Hi Leah! Thanks so much for sharing fantastic tips on Janome sewing machine and how Janome professional line does free motion quilting! Amazing tips! TBH, I was just told today by a salesman of a sewing machine that I should not pick BabyLock or Janome high-end ones if I want free motion as I cannot put a feeding foot down like regular machines, though he gave me a pretty reasonable quote on the second highest end machine Janome had available. But after watching your video, I decided to look into the Janome or BabyLock (Janome makes their industrial straight only stitch, I know this as I live in Japan and these are Japanese companies! :D ) I am so inspired by your nice friendly and pleasant teaching style and your beautiful quilts you are always making! I will be watching more of your videos and subscribed!! 😊

Love that you went into the free motion feet. I had one from my other machine thinking all would work out...put it on and yikes! That foot did not fit! LOL. It was a Janome convertible foot so I thought it would be fine but I did not think about how differently the machines are made! Well, more practice with the machine while I wait for the foot! Thanks for selling all that you need!

This video has been so helpful to me. I have a 1600p and the feet that you described and the slider sheet but could never get my machine to free motion quilt. The problem was that my thread would keep breaking constantly. I saw you suggested isacord thread and figured I would give it a try. What a difference. No breakage. It amazes me what a difference thread choice makes. I love my 1600p for piecing. It is a workhorse. But now I am thrilled that I can also do my free motion quilting on this baby. Thank you for this video and all your tips and tricks.

Thank you for posting this! I am getting a Janome 1600! I just bought one from Leah yesterday! I am so excited!!!! I always use aurifil thread and get breakage on the frame and will be going along fine and get a random nest! Drives me bananas! So I bought a TON of Isacord thread and I am jumping all in!

Thank you for another great video! I own 5 Janome machines. I may invest in that convertible walking foot!!! I’ve watched lots of your videos with your long arm Q’nique machines......you helped me decide on my purchase of the Q’nique 15R last fall. (I’m embarrassed to admit, I’ve not even threaded it yet!) 😬. Last week, (after rewatching your set up videos) I was able to get the leader cloths attached to the Qzone frame! I’ve ordered three types of thread and hope to practice very soon on a quilt sandwich! Ugh! Wish me luck!! 😝

It's a Convertible Darning Foot and you can find it here - leahday.com/products/convertible-darning-foot-kit Just pick the Janome that you use most often for machine quilting. I hope you'll get your 15R going soon! Just remember - it's only thread and fabric and batting. That's it!

I have a Janome P1600 and really like it. I watched this video on free motion quilting that you did on this machine. I enjoyed it but still having problems. You didn't mention what the foot pressure indicator should be set at. I set it at 0. Also what is the setting you need for the thread tension dial. I set mine at 6 and after a short time the thread wouldn't feed because it was so tight. Please help. Thank you for all your helpful hints and videos.

Thank you for a great video. Can you explain how to get the beginning threads out of the way when using a closed foot, rather than the open toe you were using? Thank you
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 2 года назад
You'll just have to poke the thread through the closed toe, then pull up threads exactly as I've showed in this video. Not really a different method, just a bit more annoying because of the closed base.
@CharanSachar

Such a cool foot ...I wonder if the Janome foot would fit a Singer machine...very informative. Your stitches and free motion quilting is perfection..I still break needles ( I mustn't have the needle speed fast enough..what do you think?)
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 4 года назад
Yes, most likely I can find a Convertible Foot to fit your Singer, provided it's not a Slant Shank. Yes, I think you need to either slow down your hand movement or speed up your machine.

Hi Leah, fantastically informative video which I thank you for as it swayed me to buy the HD9. Would love some advice regarding fmq with it if you could spare the time? I've brought the correct foot but I'm finding near and on intersections lots of stitch skipping. I've played with foot depth and tension but I'm getting nowhere. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. Angie
@LeahDay
@LeahDay Год назад
My bet is the issue is foot height - if the foot is skimming too high over the quilt surface the thread will skip. Give that a try and see if it helps!

Hi Leah..Thank you for this great tutorial! I have a problem with my machine in that it breaks the thread continuously! I also use Isacord thread. I am so frustrated because I cannot work properly!! I have changed the needle, rethread the top thread, used another spool of thread..nothing changes! Please help!
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 3 года назад
Is your thread breaking when free motion quilting only? If so, try lowering the height of your foot. It sounds like the base is too high over your quilt and allowing too much bounce and friction around the needle. If you don't have it yet, the Convertible Darning Foot is awesome and allows you to get the foot height perfect! leahday.com/products/convertible-darning-foot-kit

Leah what stitch plate do you use for free motion quilting, I have 2 plates, with numbers or not. Thanks.
@LeahDay
@LeahDay 2 года назад
The thicker plate is designed for free motion quilting on the 1600. Because the feed dogs don't drop, they designed a needle plate that was thick enough to conceal the feed dogs. Or you could use the regular plate that is thinner and just set your stitch length to 0. I find that works great for me!
