Information for NR41 - (2:10)
Sadly on New Years Eve 2023 (31/12/23) a western bound freighter was reported to have collided with a truck at a protected level crossing on the Barrier Highway, near Bindarrah, South Australia. Two train drivers were tragically kill*d in the accident and the train's front half had completely derailed and strewn all over the scene, causing near $50 million Australian Dollars in damage. The two locomotives, NR79 and NR41, were almost entirely wrecked.
(In my opinion it looked like the two of them had just been scrapped right then and there)
NR79 is almost guaranteed to be scrapped because the locomotive was flipped and the cab had been entirely separated from the engine itself. NR41 was severely damaged and I couldn't find much information on what its future looks like but I doubt it will be repaired.
Always remember to heed level crossings warning lights and bells. Trains don't take long to pass.
Rest in peace to the two drivers who died in the collision.
