The glucose monitoring without the finger prick! What's it all about? Watch this video as I unbox both the FreeStyle Libre Reader and Sensor. At 5:25 I apply the sensor on my arm for the first time! Lastly, at 8:32 watch me take my first reading, and put the Libre to the test.

Careful to examine the sensor when you remove it. Abbott has confirmed that there have been multiple instances where the needle has detached and stayed in the patient. This happened to me without my initial knowledge. With zero help from Abbot, I had to go through 3 doctors in order to get exploratory surgery to remove the needle. It too over 4 months of being in pain. Abbott would not help cover costs or even call back. I wish I could post the beautiful pictures of the blood and incision for everybody to see.

I have used this product for four months and for four months The needle has fallen out for three and for the fourth month the needle stuck in my arm now for months that means eight tries to no avail I even taped it on my arm but when I work and I flex my muscle thing pops out this thing is a piece of crap I have notified the manufacture to no avail but I will get their attention eventually I’m gonna take them down through every media news station whatever I can possibly do yelp everybody this product does not belong on the market until it’s fixed properly this is a generic piece of junk you don’t put it on your muscle so when you move your arm a needle pops out and the last two cases the needle didn’t pop out the stick and popped out and the needle stayed in and I even taped it on my arm still popped off is this a joke that they’re playing on me well I don’t like jokes playing on me I get angry and now I’m angry I have nothing to test my diabetes and I’m pissed. I am going to have to get a hold of yelp or the news media etc. etc. and till this problem is rectified and I am reimbursed for eight needles so that comes out to $120 dollars. I have done exactly what they’ve told me to do and even put tape on my arm to scan the first one lasted a week the second one lasted two days it goes on and on and on and I’m tired of complaining I don’t like it but I don’t like being taken for a fool when you put something in your muscle and you flex your muscle while you’re working it’s gonna pop out common sense.

I had a low reading on a few occasion and the FreeStyle 14-day meter was showing normal readings. Quickly I checked it with another Accu check meter and fixed the low sugar issue. I called the customer service support, as usual, the call went to a different country. They kept me on phone for 1/2 hour took all my info and was unable to resolve the simple problem. This product is not cheap in the US for this kind of service and results. I would say if you are using this product then keep a different backup meter for yourself.

FINALLY! :) A video that explains what exactly is left stuck in your arm! A filament that monitors your levels sounds a lot better than an actual needle in your flesh 24/7. I've watched almost a dozen videos now and they were all very unhelpful including the manufacturer of this product! Thanks for the in-depth explanation here.

Nik Galego I like that it’s not actually a needle but a flexible filament. Of course who would want a needle stuck on your arm for 14 days. Well, I heard somewhere that the goal of the freestyle libre is to launch a needle- less Glucose monitoring system.

I especially like Michael's technique. Easier to stick on the arm and super easy to scan for glucose results, especially during dialysis when my one arm has to remain 100% immobile. Unfortunately the two consecutive weeks I used his technique, the sensor always fell off before the one week was up. Maybe somehow the arm location is getting rubbed against my body? I don't know. It's a great idea but I just wanted to tell you about my experience. For whomever his technique works for - hats off. I wish I could say the same.

Great video, however, I recently tried this and if I had given myself insulin based on these numbers I would have passed out or at times not given myself enough. Numbers vary so much compared to finger pricks. It’s a great thing if numbers were in line. Occasionally they were close but most times not.

Your reading of 3.9 - is that a molarity unit - mmol/L? How does it correlate to a real-time reading of say, 60, 80, 100 or 150 on a conventional glucometer? Can I opt for display of reading in different units? What about showering, bathing, swimming or SCUBA diving? NoNo? YesYes? And what about wrestling? I mean, is this thing gonna stay on your arm if U R getting tossed about? What if you are used to washing vigorously with a washcloth or the same with a towel? Sweating? Anyone think of that? Let's not forget - Abbot is that same company who built and sold that crappy little Precision Xtra that the VA bought tens-of-millions of and prescribed them for veterans. It was an unreliable piece of click-bait tech most any developer would-a-been ashamed to put on the market. That unit displayed readings in units representing mass concentration per unit volume (mg/dL, I believe). Most people in the US using legacy GMs are familiar with reading values in those units. If you asked, "How's your blood sugar?" - you might get answers like, "I checked it this morning and it was under 100, so I'm OK". A 3.9 figure will not give them a peaceful easy feeling. I hope they were thoughtful enough to offer user selectable units. Does the reader have a USB port or other wired connection?

Keep in mind your A1C is a cumulation of 3 months worth of glucose levels. Red blood cells “lifetime” is only 3 months, so when blood is drawn for your A1C levels they see how much glocose has been on those red blood cells over a 3 month period. Hope that helps.

OK first - notice all RU-vid vid by Freestyle have the comments turned off.. says something bout the manufacturer... now good news THIS PRODUCT HAS ALLOWED ME TO DROP FROM 8.1 TO 7.2 A1C!!!! it is fabulous aid in monitoring blood! Now for the bad ... expect a 15-20% failure rate on the sensors.... If they ship you 6 sensors you WILL NOT GET 84 days of use [6 x 14 = 84]. I have been using this system for 6 months... it is addicting! you are constantly monitoring your blood in an effort to get an A1C of below 7! I just wish they had better quality control on the sensor manufacturing! PS.. the Libre consistently measures my blood 20 points lower than it is by finger prick... No big deal to me because I KNOW it underwrites and medicate accordingly... Still a fabulous product IMO

am tying to start my new reader but it's not getting on, so can it be that it has no charge or? secondly, my old reader is still working well but when I use my test strips it no longer give me results , it keeps on showing strip may be damaged, expired etc but the strips are valid. I have changed many of them but still doesn't work. can someone tell me what I can do? coz am thinking of charging the new reader but what if it refuses to work again? The other question is, how will i store the new reader after using it coz now i will be having two working readers ie the old one which doesn't give blood glucose test strip results and the new one which i only want to use when using the test stripes.

Don"t buy this libre free .it never show the correct mesure. I have used it to my child for 5 days , and it go from his arm. And the most important is that it never doesn't show the correct mesure and with too much diferent on it.

It checks the interstitial fluid and not blood glucose so you should talk about discrepancies.

Abbott has been great about replacing sensors that I either knocked off, or didn't scan. I've only had one that didn't scan after the 60min wait when starting a new sensor.

So do you mean for one person, he/she has to buy 2 boxes for both sensor and reader. If he/she buys one of them, it is useless. Am I right?

I've been a T1D for 28 years and this was the biggest waste of money and time for me. I hear that it works well for some people but I had 3 faulty sensors (out of 4) and the delayed readings were not easy to work with. Really nice video though 👍🏼

its more for type 1's and it works great if you know how to use it and are aware of its limitations-all cgm's have a lag time therefore you are always behind with the reading from whole blood. also, when your blood sugars are changing rapidly it will be off! the trick is for diabetics to stick to a low carb diet and use much less insulin but, since the ADA diet allows 240 grams of carb daily its no wonder blood sugars are uncontrollable-once you commit to that low carb diet the libre will work great.

I've used a cgms for 11 years with my dh the type 1 diabetic with hypoglycemic unawareness. The cgms isn't always accurate. If you have no awareness you are going low till you are barely conscious and very confused, a cgms is great but you are supposed to test to confirm that cgms low reading.. I've never used the Libre, but I think I read if your Libre reading is 3.9, you are supposed to test to confirm you are low. @@heypharmacist you get out of a lot of testing. I used a pump alone with my husband for 6 years and it's very frustrating to test and find he's normal. LOL! But you do have to test to confirm lows and highs before administering a correction bolus with your pump. Your video is very helpful for those who want to see how you apply the Libre sensor.
