Your Rivian charge port is on the left, so use the charger on your most right. That's how you fit in without causing a disruption. I learn the hard way with my Lightning. The adapter is very useful. So right charger is always right, that's the way to think about it.
The information about this (v.1-2 versus v.3-4 superchargers) has been out there for many months. So it should not have been a surprise. Tesla's web site and app will tell you which sites are compatible with CCS vehicles with an adapter. Getting access to Tesla v.3 and v.4 superchargers is much better than not getting access to v.3 and v.4 superchargers--for most of us. For some of us, apparently, this is not the case. So please send me your adapter, and I'll put it to good use.
And the Rivian charge map tells you which Tesla Supercharger sites are compatible.... it's not complicated but you do need some basic knowledge - I suspect they told him how to find chargers when he bought the car or details about using the adapter when he received it?
No actually it was mostly due to the size of the Rivian. It's bigger the most Tesla's so the length of the charge cable was to short not to have to tie up 2 spots to reach.@MichaelTavel
@@michaelrohrs7475 My understanding is that unless you are on the right-most dispenser or a pull-through dispenser, a Rivian or a Ford is bound to take up two charging stalls, given the cable length on the v.3 superchargers. Tesla seems to have done the math and decided to go with that arrangement. Am I missing something?
@@williamelkington5430 no guy I was replying to was trying to blame an app or not reading app correctly when the issue in video was it was busy on a Sunday afternoon and only way to charge was to take up 2 spots.
@@michaelrohrs7475 There were several issues raised in the video. The crowded issue on a Sunday afternoon has nothing to do with the adapter but rather has to do with the inadequacy of charging infrastructure.
I own a Rivian R1T and have an adapter and it works extremely well. Another option is to purchase an at home charger. Wake up every day with a full charge in the convenience of your own home. Upfront costs associated to install this, yes, but worth it.
I want an R1S but bought Model X instead. The non Tesla charging experience with videos like this scare the B-Jesus out of me. In two weeks I will drive my X from FL to PA without thinking twice about where to charge. 🤪
Wait, you're complaining about a feature that was never promised when you purchased your vehicle but was provided for free later on as a perk? Make it make sense. You, out of anyone, should know better.
You can't easily make that since the chargers cable on a >50kW charger is water cooled. But the plug doesn't forward the cooling so the extension wouldn't be cooled. The charger cannot monitor the temperature of the extension cord and therefore this would be very unsafe.
Haha you clearly aren't a product designer. Just the EMC test and other electrical testing will cost more than an average person makes in a year. Also, do you know how patents work?
😂 your navigation in your Rivian tells you which superchargers are compatible, how many are available, and if an adapter is needed. Your video shows a v3 not a V4 Supercharger. V3 have shorter cables. V4 are longer and the problem of taking up two spots solved.
Got my adapter, knew about the fact not all Tesla superchargers working…Nav system directed me to one that works with adapter and showed how many were available. It did require me taking up two spots, which I knew would be the case. Did not cause an issue for anyone else as the station was not completely full. Perfect…no…does it work?…yes.
If other manufacturers want to use the SuperCharger network, they need to standardize where the charge port is on the car or install more than one port.
Side question for you noticed you wearing Video Glasses, a couple of questions about them. What brand are they? When you were looking at the dash of the Rivian was that footage from the Glasses? If so was very good. Finally, does it do anything besides recording like AR?
It seems to me, that Tesla can kill all the other competitors networks by installing new stations with the magic dock so that CCS and NACS can charge seamlessly with its longer cable.
Tesla built like, 90% of the existing infrastructure without government grants. Now they get some compensation (grants) but Tesla is STILL paying for most of the cost of the new facilities. Instead of 100% (like before the grants) they now pay less than 100%. Seriously, if you listen to the Mass Media, it’s full of Tesla misinformation. Their customers and Tesla junkies tell a very different story.
Are you able to make up your own Tesla extension cord or could you use a extension cord between your car and the adapter that is plugged in at the Tesla cord
@@whyme8068 but then the charger cannot monitor if the vehicles charge port overheats. Also the cable would be extremely heavy because the extension cannot be liquid cooled. According to some napkin math you would need at least two 14mm² conductors. That would be a 6kg cable for a 1 meter extension, if you needed longer cable that would not be enough gauge. If you needed to stretch to the other side of the vehicle that becomes unreasonable very quickly.
@@wolfgangpreier9160 I’m sure you’ve never used a different charger and your panels were produced using entirely renewable energy. You’re single-handedly saving the whole world. 👍🏻
I thought there was gonna be some kind of legit complaint here about build quality or implementation, not just rehashing complaints that have nothing to do with the adaptor itself. I expected better from this channel.
Bingo. Switching from one mono-fuel vehicle to another mono-fuel vehicle. Every financial planner will say you must diversify to be successful and resilient why is it frowned upon in the energy space?
With the time you spent making this useless video you could have done some research so you fully understand the vehicle you own and the partnership with Tesla. The length of the Tesla cable is not the shortcoming (pun intended) of Rivian. You actually said that you ignored the car telling you that the station you went to was NOT compatible. Owning an EV is not difficult if you use common sense. You are saying the adapter is useless but never used it for what it is intended for... Does it connect to a Tesla Supercharger? Does your car get power? If it does those things, then it is not useless

With the current state of public EV chargers, owning en electric car is painful if you can’t charge at home. But if you have your own dedicated parking spot with at least a 20 amp 240 volt outlet, it easier and cheaper to “fuel” than a petrol powered car. Your adapter may not be very useful right around your house/shop but it will serve you well if you road trip. I’ve stopped at many a Tesla Supercharger on lots of very long road trips, and rarely encounter a station that anywhere near full. Yes, at most superchargers the Rivian will block one stall while using another. And that’s a big problem at a crowded station. But although you ran into a crowded station, and that particular station may often be crowded, the vast majority of Supercharger sites aren’t usually very full.
I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia and the nearest compatible supercharger is in Quebec, 850 km away. On the way there I would pass about 8 incompatible superchargers. Hopefully Tesla will start upgrading some of the old superchargers.
Of course they will upgrade once in a while, but it is not Teslas fault if your, whatever car, is not compatible, shit happens 😉 by the way, Tesla invited ALL OEMs to build a common SuC-Network in 2012 and no one was interested, now it is what it is, not the best for OEMs.
This is exactly why I don't believe in EV cars, it's because of stupid issues like this, because the infrastructure is a joke, because cars are insanely overpriced, because of the headache of thinking about your car battery EVERY TIME you want to drive your car.
Not sure what head ache you are talking about, I have a tesla with free supercharge for life.... all I do is drive there connect it done simple....I eat at my local pho next to it and it's done.
@jehugarcia I'm not talking about your rivian, I'm responding to the guy saying about all EV in general I'm response to him, I have zero issues with my tesla and locations ... tho your issue is with rivian it self.
It is always unpredictable if you get lucky with a charger and you ALWAYS plan your long trips considering where the charging stations are. And the fact that Tesla has better charges while the rest are catching up is another reason why EV industry is way to far to be mature enough to even consider any EV car.
@bosonhiggs1724 I'm just talking about my tesla and experience, never have an issue and it literally tells you what places to charge at and it's been so simple for me, granted I haven't gone on a super far trip like 4 hours and more yet
