Peter's singing is really good on this album...The guy pours his heart out on I can't stop the Rain...This is New York , Yo...Classic...He's doing his kind of music...Don't forget he was the oldest member and he has different likes in music...People bash his drumming but every piece of vintage live footage I pull up shows him kicking ass and taking names...He was perfect for KISS...Probably why they picked him...Love you Petey boy...
I know I’m in the minority on this, but I LOVE this record. I was 10 years old when my grandparents gave me this as a birthday gift. When I first heard it, it just wasn’t my cup of tea and dismissed it. As the years have rolled on by, I’ve come back to this record and as the older I’ve become, the more my taste for things I didn’t like before, I like now and other things that I once loved, I don’t so much these days. Paul’s album will always be my favorite due to personal reasons. One, he was my favorite and that was my first ever record I ever got. Paul’s album has many great childhood memories attached to it and even today, that record still takes me back to a better place in time. Peters record has moved up to number two for me when laying out the solo albums in the order that I like. Love your videos, keep up the great work.
I listened to this record for the first time ever today. Given the only reason I've never bothered with it is because of the shit canning it has copped over the last 40 odd years, I was flabbergasted to discover that I thoroughly enjoyed Peter's album. I was even more stunned to find that there wasn't a single track I didn't like or found cringe worthy. Considering the man was at one of his lowest ebbs when he did this record, it impressed me no end to hear Peter give his vocal chops a good workout, belting out some good old fashioned blues, soul, R&B, funk and straight up rock n roll, with some simple yet heartfelt ballads that sounded at times like those of 80's hair metal. If you're expecting this to sound like one quarter of KISS, don't bother, but if you want to hear a guy taking the opportunity to do his own thing, and having a blast doing it behind a solid and varied set of songs, this record is well worth the time. This is also regardless of what you think of Peter Criss as a musician or human being.
Peter's album is not that bad and I am tired of the bashing. It's an R&B album and not a hard rock album. That has always been his style. Peter's songs on the KISS albums were always the rock n' roll, R&B or ballad break surrounded by hard rock or proto heavy metal. Peter kept KISS from straying too far away from rock's African-American roots. The album was basically marketed to the wrong audience.
Most people are too stupid to figure this out. I place it a solid 3rd behind Ace and Paul. Genes is absolute rubbish. I actually listen to Peters more so than Paul’s.
"Rock's African American roots"? Keep believing that lie. RNR comes from Appalachian Blue grass and also has roots in European folk music from hundreds of years ago.

Peter’s is my favorite album to listen to but Paul’s is the best of the 4 in terms of structure, songs and production. Peter’s is 2nd Ace is 3rd and Gene is a hodgepodge of good and bad songs that don’t fit together coherently whatsoever!!!
It’s worth listening to for Peter’s vocals alone. I can’t stop the rain, Tossin’ and Turnin’, Hooked on rock and roll are all good for me. He released the wrong songs. Compared to expectations Gene’s was the worst solo album. How much did people really expect from Peter? By comparison they expected a lot from Gene and he did not deliver so it’s all relative.
Kiss the Girl Goodbye is actually a great ballad with brilliant guitar work. I think Gene Simmons solo album is actually the worst of the bunch not Peter's.
His album isn't hard rock. It has a good groove, and the songs are well written. Was it an album in the "KISS style"? No. I like the album for what it is. Others are welcomed their opinions, so am I.
Peter's talent and voice added alot to the KISS sound but this album was the farthest thing from KISS. Although it wasn't what anyone expected its still an essential part of the collection.
I bought all four and this is the only one i've bought on all formats, ace was rock pauls was too much like kiss genes was crap & this is the one i still listen to.
This one is my favorite solo album out of the bunch. Ik fellow Kiss fans would scratch their heads when they hear me say that but it’s my opinion. Gene’s solo album was the worst.

I was disappointed when this record came out. It was the first of the solo albums my brother and I bought because we figured Gene and Paul's were going to be the same stuff we've heard before. We wanted Peter, his wild drumming and howling, front and center. We didn't get that. No baby driver. No Hooligan. Lame song after lame song that sounded so 70s. Over the years however, I've come to appreciate it more. Easy Thing is powerful and one of my favorite non-Ace solo album songs. I also enjoy playing drums to this album. It's a good cool down album after a hard workout from Alive. The big difference though, I play the way Peter should have played...front and center.. It's fun when you do that. the album has two other strong points. #1 It makes Ace's album that much sweeter to hear. He gives what we wanted. No holds barred guitar licks...and also...no holds barred drum fills. Anton delivered what we wanted on Peter's album...making Ace's the best. #2 While Rock n Roll over was KISS at its best, if *every* album was Rock n Roll Over, that would get monotonous and boring. It's good for a band to take a left turn once in awhile to give something different. Something to wash the pallet. That way, when the next Rock n roll over album finally comes out, you're refreshed and ready for it. Probably why Revenge did so well. Anyway, Peter's album is a nice curve ball when you're in the mood for it.
I have loved this album since it came out in 78, this record along with the other solo albums are a true piece of history that makes the Kiss catalogue unique, before they went chasing trends in the 80's. What a hard working creative unit they were back then.
It's the worst Kiss solo 78 albuns as well as Gene's. His upcoming solo album "Out of control" is also terrible! In my opinion he was the best voice out of the four kiss members back in the 70's. His drumming was also powerfull, but unfortunately he can't shine without Paul, Gene and Ace. That's my opinion

It makes his 1978 Album, look like Quadrophenia. I threw the CD in the garbage. My $12 be damned. Paul is ( was ) a WAY better singer than Peter. Gene is a better singer than Peter, as well. Peter is tone deaf and would scream on the earlier records. All he has for singing, is that raspy, Kim Carnes, Bonnie Tyler Voice. A mediocre singer and a mediocre drummer. Peter isn't a rock n roll guy and that is why he was always the wrong drummer for KISS.

Gene’s was hot garbage. Peter’s actually had some highlights; Kiss the Girl Goodbye and I Can’t Stop the Rain are two of them. It’s a tip of the hat to his musical background. Of course, Paul’s and Ace’s are really great records, Peter’s is a distant third, and Gene’s is a no show.
I like Don't You Let Me Down... I do, good tune. But one ballad was enough. Let's hear some power chords and riff & boogie for God sakes ! Leslie West, Ace Frehley, Mark Knopfler, Steve Miller, Billy Gibbons, Robbie Krieger, Joe Walsh. This ( PC Kiss 1978 ) was bubble gum machine music. Laverne & Shirley music.
@@elvisparker4691 the problem with Peter's album is that he was a swing drummer who didn't love rock and roll nearly as much as KISS fans do. As a song writer he's closer to Neal Sedaka than Pete Townsend. It's a different world musically. However, it's what made his drumming so unique in the hard rock world. You might not like the music he made, but it was better music than anything Gene put on his album. That's not saying a lot, but it's saying something LOL
Stunning and masterful cover art! Unfortunately, the whole record sounds like a demo reel. It's like some sh***y disorganized notebook. Few of the songs are developed. Poncia was a very skilled producer and still this record is an uninspired heap. How is that even possible? Lazy, careless, pile of cliches and memes. On par with that terrible door knob record or music from the door knocker or the chosen boy knocking on the door...If there were such a thing as music-malfeasance, you would be entitled to a huge settlement for simply having to review this record. Kudos to you for doing what the people on this project refused to do: you invested your attention, interest, and energy to deliver a sincere and compelling point of view/experience for your audience. Agreed that this is the worst thing under the Kiss brand. The fact that it's not a rock album doesn't help. I love Peter's vocals on Kiss tunes like Hard Luck Woman and Black Diamond and i wish he understood that singing a song or two per album was his contribution. This album just doesnt work for me.
Paul’s was better lyrically, musically and every way else. Just because there’s heavy guitars doesn’t mean Ace’s album was the best unless that’s how shallow your musical tastes go. I mean you honestly think “wiped-out” is a better song than “Tonight you belong to me”?!?!?! Or “I’m in need of Love” is better than “It’s Alright” if you really believe those songs are better than Paul’s than you have obviously overdosed on the “Blue Kool-aid”!!!! Lmfao 🤣
Fair review. I was a kid when I bought this and maybe that clouds my judgement due to sentimental reasons. I dig the album and think there are some solid tunes here. The older I get the more I appreciate it.
I was 13 years old and a rabid KISS fan when this album came out. I stole a cassette copy from a record store. I somehow managed to get the cassette out of the plastic bracket thing it was in without the store employee hearing or seeing what I was doing. I had to laugh when Sean said Peter's solo album sold the least amount of copies because I certainly didn't pay for my copy.
I think you told me about Vinny Vincent's high morals and bargain basement deals on VVI merchandise. Along with Dr Eff. I'm glad you're doing ok still.
When these albums came out, my best friend and I bought two of them. I bought Gene's album and my friend bought Ace's. We were really disappointed. We liked some of the songs on Ace's album, but really disliked Gene's. We didn't buy any others after that. I don't think I have even heard Peter's or Paul's. After all these years I should go back and given them all a listen. I always loved Peter's voice as it had a uniqueness to it.

None of Peter’s solo stuff did very well and he definitely did not have that ear for a hit. With that being said i still do put this album on from time to time and relax and reminisce about a time long ago

Peter's album is way different from the other three and very un-"Kiss"-like...but that doesn't make it a bad album, he was just getting in touch with his roots, R&B, early rock & roll. Many of the songs go back to his pre-Kiss days with Chelsea, Lips; just not what the fans expected, so it went straight to the bottom of the barrel, and undeservedly.
I'd like to hear your album Sean blumenshine, you seem to think you know what is good and bad, easy to criticise from your bed room I guess. my 2 cents......Peters album is truly great, just not what fans expected so it was met with disappointment from fans in the day but over time when the fans mature they realise how good this album really is, gene's is bad, Paul's is closest to the kiss sound and very strong but aces is where kiss's sound should have evolved to, his album was far beyond it's time, you can even hear ace's influence in current artists music and production techniques. listen to some of Pink's stuff and then "what's on your mind" as an example. if Ed Sheehan did "don't you let me down" today it would be a huge hit. Peters album was never promoted properly in the day.
I almost completely disagree with this review, I think it is a great first album. I do however agree that I Can't Stop the Rain is the best song. I also believe this album is better than the Gene Simmons album. Opinions eh? Who can tell?
You are way to young to get Peter's Solo record. If you had been born in the 60's or early 70's you would have liked Peter's record. Peter's record actually was the best of the four as far as radio play (If KISS had promoted it properly. It has a ton of radio friendly songs on it) but it didn't sound "KISS" enough.
I am the biggest Peter Chris fan, I am not blind though, his solo album was not that good!!! But, I think he was the most underrated drummer ever period!!! From 74-78 he was fantastic, and I love when people argue that fact!!! I dare anyone to U-tube any old school Kiss and tell me Peter was not fantastic and amazing!!! His drum solos were very good as well, and the late great Neil Pert god rest his soul said 🙏 Peter was amazing and very technically sound and he never hit the drums the same way twice, which is a huge compliment from a legend like Neil!!! They were actually close, Rush opened for Kiss for a year and a half, and Neil also said Pete by far had the best voice of any drummer ever, not even close!!! Peter and Ace were amazing and underrated and underappreciated, they bailed them two delusional narcissistic assholes out, Paul and Gene are delusional!!!!
i love the album. if you weren't there in the late 70's and early 80's when all this was happening, its not likely to catch on. this stuff works if you grew up with it. its the soundtrack to some people's lives. if you think about it, if you didn't grow up being a KISS fan, almost every KISS album could be considered "lame".
I know these are your opinions and you have every right to have them. I however disagree, this album is far and away very removed from Kiss and that material. I believe that's why most did not like this album initially. Those that let it marinade and gave it a second or third chance mostly come around and take it for what it was intended Peter Criss's SOLO album different yes, but bad? not by a long shot, a very enjoyable listen. That being said Aces solo album is the best of the 4 IMO.
$5 in 1978 = $19.97 in 2020. Would I spend $20 on Ace & Paul? Sure. Gene? Maybe, if I got tipped well at the bar that week. Just listen to it, if you can make it all the way through. The hardest-core Doobie Brothers fan would listen to this and say, "Yeah, man, this is straight up C-level garbage."
I don’t understand why some people try to give bad reviews about Peter Criss solo album. For me is an excellent album and I totally disagree what this person says about his solo work.
I was told by a HUGH Peter Criss fan back in '78 that this album sucked and was worst than Genes, so I never listened to it. The little snippets of music in this review are the only time I have heard this crap. The 2nd song sounded like the beginning of a Jimmy Buffet song. WTF....he had the preposterous idea he was going to write the best of the 4 solo albums. Peter Criss is and was a ONE HIT WONDER. And even die hard Kiss fans hated Beth back then.
Too bad Peter's voice was wasted from cocaine while they were doing this album. He did hundreds of takes and THAT was the best they could get. He just doesn't sound on key for much of it. But in Peter's defense of the record on a whole, he treated this as a true solo album, not a bunch of songs that could be on a KISS album, so he did the kind of music he liked and fans hated it. Gene's album was similar, in that much of that wouldn't be heard on a KISS album. All of the songs on Paul's and Ace's albums could have been on any KISS album, lol. I Can't Stop The Rain is a dynamite song and if it were not for Peter's coked-out voice being buried in the mix, that could have been a huge hit.
I like Peter's album. It's better than Gene's. He has a great voice. With Paul Stanley doing Soul Sation thing Peter would have do that stuff better. I watched another one of your videos and you rank Kiss albums. You have Union albums ahead of Kiss albums I'm sorry that is hilarious. You are too young to really be able to judge old Kiss albums. Maybe grade 3 doors down or Creed that might be more your speed.
Peter Criss' album is okay not great. I wonder just how much he actually wrote. Peter never had a song credited to just himself as he always had a co-writer usually Stan Pendridge.
The reason why the album was so bad is because Peter was the drummer in KISS. Nobody wanted to hear his r and b. What was he thinking with that? Then he tries to do the same thing on other albums. Best thing he could have done is got guys to write killer rock songs he could use his killer rock vocals on.
This album was sooooo different than the others, but call me crazy, but that is why I liked it. Paul’s was my favorite, but peters was not the worst (I felt genes was). Just my opinion. As always great video my friend.

When I was 11 I just like every other kiss fan thought it was my least favorite. Now it’s like my favorite. I actually like all the solo albums tie for different reasons now but the Peter one is so stellar and amazing that it gives kiss’s catalog more diversity in music. I think people who bash peters album when they’re older have very limited taste in music . I feel bad for you

Eh I disagree. I'll agree its not really a kiss album since it lacks that heavy rock and metal beat were all familiar to but on it's own I think it's good. I mean it's not brilliant and I wouldn't say it's the best of the 4 but I can kind of admire it for doing it's own thing. Plus it works really well with the catman character since Peter and the catman were all about ballads and softer songs.

I honestly will say Peter's album was but far the worst . But, for s Peter album it was like Rod Stewart and Bob Seger collaborating on a disco rock album.. I do like some of the songs.. I do like "I Can't Stop The Rain" and "Easy Thing" and "Kiss The Girl Goodbye"..
I have every Kiss album except for this one. I never wanted this one. I didn't even have the desire to get it just to say "I have every Kiss album!" If you have every album of Kiss, than get Peter's. It's not terrible. It's just soft & weak. It's not like nails on a chalkboard though, like Anita Baker or Whitney Houston or Michael Bolton.

Peter's songs in KIϟϟ (Hooligan, Strange Ways, Mainline, Getaway, Dirty Livin...) are much better, than his solo-stuff. I know, that Ace has written most of them, but it's not at least Peter's fantastic, rough voice, which makes them really good. And by the way..., Ace is a famous guitarplayer, but his voice sounds very boring to me, on all of the songs he sung.
Simmons was the worse. Actually Ace and Peter's is the only one I kept. Paul well had 2 songs, Gene 1 song. Hardly albums. Lol You must being wishing upon a star
Have you ever written, recorded or produced music? Do you even play in instrument? I disagree with your review. Peter is a jazz and R&B guy. He wasn’t going to make a typical kiss record. Once you wrap your head around that, you can appreciate the album a little more.

You Matter to Me was on the radio back in 1978 but only a few weeks and it disappeared lol..It easily could of fit on the Saturday night Fever sound track or even Grease . I believe Ralph Mouth played the keyboards on this 1 jk....You hit the nail on the head with everything! Now we know why he never brought any good songs to the table in Kiss! Every song of his in Kiss was reworked by the band or producer just to make it decent..The car accident is a lie..Peter punched a glass mirror and messed his hand up badly...That's the major reason he didnt play on Dynasty. Diry livin was already recorded because it was left off his solo album and of course reworked by the band..
I'm .a.big fan of kiss. I have Every work in Vinyl and CD. when I bought the CD of the Peter Criss solo, I've never have the guts to hear this again in all this years. For people Who's die for melancólic original kiss line up...Let it in the past...this work Is a.proof of the mediocre quality of this drummer. I respect the past AND the Magic of the first years, but the Time, bad attitudes, AND overall Eric Carr put everything in the right order. When this guys Is out of.the band...what was His success? Point taken. Don't make decisions while under the influence. Sorry Peter, this was your moment to shine. Although it did have a few tracks that were cool, its not really an album that highlights your character or persona you are known for in Kiss. Ace was spot on with his solo effort.
This record is garbage. Not a single decent track. Gene's has about 3 decent songs, the rest of it is garbage as well. Paul's is the most Kiss sounding, but Ace's remains the best. If Pete was really serious about making a rock/r&b record he should have listened to the Humble Pie catalog.
