I remember getting this and Motley Crue girls girls girls the same day back in 87! I had went to get the Motley album, but my older brother who took me to the mall said hey Ace has an album out! I honestly forgot all about the motley album and ran and grab the album and cassette! We jammed out to it on the way home! My brother has since passed away, I hadn’t thought about that moment in yrs! Thank you for posting, it brought back a great memory for me! As for the album; 3.5 stars! Dolls keeps it from being a solid 4 lol! Trouble walkin is one you should cover sometime! Second sighting is also a good record, not great! If he had put words are not enough on it, I think it would have done better! Great review!

Great review!! I've always loved this album. I saw the band play in a small club on this tour. Ill never forget seeing a highly intoxicated Ace using a wall to stay upright as he walked into the backstage room before the show. I honestly thought there was no way he was going to be able to perform. Yet, to my surprise, the band hits the stage about an hour later and Ace puts on an absolutely killer show.

Could not believe how good this album was when I first heard it. Stands alongside kiss albums. Would be his peak along with 78 album. No albums as good after I think.

I loved this album when it came out. Another great review man🤙 not an album you see discussed too often (even in KISS circles).

Ace has always been my favorite member of the original four. Mainly due to his solo album(My fav of the 4) with KISS, and content after leaving KISS. Great songs while in KISS as well.

Excellent, thorough review. Jonny Z (Megaforce Records owner) outlines why Frehley's Comet failed to go gold in his book - Heavy Tales: The album had sold around 475,000 copies, so the label started a promotion called Race for Ace to push the release over 500k. They sent out T-shirts, stickers etc. to retailers, but all that did was highlight to the retailers where they were sitting on stock of the album and instead of pushing product they started to returning the records and tapes to get their money back ....... so the numbers "sold" actually declined as a result of the promotion. I once went to a Chip Taylor & Carrie Rodriguez show. Chip was the co-writer of Rock Soldiers, is Angelina Jolie's uncle and worked at Polygram when Kiss released The Elder. Lovely generous guy who spent 30 minutes with me after the show chatting about his experiences with Ace, Gene and Paul. Personally, I love my Dolls. Bought the album on release day but I already knew some of the songs from bootleg tapes of the 1985 Frehley's Comet shows (Breakout, Dolls, We Got Your Rock and Stranger in a Strange Land), Rock Soldiers and Into the Night had already been played on the radio. I also already knew the 707 song Megaforce, so hearing the reworked version was a bit of a surprise. For me it's an album I can play from start to finish but half of the songs aren't as good as demo tracks that didn't appear (Audio Video, Give it to me Anyway, Back on the Streets). In 1987 I was most disappointed by Stranger .., We Got Your Rock and Love Me Right - they all seemed bog-standard filler, and the covers and the instrumental made it feel like it wasn't the artistic product of an inspired and focused musician.

I think this album sounds more like classic Kiss than anything Kiss did in the 80s.

I never bought the Frehly's Comet album, but I had a ticket for Iron Maiden/Frehly's Comet Back in 1988. I really wanted to see Iron Maiden, but unfortunately the concert was cancelled just before the day of the show.

I agree not as strong as the 78 or Trouble Walking but overall it’s good. Especially when it came out the same year Kiss did Crazy Nights. Ace blew that away!!

Hi Sean. Another Amazing Video. You really get into the details. That's why I love your Videos so much. I have a question that maybe I shouldn't ask you here. But I don't know how else to contact you. When Gene and Paul decided to continue with Touring and returning to the Studio for new Albums , why did they choose Tommy over Bruce ? Bruce had already been with them for several years , so that had always bothered me. I hope you're doing well and staying safe. And again , your Videos are always Kick-Ass !! 🎸🎸🎸

I think Tommy was there doing bts stuff and it was just an easy transition to slide him in when things didn’t work out with Ace.

@@SeanBlumenshine Ok. That makes sense. Thanks. And one more thing , Sean . Could you please explain to me how I become a Patreon Member of yours ? I'm a Guitarist and there are two Guitar Teachers I follow without missing any Videos of theirs. Like I'm sure I haven't missed any of yours because when I discovered your RU-vid Channel I went all the way back to the beginning of your Videos so I didn't miss anything. I did the same with the two Guitar Teachers. I've asked them both how does Patreon work and got no answer. So as soon as you explain it to me I'll be one of your members. If they wanted more members they would have answered me , right ? So you'll be the only Channel I support. I didn't mean to ramble on so long. Sorry.

Always sounded muddled to me except for Anton's drums(👍) and Howorth's keyboards (👎). If you put this one and Second Sighting together you might have enough decent songs for a solid album. Trouble Walking was probably closer to what Ace wanted with Frehley's Comet even though it was listed as a solo record. Fortunately Ace is clean and sober now and the music he's released since 2009 with Anomaly has been better than any post-Ace Kiss album except Revenge
