice is so soothing makes it so easy to follow along and learn, this will be my first ever sweater, thank you so much for taking your time to teach and to share.
I made Cardigan as you said. Its beautiful. I am happy and now I'm making second cardigan. I am from India. Thank you for sharing with the crochet beginner. Love you sister 🤗
I'm just starting this as a Christmas gift for a family member, but I'd like to say thank you for including plus sizes! So many times I've gone to make a pattern and it stops at an XL. Very appreciative of that. 💖
Hi! This project does not begin with a foundation chain. Instead, we begin with a row of foundation half-double crochet, which works the foundation chain and the first row of half-double crochet at the same time. (This is abbreviated as Fhdc in the pattern.) I have a full tutorial and free printable cheat sheet for this technique available here: yayforyarn.com/foundation-crochet-stitches/ It is not much harder to work than a regular half-double crochet, but it creates a neat, stretchy foundation edge. Since our rows are running vertically, this helps the side seams of the cardigan to hang evenly, because there is no foundation chain to limit the stretch of the foundation edge. The free written pattern includes the numbers and instructions for all 9 sizes, so click the first link in the video description to view the free version of the written pattern. I hope this helps!
Hi Amy. The size Large is the 4th size in the list when the pattern gives a list of numbers. Instructions and yarn requirements for size X-Small are given outside the parentheses, with Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, 2X, 3X, 4X, and 5X given inside the parentheses, like this: X-Small (Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X). So when you see a list of numbers with parentheses, you'll only need to look at the 4th number in the list. I hope this helps!
Thanks for sharing this pattern! I finished my cardigan and it is beautiful. I didn't think the 178 stitch would be long enough but it IS LONG enough for me, love it! I'm 5'4". I added a few more rows at the end, for some reason I didn't feel that the 2 front panels closed up all the way. If some of you are wondering, this cardigan did take me almost a month to work on. I worked on it here and there, made some mistakes so had to redo some areas but it turned out great! Just in time for the cooling off season.
I've never made a vertical sweater. So thank you! That and I need a plus size. I'm still trying to get the hang of the foundation chain. But I love the yarn.
I just finished this cardigan and I have to say it is already my favorite!!! I cannot tell you how much I love your videos. Your patterns are so easy to follow, especially the purchased version which came with awesome color how-to photos!! I love to crochet along with you while I familiarize myself with the pattern! Thank you for all that you do, I look forward to the next one!
I have made 3 of these so far. The pattern was easy to follow. I gave them away as gifts and were very well received. When I see my friends wear them out it makes me so happy that they liked them. Thank you for also including the written instructions though I use the video more. I will be making another one soon, this one will be for myself.
What a Gorgeous Cardigan, I am vertically challenged and other crochet cardis look like they are horizontal stripes, even if just a simple pattern like this , so this looks like verticals stripes which would flatter anyone, think I am going to have to make myself one of these. Great Pattern and Tutorial, thank you so much.
I just watched the video all the way through and I love how you explain everything in great detail! You are an excellent teacher! Thank you very much!!
I wanted to thank you for making a pattern that includes big girl sizes. I’m a 4x, and a lot of the sweaters I find are s-xl. Also, thank you for making such cute styles. I’m looking forward to making this sweater for next years cold season!
Terri Leist Hello! ☺️👋🏻 Im a size 3x and I am also very grateful for this pattern that can be altered for plus sizes. That being said, I’m a beginner and I looked at the pattern for the 3X but I don’t really understand any of it lol 🙈 it doesn’t say how many rows to crochet at each step to be able to make the 3x. I think it gives cm. Am I supposed to crochet and mesure until I get that length? Please help? Thank you 😘😘
Hi! If you click the first link in the description box, it will take you to view the free version of the written pattern. The pattern includes precise instructions for all 9 sizes, from a women's XS to 5X. If you read through the sizing information, the pattern explains how the numbers for the different sizes are written out in the instructions. So you won't need to alter the pattern or guess at how many rows for a 3X, because all of those numbers and instructions are included in the written pattern. I hope this helps!
This is a great looking sweater. You're a great teacher. Your instruments make it look super easy. I've never made a vertical sweater before. Thank you so much!!!!
It's very nice to have someone who makes a video to actually answer the public's questions when they need help. Thank you for that and for this awesome video. I am going to try to get this started this month.
Beautiful cardigan, and a very well explained video, not dragging too much but enough explanation for even an absolute beginner to clearly understand. Perfect in every way. Thank you so much for providing this pattern free and also for this instructional video. Loved your techniques of construction too. I’m a new subscriber 😍
I hope you read my comment I just finished my cardigan for my friend . It's super easy 👌 as i am a beginner and the video is clear . Although i am Egyptian i could understand it easily thanks
I Love your style of crochet, you just dive right in, more for we advanced hookers, you don't spend the first 5 minutes explaining the slip knot. Subscribed!!
This is such an awesome teaching video! I have seen some of your other videos also. You are very good. You speak clearly, slowly and don't waste time yet give the viewer time to pause and re-start the video. This is the first sweater I have actually started and finished! I will be making another one using a different yarn. Thank you so much for taking the time to do such a great video!!
Almost done of my first ever sweater! You've made this so easy to follow, that this is the first time I've almost completed a project!! Just a quick question please. I'm at the very left few rows that say to do all hdc. Could you continue with the ribbing instead. I really like that look. Or does it affect the way it seem lie Thanks so much for this pattern and all the other patterns you have so kindly given us.
Hi Cathy! So glad you're enjoying the pattern! If you're referring to the neck edging, then yes, you could work all ribbing stitches in those rows if you prefer. I hope this helps!
WOW!!! Thank you so much for this very detailed, informative and calm tutorial. You explained every detail so well that I can now not wait to start my cardigan. It will be my very first cardigan. Have done beanies, scarfs, blankets and a ponch which I hated and turned into a blanket 😂 Thank you for sharing this pattern and your knowledge. I will be keeping an eye out for all your tutorials. Have a blessed day. 🌹
I just finished making this in the 2X size. The sleeves came out too wide for my arms but it is still a beautiful sweater. I've gotten tons of compliments on it and am going to make my daughter in-law one. It was very quick and easy as well. Love this pattern and will definitely be making more in different colours!
Hi. All of the stitch counts and information needed to make all 9 sizes are given in the written pattern. You can view the free version of the written pattern by visiting the first link in the video description. I hope this helps!
What a great teacher you are! Really like your tutorial! Have made 4 of these sweaters. Would love and appreciate if you would add a p. s. to this video and add pockets. Let me if you can or if you have another video that shows pockets. Again, thank you for being a great teacher!😀
Hi Debbie! I'm so glad to hear that you are enjoying the pattern so much! I don't have a video on pockets, but I can add that to my list of possible future videos. Thanks for the suggestion!
I am so glad you had a video for this. Cause I got lost real quick just trying to read the instructions. And thank you very much for having videos and instructions while showing it very clear and understandable. Keep up the awesome work.
Thank you for the excellent, easy to follow instructions. You're an excellent instructor. I will be making this beautiful cardigan just as soon as I finish my current project.
Thank you so much for sharing this lovely jacket. You are the most amazing Crochet teacher on RU-vid! You deserve Millions of likes & Subscribers. God bless you
This was an excellent tutorial, thank you so much. I've never seen a sweater crocheted in this manner. I am looking forward to making this. I just purchased the pattern from your website. Thank you for making it available 🙂💞
Thanks so much for this wonderful pattern. I love it. I'm wondering how you would make. For example, a size extra large. Or 2X longer in the length of a sweater. Where would you stop for the neck edging? So basically I would want it longer and not wider. How would I do this? Thanks so much
Okay, let's say you wanted to add 20 stitches to the length of the cardigan (20 in back and 20 in front). You would add 40 stitches to the total number of stitches in your foundation row. Then, when you work Row 3, add 20 stitches to however many stitches it tells you to work for the size you are making. That will make sure you stop in the right place for the back neck opening. On rows 4 and 5, you'll also need to add 20 to the number of hdc stitches in the instructions. On Row 6, add 20 stitches to the number of hdc stitches, and add 20 extra fhdc stitches as well. That would be how I would suggest approaching adding length to the sweater. If you wanted to add a different amount of length, you would follow the same process with whatever number of stitches you wanted to add. I hope this helps!
Thank you so much for the free pattern in a bunch of sizes! So many designers are only giving you the free size they make on the tutorial and then you have to buy any other size. I know that you guys have to make $, but I don’t have the $ to buy patterns right now. It’s beautiful! I can’t wait to make it! Thanks again!
I'm making this currently and can't wait to finish! using Redheart SS in Grey Heather. I know it's an inexpensive yarn, but it this turns out like I think it will, I'm going to try different yarns and colors. Looks really nice so far.
Beautiful sweater! I need some more practice before trying something like this. Hopefully I will be making it this fall. Thank you for the great video. Very informative.
I'm just about to start my second sleeve, and so far your pattern has been super easy and the video is extremely helpful!! Thank you for creating a cardigan pattern that is easy to read and crochet :) I'm so excited to be able to wear it!! I can't make my hook go fast enough! :)
This is by far "THE BEST" pattern ever....I just finished my 5th one and plan on making more, what's nice about this pattern is you can adjust it to any sizing you wish. I've altered this to be shorter on some and they turned out nice. I'm in love girl, thank you
I'm not even 15 minutes into watching this tutorial & I already love the pattern & your instructions! I've been looking for a simple cardigan tutorial, as this will be my 1st! The pictures are beautiful & I can't wait to get mine done! Thank you for the video & written pattern! Liked & subscribed! 🧶😊

Thank you for adventuring into the vertical lines! I would love to try this in a stripe- oriented yarn or an ombre/ medallion type. I just can't help but get excited as boitvthr possibilities! Thank you for the lovely tutorial :)
I absolutely love this pattern! Easy to follow and easy to do! Love that it's worked in only 3 pieces! Sleeves were a little too big for me so I went down 2 hook sizes and 2 sleeve sizes and I love it!!!
Oh my this is beautiful and looks so super simple. I love the yarn color too. I think I will make one of these for my mother in law who had cancer and gets cold easy. Thank you for the great tutorial.
This pattern was very easy, I really appreciated the video to go along with it. As it made it easier to ensure I was doing the stitches correctly. This was my 1st time trying a cardigan, so I very pleased with the outcome. I would love to share my picture of my finished product, but I'm not sure how.
Hi Donna! I'm glad you are happy with your new cardigan! If you want to share a photo, you can post it to Instagram and tag me @yayforyarn, or, if you use Ravelry, you can post a project there. I hope this helps!
Thank you for doing this tutorial. I have this yarn in a pretty pink and now with your tutorial I have my project for it. I love sweater & cardigan tutorials!
This is my first cardigan and it's working up nicely. I'm using the chainless starting dbl crochet for the top of the sleeves to make them straight for sewing to the body of the sweater easier. A little awkward to pick up first but worth the effort.
This is lovely,I like Lion Brand Heartland too. Your work is beautiful and you explain in very good detail. I’m not a beginner crocheter but I believe this is beyond beginner level. It took me awhile to figure out the construction vertically,I do realize it cuts down on seaming. Unusual way to make sleeves would be a bit confusing. It’s still beautiful though plz don’t think as negative I love your beautiful work ❤️
Hi, thank you for sharing such a beautiful sweater, I need help though please, I’m fairly new to the crochet world and I’m not great at reading patterns so I was wondering if you could please tell me which fnd dch I need to make a 2x then I’ll figure it out from there thank you so much😊
Hi. The pattern includes instructions for 9 sizes. The 2X is the 6th size in the list, so any time you see a list of numbers with parentheses, the 6th number applies to the 2X. So for instance, when the pattern says you should have 178 (178, 182, 182, 186, *186* , 186, 190, 190) foundation half-double crochet stitches after completing Row 1, the 6th number in the list is 186, so you'll need 186 foundation half-double crochet (total) for the 2X size. I hope this helps!
Just finished my first sweater it’s gonna be a great gift for my mothers birthday thank you so much for this pattern I feel it can be altered in so may way to create may other creations.
I absolutely love the pattern but after sewing it all together I tried it on and it didn't fit my arms which is really unfortunate. I will see if my mom can wear it. For plus sized, I just think it runs a little small. It is beautiful though so I may make another once I get more yarn but I will go up a size or two.
Thank you very much for this pattern I’m loving it but I need some help I just finished row six and now I have to repeat row to but I have 101 stitches in row two says for my size that I need to get across 162 stitches so am I needing across the stitches that I’ve already done on the one side
This is an excellent cardigan tutorial. You do a great job of explaining what you are doing. I am working on a crocheted sweater right now. I would love to try this cardigan next.
Love this. I need help. I'm making this for my 10yr old granddaughter but she picked up #3 Baby Bee sweet delight in 2 colors. Suggested hook 7/4.5mm how do I figure out stitch count, hook size etc...
Hi. This pattern calls for #4 Medium / Worsted Weight yarn. If you would like to use #3 yarn, I would suggest looking for a different pattern that calls for #3 yarn. If you were to try to make this pattern with #3 yarn, you would need to rewrite almost the entire pattern, as changing the yarn thickness will affect all of the numbers in the pattern. I would not suggest trying to adjust this pattern for a different yarn weight unless you feel comfortable designing your own patterns from scratch. I hope this helps!
Love this pattern, but next time I make it, I'll make some changes. I wear a small, but made the medium size because I wanted it bigger. I used caron simply soft eco. lol this thing turned out huge! Still comfy tho.
Blondie Newton I’m afraid of this happening too. I always have to tweak patterns no matter. Usually they are made for plus size people and you can only go down so many hook sizes. I will make this but will go down in stitches and hook size. I’m 5’2” and 118#. Nothing ever fits bc it fits plus size people these days. Nice to see her make a medium right?! 😊🧶
Beginner here, just wondering if you could do it without the edging? It looks beautiful but I like a more raw texture on my clothing edges. Thanks for any tips!
*OH I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR CARDIGAN & YOUR YARN CHOICE 💝!!!* YOU HAVE AN AMAZING GIFT FOR CROCHETING & TEACHING. YOUR TUTORIAL WAS SO CALMING & VERY DETAILED 😊💝! I AM ALL ABOUT COMFY & COZY, LOL 😊 SO I KNOW I WOULD LOVE THIS ONE 💝! I HAVE NEVER FELT COMFORTABLE ENOUGH TO TRY A CARDIGAN BEFORE I WATCHED YOU, SO I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO ADD IT TO MY LIST! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR CARING SO MUCH ABOUT YOUR FOLLOWER'S ON YOUR RU-vid CHANNEL & FOR SHARING 😊💝! GOD BLESS YOU SWEET GIRL & I HOPE YOU HAVE AN AMAZING HAPPY NEW YEAR 🙏✝🎈🎇🎈🎉🎈!!!
Hi! I love this sweater! I would like to make it knee length. Is there any thing I should do beside make it longer? I can't see where a stitch count would matter except for the ridges. But I'm often wrong! I hope you see this as its older. But I'm starting! Thank you for this pattern!
Hi Elizabeth. If you want to make it longer, you'll just need to make sure you add the same number of stitches to both the front and back of the sweater (both ends of the row for the portions that extend to both the front and the back). On the center back portion, where you stop crocheting all the way across and only work across one section of the piece, you'll need to keep in mind that only half of the total number of stitches you have added will be included in that section when you follow the instructions and stitch counts. I hope this helps!
Hi. The model is wearing the size small. You can size up for a looser-fitting cardigan, or size down for a closer-fitting cardigan, but the sweater is designed with a slightly loose, slouchy fit. I hope this helps!
You have great patterns with very easy to follow instructions! And your voice is very nice to listen to. Thank you so much for these beautiful tutorials 😊
This was a very nice sweater i made it thankyou i did change the sleeve to a smaller size the first time u made it the sleeves are to wide for the small size
