Hello Andrea, I have no idea what you do for a living, however, I would definitely hope you worked in public speaking, broadcasting or something of the like. Your communication skills and presentation style are awesome! Very impressive! Keep it up!
Oh WOW - thank you so so so much Ian - these words mean more to me than I can possibly express- thank you!!! And thank you so much for watching - I'm very grateful indeed!!! 🙏🏻☺️
Very informative, I’m also going to use this opportunity to recommend Dr IGUDIA on RU-vid who cured my type 2 Diabetes with his natural herbs medication
👋🏻 HI.. and I AMbrand new here !)D And I've watched a few vids now as I will soon be wearing one of these also. I've been diabetic for some 25 year now.. LSshort... I see they recommend under arm placement, but what about most anywhere placements as long as it's not near muscle of coarse.. also wondering about Fat playing an role in the numbers crunch 🤷♀️ as I think upper chest would be more comfy for me but I'm heavy in that area as a woman. Thanks 🤗✌️
I often find that my Freestyle Libre 1 does give low readings for the first 12 hours or more. A couple of months ago I found a tip to get around this, just insert it 24 hours before you activate it. That seems to work a treat!
Thank you so much for sharing this Stephen! I've had a few people comment this, and I think it's brilliant and makes total sense! Thank you again for sharing it!!
I agree totally with you about inaccuracies with this device. If I was a type 1 diabetic I would look at one of the more premium solutions you have already reviewed. I am a type 2 and largely using Keto to control blood glucose with a great deal of success and the simplicity of this device has been a tremendous support :-)
@@svensterone i wouldn't be so quick to write the Freestyle Libre, it's been life changing for me since shifting over from finger prick tests. Yes, the readings can be a bit out if you start it immediately after inserting it, which is why I always apply a new one the night before my old one is due to expire to give it at least 12 hours to bed in. For anyone who takes the time to read up on how they work, it doesn't take the reading from blood like a finger prick test, but rather the fluid that lies below the blood vessels, which means there's usually a lag of 15 minutes between the CGM and a blood glucose reading from a finger prick test, hence why two readings taken at the same time on the different devices wouldn't correlate. this is why many medical professionals advocate using the Freestyle as a day-to-day CGM, but fall back on a blood glucose finger prick test when experiencing a low
I have been a type 1 diabetic for 2 years- was diagnosed in may 2019, a year after I had my son. I got the freestyle 14 day in December but it just wasn’t doing as well for me, so my endo switched me over to the freestyle 2 and I love it! I recently ordered and received some patches for it on Amazon and they definitely help it stay on the full 2 weeks! No more worry of it coming off early!
I’m so sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis, especially after giving birth, I can only imagine how stressful that must have been! You’re clearly amazing to be dealing with all of this so well, and I’m so glad the freestyle libre 2 is working well for you and that you’re able to get the full 14 day wear using the patches! That’s what it’s all about, finding what works best for us and makes our lives easier! I’m happy for you, and wishing you all the very best you amazing Mama, you!!! 💙
Love this video. You covered every step of the Libre2 quite nicely! The noise is what scares me, but it also sounds like a stamp machine, so I also imagine that I'm stamping myself with a picture of an animal. lol 😃 I also touched the needle (after use, of course) and it's the thickness of three human hairs -not thick like a finger stick device. This eased my mind, and I don't fear inserting my Libre2! Oh, and watching you insert the Libre1 in your previous video certainly calmed my fear, too! 🥰
Oh my gosh I LOVE your idea of thinking of it as stamping you with a picture of an animal! What an excellent way to think about it and to imagine it! Also so interesting about the actual thickness of the needle, that does make me feel better too! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words, I’m right there with you my friend! 💙💙💙
@@ShesDiabetic I think Mykl is right here. I did get somewhat better readings after moving the sensor down some. The site was more sore than usual, at least initially, but the readings were better after about half a day or so.
Oh my gosh - that is totally unacceptable. Thank you for sharing this here. Just goes to show - you always need to follow your feeling and double check - I would also urge you to call Abbott and complain because that's very dangerous - and unacceptable!
I'm surprised to see you trying/reviewing this, since you're such a fan of your Dexcom! Also, I mean this in the most respectful way and not trying to objectify you... but you are just so amazingly pretty! Like your cheerful peppy opening and your smile is just so uplifting and kind.
Oh don't worry - I'm still using the Dexcom G6 - I just decided to review the FSL 2 because so many people have asked me about it! I should have a 14 day recap coming out in the next few weeks! Also - thank you for your kind words! 🙏🏻😄
Really good video Andrea! I really like Libre 2. It's so convenient to apply and "wear" The main drawback I see is that it doesn't interface with any insulin pump. That is why I switched from Libre 2 to Dexcom G6.
Not really, actually! I feel very lucky in that respect. I did spend more time than anticipated in the states at one point which meant I ran low on supplies, but was very lucky to have the community there support me through in order to stay on my pump 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 What about you? 💙
Oh wow! I searched your video after getting terrified seeing the needle! I popped it on and laughed so hard because I didn’t even FEEL it! I felt it more afterward! Thanks for the video!
Former Army Medic here. I got over my needle issues when we trained by shooting each other. My understanding is that modern needles are Teflon coated. Except for IVs I've felt nothing for years.
Wow! Absolutely amazing! I bet you have so many interesting stories I’d love to hear! How interesting, I never knew needles were coated - but I agree! I hardly feel any of the shots nowadays! I’m right there with you!
My son is a diabetic this helps me alot thank you for taking the time to help other...having a diabetic kid or teenager not easy. God bless you. Thans again.😇🙏
Nhs only fund diabete type 1. Type 2 have to self fund and cost about 54 to 63 pound, dependent on where you buy it from and last 2 weeks.. Thats about 126 a month.. If you are working its not too bad.
Thank you for sharing this info with all of us here. It's not too bad if you're working, this is true, but I do wish that they would cover it for type 2's as well...🙏🏻💙
Hi Andrea, I'm a designer and I have been looking into diabetes products and packaging. I have seen from a lot of videos that most sensor applicators are disposable and cannot be used again. From what you know is it like that for all brands of applicators? Also thank you for saying that the loud click is the scary part, will look into that as well!
Hello! What an interesting job! All the applicators I've encountered were one time use only - correct! It would be most wonderful if in the future they were recyclable at the very least as it seems a lot of waste. And I do think the sound can be intimidating for many. I hope this helps!! Thank you for watching and taking an interest!
Its aowsm 🥺 Plzz help mee I dont know how to hydration my feet without make any mistake 💔💔 Im to scary and I dont have any one to ask and i fell my feet to dry but as u know only bad thing and scarest posted for diabtic 💔 If any one can help me I’ll be thankfull
I'm so sorry to hear you're experience dryness on your feet Fatima!! Please don't be scared! I would encourage you to talk to your doctor about this if it's something that's worrying you! And in the meantime would encourage you to moisturize your feet with a cream that you like! You can even put socks on after moisturizing at night for extra hydration! Good luck to you and don't worry! You're going to be okay!!
As a type two diabetic for the last number of years his fingers hurt and are bruised, and also as someone who despises reading instructions but can learn by watching a Wilburn video I am very very thankful for this site. Thank you so much!!
Hello Andrea, the little container that holds the sensor there is a needle inside there so you have to dispose of it in a sharps container. That's what my nurse told me today. I started the libre 2 today.
Beautiful and refreshing face you have. Definitely interesting to see such a major difference in reading. I’ve been using over the counter reli on, so it should be interesting to see the difference if I can get one of these on my arm, lol.
Thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, for sure you want to compare and contrast the readings - but for the most part they align nicely and I only check if I feel physically very differently to what the number is reading.
Great video. Interesting to see the only difference is the alarm, definitely a useful feature. Worth mentioning that the needle doesn’t stay in the arm after applying the sensor.
@@ShesDiabetic thanks for the great content. It’s a shame all the ads on any diabetes video are these “cure diabetes with this one weird diet hack” would be nice if we could report them to RU-vid but I can’t see a way ...
I switched to the 2 about two months ago. I like the alarms, but I do get a lot more of the “try again in 10 minutes” alerts than I ever did with the 1.
@justin Matthews I sometimes get that message, too! I called the customer service number and was told that sometime when we sleep/shower/move around a lot it'll move the sensor a bit and cause the sensor to "go offline". To stop this, I use waterproof adhesive patches over the sensor. Also, placing the sensor in a more secured area of your body helps. I hope I answered your question.
@@catbutte4770 Thanks! This makes sense, as it often occurs when I stand up from sitting awhile. I did the adhesive for a few weeks after first getting the Libre in 2019 but soon tired of them.
hay hllo may dareme come to uk and meat to and liveng in uk and job hime uk she halp hime coming in uk yea fiand hime job i am tayp one diabtice four year mane razen in come to our taretmant
I always put my sensor on and leave it to settle for 24 hours before activating it, the readings tend to be more accurate after doing this, although, it seems to be fairly well known, by medical professionals too, that the Libre tends to read around one m/mol lower than actual levels. Were you using Dexcom previously? Just wondering why you’ve gone back to the Libre.
She did a review a month ago with Dexcom and the tSlimx2. At the end of the video she mentioned the alarm the pump was giving her. Assuming it was a low glucose alarm from the pump via Dexcom. Guessing she is running both CGM's concurrently. Do not believe Libre will talk to the Tandem pump.
Interesting - and thank you so much for sharing! I'm still using the Dexcom G6- but just wanted to try the Libre 2 out as I've had a lot of requests from people to try the system out and thought - I should! My review video should be coming out in the next few weeks!! I will absolutely include your comment about letting the sensor settle in there for 24 hours before use - thank you!!
You're spot on Dwight! Also this gives me the ability to loosely compare the G6 and FSL 2 within my review of the FSL 2 which will be coming out in the next few weeks!
I have been a Type 1 for over 50 years and not dead yet!! I received a free Sencer and reader from the diabetic nurse here in New Zealand. Sadly, replacement Sencers are not funded here and are really very expensive. I must admit, I really like it, great to get instant results without finger pricking and test strips. I think it will enable better control and less danger of low readings at night. The alarms are very welcome, but I only use the low alarm.
With the freestyle Libre you need to use their app. I use the Dexcom G6 so I use that app. Whichever app connects to your CGM I say! I hope this helps answer your question? 🙏🏻
Oh gosh - that's so annoying! I'm so sorry to hear that! As a rule of thumb I always try to shower before putting my sites on. When you first introduce that adhesive and then out a whole load of heat and steam on it, it can cause the adhesive to break down way too quickly. I've found that if I have a good 12 hours (24 even better) before doing heat/steam/shower the site stays on without a problem. But definitely report this to Freestyle Libre Customer Service because they should replace the sensor you lost in this incident!!
I’m type 2. I really hope my insurance covers the libre. I don’t often have the time at work to stop and check my blood sugar every time I feel low. Sometimes, I just go ahead and treat it without checking my sugar. I’d rather not have to do that.
Me too! I move a lot when I'm at work and it is very stressful everytime I'm low. My doctor told me most of the insurances covers the sensor only when you are using insulin but, I recently was told from someone who's taking medication and their insurance covers half of the price and that's awesome! I think my doctor was lying in a way. Next appointment I'm gonna talk to her, I used the sensor for 14 days thanks to a dear friend and it is very cool!
Oh gosh - I’m so sorry to hear that! I would encourage you to contact Abbott ASAP - their customer care team is excellent and hopefully they can help you!!!
My son who was diagnosed this year has just done the 2 week trial, loved having it and it lasted the whole two weeks. Hopefully we will be getting the funded by the NHS (UK) in the very near future :)
When I was deciding between Dexcom and Libre back in 2018, I had first through about Libre because (silly, yes) swiping looked cool and it was cheaper, as I recall. In the end, I went with Dexcom because of the alarms, which I need because of hypo-unawareness. I love Dexcom and will be sticking (no adhesive pun intended) with it, but the high and low alarms with the new Libre, might make for a tougher call. (Or would have had it been on the Libre then.)
I TOTALLY get the concept of swiping looking/feeling cooler - no judgment here!!! I think hands down the Dexcom is the better choice, as it provides so so so much more data an customization, not to mention accuracy, but I also understand that sadly, it's not in everyone's budget - bottom line - I'm just thrilled you have something that works well for you! That's what it's all about I think!!! 💙🥰
Money is always an issue so Libre2 is a winner for me. My doctor was telling me she had a patient that had a reading of 129 on her Dexacom6 but the lab she drew was 375. So I guess there àre always issues.
Thanks! I installed mine today along with you! I don't have diabetes, but I'm hypoglycemic, so I was a little hesitant, but you're right: I didn't even feel the insertion at all, so I had to tug at it a little to make sure it was attached.
I got to know about Ambrosia's NightRider Blucon from our endo and started using it with libre pro sensor in place of the reader. And it simplified our life. I don't have to scan ever or prick to get my son's readings and I get alarms whenever his glucose levels are out of range. I can also connect it directly to Apple watch to get standalone readings. Libre sensor and Blucon combo has made managing diabetes easier for me! I surely recommend!!
This is fantastic! It’s all about finding a solution that works best for YOU and your caretakers! So so so glad to hear you’ve found this!!! And thank you so much for sharing this with us here! 💙
Hi Andrea. I have been diabetic for over thirty years, I eventually got my Libra2 last week on the NHS, so luckily I don’t have to pay the hight price for it. Having an iPhone I loaded the app and now I can see my readings at any time without having to scan the reader which I have put back in the box in case I need it in the future. As long as your phone is near by, it continuously monitors your readings.it really is great, and I can keep my levels in the green section very easily, and my fingers are very happy not to be pricked numerous times a day. Thanks for a great video.
Been type 1 since I was 7 years old. That was 65 years ago. Have gone thru many systems to testing my urine sugar using test tube and tablets, then using urine strips, then blood sugar with finger sticks, and now with the Libre Free Style 2 system. Just applied the first sensor about 45 minutes ago. We'll see how it goes. Hope to give my fingers a rest.
OH MY GOSH!! YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Oh how I'd love to interview you - you've seen so much and clearly are an incredible warrior! I hope this does indeed give your fingers a very VERY well deserved break!!! 💙
Hi Andrea, Thankyou so much for this video. I was so excited to see you were showing the freestyle libre 2. They will be available in Australia in the next couple of months, so looking forward to that. To have alarms will be amazing , compared to my freestyle libre 1, that I have been using for the last 3 years. No more night fears of sneaky bad hypos. 👍❤ (I ended up getting some normality back with my highs by having low carb meals, so have been able to drop long acting insulin back again)
Hi Rex! Oh, I'm excited for you guys to get the Freestyle Libre 2 as well! I totally understand the nighttime hypo fear, as I take great comfort from my Dexcom alarms overnight especially. Also great to hear that you've been able to blunt the highs, that's super wonderful! Fingers crossed the Libre 2 comes to Australia sooner rather than later! 🙏🏻
Hey Andrea. I'm finally coming up to the end of my Freestyle Libre Sensor and I'm now waiting for an upgrade by my doctor to the Freestyle Libre 2 Sensor. I believe this will make my life so much better due to the fact that I will now be notified when my levels are high or low.
@@ShesDiabetic Thank you very much for your kind 🙏response. Dear Andrea which one would you recommend to purchase Libra 1 or 2 ? This my first time and I'm not sure. Thank you, you are a wonderful person. ❤
Thank you so much for your excellently explained video. I have had diabetes type 1 for 46 years and have had all varying types of finger pricking devices (some I swear were a form of torture). I even remember before finger pricking when I used to go off litmus sticks with urine but that gave an answer that was very belated, so not at all efficient. Anyway I have just this morning received a letter telling me that I’m going to be sent a freestyle libre 2 on the British NHS. Of course the first thing I did was come to this video to see how things are done. Brilliant - thank you. Brenda, Cheshire, England.
i just love your videos, I love how you wake up, and decide to create these to help people in the way you can. Your videos are funny to see, you have such a great charisma and motivation for living, that's all what you need in this life. Never change! We need you.
Oh my GOODNESS - what a BEAUTIFUL COMMENT!! Thank you so so much Enrique!! You are too kind!!! Honestly, I love making these video and it's comments like yours that just blow my mind - thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Most people don't believe I have had Type 1 since 1968. That is 56 years of my life. I did things very much as advised. No sugar, exercise, etc... Questions Hope so. things are different with these readers and life should be very different. Maybe I'll check back. Thanks
My dad has one of these (Type 2, 78 years old) I perform 24/7 care for him so I've become failure with the device. His reader, while continent can be a bit annoying, especially if he goes out and forgets it. It makes a particular sound when his blood sugar gets out of whack and the fact this sound is annoying and the sound it makes I've started calling his reader "Justin" That's short for "Justin Beeper." Just so you know, this name was *NOT* inspired by any singer, song writer, or any other sort of entertainer.
If mine was 54 I would be crawling to the kitchen, my problem is I'm used to mine high, my A1C is 11.7 which is bad bad bad, but I can't just take a bunch of insulin because I'm a labile/brittle diabetic, I am very sensitive to insulin
Ok, I just Subscribed. Shouldn't be long before Abbott is knocking on your door. They couldn't hire a better spokesperson, you are smart, gorgeous and about to be a star. Kudos, however that needle scared the crap outta me. Plus I'm wondering about the price of sensors? I understand there is a new Libra 3 out now too. Today is 11/15/22
Thank you so much for this video! Although this video is 2 years old, it is my first time trying freestyle libre 3 and you gave me the confidence to go for the insertion. I was so nervous of the needle but in the end it didn’t hurt! Thank you again 🩵⭐️
My father was visiting, he’s usually up around 7, at noon I got worried, he was comatose, called the ambulance, his sugar was .7, was released the next day, so I went and got him a libre 2, I was gonna get up every 2 hours to check on him, but the machine had a warning you can set anywhere, so great, I had a fairly good sleep, I thought because he had that machine everything was fine, at 10:00 I went into the bedroom, yup was rolled up, couldnt talk, flailing around, couldn’t move his left side, grabbed the LIBRE 2, error, it could of killed my father, ambulance again, bs 0.7 AGAIN, since that second 0.7 incident he stares into space, which he never did before, so I am very bitter at Libre 2, I was very upset with this machine, and just want people to be very cautious.
Can it be used with multiple phones? My mom doesn't have a cell phone and she doesn't speak English. Technology isn't for her but her doctor prescribed this for her. 🤷♀️
Hi Andrea I know this video was a couple years old but I have a question. When you use your libre 2 does it give you false readings? For instance I just scanned my libre and it was 106 but when I did a finger stick it was 124. I'm going to give it the full 14 days and see if this continues. If it does I'm going to have to call libre and see if I can get a new monitor. ☹️ I'm hoping I don't need a new one because I didn't have to pay for this one. My doctor's office gave me the one I have now. Thank you for your videos and I hope to hear from you
Why are you nervous? Maybe because you are about to jam a needle into your arm. They say one symptom of rabies is anxiety. But I wonder, is the anxiety from the virus, or the suspicion (or knowledge) that you have an incurable, untreatable disease that has as near to 100% lethality as you can get? I'm pretty sure if I suspected (or knew) that I had rabies I'd feel more than just a bit anxious.
I just got mine yesterday. I am checking with my phone app. But it keeps saying sensor is on but will not read my glucose. Anyone know what im doing wrong??
Too bad they didn't design it to be truly compatible with the tens of thousands of blind diabetics out there, which to me is inexcusable. You must line up the marks to apply the sensor, and the reader that comes with the system does not "speak" the readings out. Even my TV speaks to me, but a device that is necessary for me to obtain good diabetic blood sugar control does not speak to me? Signal to speech technology is everywhere, but not in a CGM?? Even my $29 portable HAM radio speaks to me, as does my watch, etc. So how is it that the medical equipment manufacturers can make such a gross oversight as to make a CGM inaccessible to the blind?
It differs country to country. In the UK you can buy it directly from their website, I believe in the US you need a prescription. I hope this helps in a small way! Not sure where you are so I can't say for certain for you!
Thank you for this video! I just got my sensors, first time ever using anything and I was absolutely terrified! I watched you put it on a couple times while holding the sensor to my arm. I was saying 1-2-3 I’m scared lol I finally did it and was really surprised it didn’t hurt! You’re right, the noise was the scary part lol I feel so silly I was scared now 😂 thank you for helping me put on my first sensor 😊❤
Hi. I've been type 1 since 1966 . 57 years. I've been using the Freestyle libra for at least 4 years and today I recieved the Libra 2. I don't find anything different. Color and sound is all I find different.
Hi thank you so much for this video! I was so nervous and confused about the directions in the pamphlet but this helped me so much!! Also did anyone else also not get a reader with their first sensor?
I am already on my 3th libre 2 sensor and I can't get the alarm to work on my phone. We didn't get the updated reader because I always use my OnePlus 6T. I also can not find a lot of information as to why the alarm won't function. There's no procedure to be found that tells me what I am doing wrong. All the phone settings (location, bluetooth, nfc are on and the battery optimalisation is off) are set correct. The app tells me it should work, but it doesn't. Very frustrating. My phone is compatible with the app and I never had any issues beforehand.. Somebody else with this kind of problem? Still trying to fix it.
Thank you very much, just got my LIB 2 cant wait to start 50 years with diabetes first time using something advanced as this way back used urine too check spillage of sugar thur the kidney not very accurate, thanks again
Thank you so much. I’ve been dreading insertion but I just did it with you and it was nothing. Actually a little tingling a few minutes after but fine.
Thank you Andrea , 😊this really helped my first go with this , noting now , my free trial I only received the sensor , nothing else , no reader , not even a wipe 🤷🏻♀️
Hello.... I'm a diabetic and I have some disability issues where I can poke a finger and my insurance won't approve the libra and I really need it... how did u say u received a free one?
You need to wait for 10 minutes before making the comparison readings between the sensor and finger pricking method. FS Libre 2 sensors take results from the interstitial fluid whereas the finger pricking method takes it from blood itself straight away. 10 minutes are enough for these two results to be adjusted to each of them.
