Awesome Build Rich. Thank you. Been looking at one of these for quite some time now. It's on my list. Love the mods and ideas. Great Job, Skip Skip-Built RC. Happy Flying my Friend.
Rich my wife hates your videos because my hangar grows every time you do one 😂😂 great stuff, keep up the good work. Thanks for the email RE the Tigercat too-answered all my questions spot on.
Famous last words... 'I'm not anticipating too many changes on the airplane'. Ha ha... little did he realise. Great mods Rich, you have an excellent problem solving mind. I have mine now, and am following many of your tips.
FYI the pod on the underside of the nose is the Tomcat's TCS (Television Camera Set). This allowed the Tomcat crew to visually identify targets at up to 60 miles for large aircraft. It was also slaved to the radar so where one pointed the other pointed also. Late model Tomcats had both optical and infrared capability.
I will try to get it up today sometime we did the 1st flight yesterday and it went very well:) I will probly put out several flight videos of this plane.
I tried something different with the battery tray in my P51, as the battery was too large to get the straps around: Velcro. I put velcro on the battery, and velcro on the tray. Together with the cockpit pressing on the battery, it makes it fit really nicely, had no problems in the 30 flights so far
NE WAS USS RANGER for our deployment in VA-198 1969/70. A6A Intruders. There were two F-4 Squadrons aboard to make sure we could do our job more safely so to speak.
Great Video and Tips ! I am putting together my 8s F-22 Raptor Adding Wing Lights , After Burner Lights . Maybe Brakes ? This F-14 Tomcat is making my mouth drew !! My wife will kill me ! That's Life, BEAUTIFUL ! Love your work, keep it up . THX BEN V.
I would also recommend using Blue Loctite on the screws that interface with metal, like the 2 that screw into the shaft on the Taeilerons. I am surprised they didn't use turnbuckles for the swing connection on the wings, it would make adjusting them while they are installed simple. Thumbs Up for some excellent tips and work arounds
I have the bundle from Motion RC with the Futaba T6K Radio. Is there anyplace that shows the receiver hookups for that receiver and the F14? It looks to me like it needs more than 8 channels, but they say it can be done with 7. Any help would be appreciated as I'm building this for someone else and the directions aren't clear.
Hi Rich, I realy enjoyed watching this video and found it very inspirational. To such an extent I am incorporating most of your ideas into my current F14 Tomcat build. I have set up, through my transmitter the required conditions to allow tailerons when the wing is swept and ailerons when its forward. I have never before flown a model with tailerons. Can you advise me on how much movement/throw I need for the tailerons. I have checked many sources but can not find this information. Thank you in advance ................ Andrew Dunan
Awesome F14 build video. On the battery tray, 3-ply you said, what thickness did you use and where is the best place your buying this material? Most places I've seen you have to buy 4' sections.
Nice video, Rich. I had it up when I built mine. Trying to figure out best place for the admiral receiver and satellite. Rich, any reception issues with your placement that you show in the video? It just seems really close to a rat’s nest of wires and the batteries. I’m using a DX9 and the admiral 10ch RC as well.
Congratulations on the video, it is really helpful. I still have some deep doubts. 1. My model has servo leads coming from the wings with labels saying Ailerons and Flaps. Wher must I connect them? 2. I also have servo leads coming from the from the nose gear, where must I connect it? many thanks!!! Carlos
Great Video, Rich!! Did you ever get those battery trays made for purchase? I'm about to start building mine but I don't want to do the first step until I know if its possible to buy that battery tray. If not, then I'll keep building! I did order those retract braces from Raven Rock I watched in your other video.
i just bought 2 f-14 tomcats and would like to the the floor that being shown in this video where could i have one done instead of making i realdy that this one
Hi Rich, Nice build video. Like the way you developed your mods and the reasons for them. Looking forward to the flight video. Do you happen to know the name of the gorgeous model used in the pictures? :-)
I was trying not to modify anything and keep it as close to stock as possible... however, the new floor just makes the entire plane so much better. That's my girlfriend/FlyGirl Aimee in the photo:)
My first flight on mine i used two pulse 5000's 65c rated batteries. If you use those 4000's i would put them a little further forward. Your an intelligent guy. Just to give you a heads up. I had my back battery right up against the back of the fuselage. The forward battery right smack dab in the middle of the bottom trey. I also took out the lower trey as well and laid them down parallel. Just like you are doing now. See you are a very intelligent dude. Great minds think a like. However i didnt do any carving.i just used a shorter piece of trey than you did. Put the 4000's forward. The big 5000's can go as far back as possible. No disrespect intended. You know your stuff brother. I hope im not offending you. Not my intention. You are one of my favs brother.
I also stiffened up my canopy with some flat carbon fiber shafts. That was a great call. It can break if pulled wrong. Fixed it before it became a problem. Welcome to the tomcat family brother. I was wondering when you were going to dive in.
No man... it's all good info:) So far mine balances perfectly at the CG in the manual.... Have you balanced yours at a different CG that works better? :)
I just felt she flew a bit better slightly on the nose heavy side. She gets this weird nose up attitude if she isnt a bit nose heavy. Like i said brother you are a pro at this stuff. I have learned most of what i know from you. Im still a noob. Only in my 4th year of flying. Like i said to you in one of your previous vids. You inspire me man. Nosey worked better for me with this sexy kitty cat. I am curious to see how she does on those 4000's. I have always wanted to know how she does on lighter packs. Flys way better cleaned up as well. I recommend full spam flaps. Not to mention it doesnt look right when the flaps are not full spam. Like i said man i look up to you brother. Super good pilot. You will figure it out super fast i just know it.
Hi Rich, I'm in the process of following your set up recommendations. At present I'm having a hell of a time trying to program my Spektrum Dx9 and 9 Channel AS3X receiver to work in sinc with the F14's control board. Do you set the model type with single servos on aileron's, elevator and rudder? Currently when I move the ailerons to full deflection, the wings start to sweep. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
In the stock configuration, everything runs thru the control board. You only have one elevator lead & one aileron lead running from the control board into the receiver. If you are going to split the ailerons and do the full span flap setup, you must plug each aileron lead from each aileron servo & plug each servo into 2 separate AUX channels and mix them with the aileron function....
@@RCINFORMER Thanks Rich... I think I'm trying to do too much in the initial set up (AS3X receiver, Spektrum App, gyro, wing sweep / flap mixes etc). I'm going to start again with a new air plane set up, and focus on getting the basics working as a first step (using the Freewing board). Then build out from there.
@@richardwylie07 What I did with mine is I just set it up in the stock configuration and the 1st flight I didn't do any wing sweeping... just fly it like a normal airplane and get it trimmed in tuned. it's actually very easy to fly easier than most airplanes... Just fly it with the wings extended and it's a very fun airplane to fly:)
Hi Rich. Got most of the programming sorted. Thank you for your advice. One last question. I want to create a mix to disable the flaps (and ailerons if possible) when the wings are swept. How can I do that on my Spekrum DX9? Thanks again. Richard
I know the Corsair is being retooled .... & possibly the P-51... probably not the P-47 since FMS makes the 1500mm 6s razorback.... not sure when they are gonna be out:(
williewideback is not really great assembly guid, instead more than 20 minutes speaking about battery placement or to much information about easy parts best is to build it from part one until part end , than will be really more useful and understanding for beginners ..
I just did a fitment test on my F-14 tomcat that I got from freewing with the batteries. In stock and figuration what I have in a modify the battery bay 2 6000mah 100c High performance Zeee batteries fit perfect. The battery bay is still the same as from the factory the canopy fit perfect everything fits perfect there’s nothing popping up there’s no connection with the canopy to the fuselage issue I just wanted to share that maybe mine is different but I need to look at the specs on the batteries and see how long they are but there’s no problem with the canopy sitting perfect and flush.. and no the jet is not fully assembled yet but everything is sitting perfect held together perfect but it up to each other perfect with no issues I still wanna reinforce the fuselage to the main body with another carbon spar and extend that wood plate to the bottom battery just for more support but like I said the 6000 100c fit perfect.. if there is a reason why it has to be done with the longer or larger batteries to sit at the bottom then I guess I’ll do it but if I don’t have to make any cuts to modify it and it fits perfect I don’t see why I should make any changes but let me know what you think I would really appreciate that.. And I love what you do on your channel.. 😁
I like spectrum iam just starting into turbine jets an everyone is telling me to stay away from Spectrum due to signal loss an so on iam torn on what way to setup my jet an iam not yet real nolighble about this , I do like the idea of as3x & safe
Yes it is a mixing board but some people do plug the ailerons in to separate channels and mix them such that the ailerons shut off with the wings swept back:) I may make that change in the future
@@RCINFORMER I forgot to add. I will be removing all mixing boards and creating my mixes from the transmitter. These mixes won't be difficult to create. I plan on creating "full length" flaps as well as limiting aileron deflection to "up" only when wings are swept back. Obviously the flaps will be disengaged when full wing sweep is active.
Teh worst part of building rc planes is, once you build it, someone or the other is gonna want to break it for you. Just a week ago I finished building my F8F bearcat. It flew awesome, then my friend asked me if she could fly it, and uhhhh... she stalled the plane and destroyed it ,I had to pay for the window of some quarter my plane crashed into, too. My advice to rookies: dont let an idiot fly for you.
@@RCINFORMER appreciate the thanks, have been a subscriber for years and have made purchases on your reviews and look forward to the bell that a new vid is up
Top Gun,, today gentlemen, we begin to learn Aerial Combat Tactics. You may be humbled by our squadron of T-5’s, A-4’s but our goal is to produce top flite combat pilots. Fire and forget missiles a backseater can use, you will learn to use cannons.
I feel the need the need for....The gorgeous girl to be in at least one video!! Don't get me wrong ducked fans and retracts are interesting but come on!!! Once!?!?
Good video. It would be a great video if it wasn't soooooo loooong. No need to be so repetitious in your explanation, this video only needed to be about 20 minutes long. I would hate to have to watch it "again", to find out how many times you say "again".
I use a 5000 on mine. I am a little confused about why you deleted my comments. I hope you understand that I did put it together, and yet, it is not easy to assemble. Your last video made me laugh because I think that you should research some of the terminology. Stuff like you said, like "Tailerons", and "Stabilierons", are made up. As a former Navy Plane Captain, who was in a F14 Squadron, I do know what I am talking about. The wires are the biggest problem.
Uncle Bob's RC it’s a fairly junior enlisted maintainer position. They give the pilots all the hand signals during startup and shutdown. Not a pilot.... Also, as a real navy pilot myself, I can also confirm that they are called “stabilators” on the real jets.
