You can double the energy it produces, if you put a mirror or an reflector under it.

How can you get 2 Watts? The output voltage is a maximum 2 Volts without load, and assuming the voltage does not decrease with the load conected, this means that the current will be 1 Amper. But with load the voltage decrease a lot and then the current too. I had try this before and only got a few miliwats, low voltage and low current. It this is true it has more performance as better solar panel in the world.

i read this only makes 32 mw that is still pretty impressive, does it work as well without the glass(or stained with passionberry tea) ? or does it need a minimum ammount of volts to maintain the effect better (something like jewl thief needed) ? also maybe something instead of wood is preferred to make more free electrons.

I think two glass plates might work better, at least in exposing the diodes to light from additional angles. A parabolic mirror under the "back" side would also help (although diodes do have a maximum of breakdown limit). Similarly, a fresnel lense on the "front" side would increase performance. I'm no expert, I could be wrong lol.

Yea, he always shows, "sure I can produce a voltage", but, how much work can you achieve with it. You need to show how much actual current it produces. It may be cheaper than photo voltaic cells, but, without showing a current rating it's only static and useless.

Este adevărat, dar nu neapărat diode zener, ci orice joncțiune a unui tranzistor sau diodă, produce 0,4V dacă e cu germaniu și 0,7V pe celulă, dacă e cu siliciu, Legate serie și paralel cum a făcut el, se poate face o baterie mai mare, după voință. Dacă pe un suport se va bobina 100-130 de spire din sârmă CuEm, și se leagă în serie cu acea baterie creată, se poate obține și un curent mai mare (experimentat de mine) !

I doubt many people will actually make one, but, it could be a valuable lesson if an unusual design was having problems because the Zeners were producing current in light, but not dark.

Why are you misleading dude- 2W? Working principle: Due to p-n junction. If light falls in depletion region the rate of hole-electron pair generation increases and finally drift current wins over the diffusion current and thats why voltage is generated. But its max power delevering capacity is very less. Exactly speaking in micro amp. So P=1V*1uA=1uW and not 2W. Wrong heading 2W shows his immature mind.

You mentioned 50mA of load current. I'm guessing that is the short-circuit current at zero volts. Not at the max power point.

In Trinidad money, and his being almost the same at 3 to 5 dollars per zener diode that is like $500, which could buy me a 100 watt solar-cell, or a 240 watt inverter and a second hand car battery... Given that a the typical forward voltage drop of 0.72V and a 300mA maximum forward current rating of each diode, it's not surprising that the design shown here has limited "potential". It's an interesting idea in any case.

quodvultdeus kevin It does make power, but not anywhere near what's claimed. Several orders of magnitude less in fact. The junction in a diode is (put simply) essentially the same as the junction of a solar panel, except with a solar panel that junction is across the whole area. So he made a 1/2 cm^2 solar panel that has the junction facing 90 degrees in the wrong direction.
