You guys asked and so here is my response: why I’m going freelance in 2022. Here are the three main reasons I decided that this was the right moment and it had to happen this year

Uhm… it is actually FREE to OPEN a P.IVA while the COST comes in MAINTAINING it open… (I’m a P.IVA in Italy)

You’re right I misspoke, not really sure why, maybe some brain fog from talking about the topic for so long 💀 anyways I removed that part of the video completely because not only did I mis-speak but it’s confusing and doesn’t really make sense, give it a few hours to update. To recap: It’s free to open a partita iva and you can do it yourself via the agenzia delle entrate. You pay to upkeep it and the cost varies on how you do that. Using my commercialista I paid around 400 a year for my forfettario and now that I’m in ordinario it’s like 1600 a year. Pinning this comment and nice catch!

That’s a good price for commercialista as forfettario! I know some that ask 800€ for forfettario 😰😱

That’s why I was trying to give a range because that was maybe three years ago and prepandemic 🥲 last I heard my commercialista now charges 500/600…inflation I guess 😬

Well taxes in Italy are high but there are some exceptions. If you are new resident you could exploit the Inpatriate Regime and you end up paying just 4% max in taxes. Moreover, if your revenue is lower than 65K per year you could exploit the Forfait Regime (Regime Forfettario). Beside this, the most common problems is that the "commercialista" in Italy are not willing to explore this benefits and/or they don't speak proper english. That's the reason that makes me thing to open a youtube channel to try to solve this issue.

Going from a determinato to a partita IVA, especially if they've promised an indeterminato, is definitely not legal. That's what's called a "falsa partita IVA", and to prevent it there are some limits the states imposes: for example, if you open a partita IVA, you can't have only one client and your former employer can't be more than 50% of your income. This is because employers in Italy often try to get out of paying taxes by having their employees open false partite IVA.

To the person asking for resources for freelance translators: if you find out let me know 😅 actually, the real struggle is to start working in this field, I wonder if I should open the p Iva first or wait for someone to hire me and then open it. Problem is, no one seems to want to hire me because I have no experience (I just graduated)... bah, il solito sistema italiano del cavolo. Anyway, thanks Tia for the Q&A, it was very useful!

Congratulations on your wedding. Wishing you the best. I’m close to retirement but would like to acquire a home in Italy, I love Italy. Been there only once, but would like to return…. Is there a website, I can see for homes for sale in Rome or Milan area? Not really sure where to start or which place to pick. Just a 2 bd/bath apartment is perfect… I’m from California.
