These motors are varyable speed motors run by a special vfd with regenerative braking feature.

You can say it's a regenerative braking feeding back electrical energy by braking a conveyor belt draged by gravity. The belt conveyor is installed from uphill to downhill and is convaying limestone from mountain (mine) to our cement factory. Limestone is the basic raw material for cement production.

Interesting... so what you're explaining is, that when the conveyor belt are up and running the flywheel spin up at the same time and the momentum of the flywheel keeps the belt moving and the motors are now working as generators and you use the flywheels as mechanical batteries. Did I understand the system correctly?

Yes. But gravity is pulling the conveyor belt along with material on it. That gravitational drag is converted into electrical energy and is fed back to line. Only flywheels do nothing.
