I'm Grant Whitbourne, the founder of this empowering initiative. 'Starting In Te Reo Māori' is more than just a channel; it's a movement dedicated to preserving the enduring legacy of Te Reo Māori, the indigenous language of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Tēnā koe Grant, really enjoying your instructive videos! Been mostly watching your old stuff so far. I had a request on something I simply cannot seem to find anywhere, I really could use some insight on adding to my whaikōrero as manuhiri at pōwhiri for my class (especially an īnoi and showing respect the tangata whenua of the marae). I'm the only guy in my primary education class at uni in Auckland, this term we visited a school to observe the Māori and Samoan bilingual units to see it being taught in action. This came with a Pōwhiri and our fluent lecturer was late so I ended up taking the whaikōrero. I luckily knew my mihimihi which I shared (including quickly learning "akomanga" on Te Aka so I could introduce them too haha), but nothing beyond that for pōwhiri uses. Would love to hear what you might share on the topic e hoa, so I hope you see this. Thanks again for all your video lessons, aroha mai aroha atu :)
