Exploring the Chamonix area was something else! Tears were shed!! Having grown up in an area surrounded by large mountain ranges, we LOVE the mountains and we were not disappointed by the views we experienced in the French Alps. Connecting with nature is one of our favorite things to do, so you can imagine how relaxing and freeing it felt to be surrounding by this incredible place. If you have the chance to go, DO IT :)

I love all your videos. I'm a great fan of France. I walked from Argeles-plage to the visible tower Torre de la Massana on the Pyrenees mountains when I was 20 but also when I was 61. The 50 km far view from this tower is still my favorite hiking memory. I'm 70 years old now and my mum made double 8 movies from us around the house but also when going on vacations. They had to work extra to buy the materials. So I have myself on film starting as a 3-4 yr old. We went to the Dutch island of Terschelling, but also to Luxemburg and the South of France. When we had our kids I made 8mm video's from all kind of family events and our vacations in The Netherlands, France, Czechia and Belgium. Now we have granddaughters and still take video's of them. To have all your life documented is a big help for the memory and still a great pleasure to watch. I digitized the analog materials some 20 years ago. So be careful with all your precious video. It will be a great gift to your daughters and their offspring. The problem with the only digital material is, it disappears in a moment and is gone before you notice. I have triple copies of everything on HD and USB drives at different locations and hope it's enough to protect it. My granddaughters love to see me at their age.

i didn't know Tanner is a fearless avenger, that was exciting. the second lift frightened me too. I think Willa has the fearless avenger gene too. What I wanted to say is that there are only 2 substances that protect against insects: DEET and Icaridin. DEET is usually available only in camping specialty stores, but I have also seen Icaridin at Kaufland. By the way, a tick is always harmless if it is removed within the first 24 hours, even if it carries a virus.
@OurStorytoTell
@OurStorytoTell Год назад
Yes Tanner is! Also, we actually didn’t know that! We thought if it carried the virus & it had buried into our bodies even slightly, then there was a chance we would get it. Thanks for sharing 😊
@isana788
@isana788 Год назад
@@OurStorytoTell No, the virus can only enter the body after 24 hours. Unless you squeeze the body of the tick and push it inside. If after a few hours a kind of red circle appears around the bite wound, then you should see a doctor. Trust me, I'm a real hobby doctor from the internet, haha.

You must have to really feel your footing every step of the way on these rocky mountain trails. One false step and you could fall over the edge. Not for me! Beautiful views, though. The roller coaster was incredibly fast, and my heart was in my mouth as Willa and Risa rode on that very open chair lift.

I have checked out of curiosity. It seems that young children do not have the reflex of swallowing to equilibrate pressure in the eardrum so they can develop otitis. It is advised to stop climbing every 300-500m (depending on the age) and give them food or a drink to help. My 2 cents

What a wonderful vacation you had! Too bad you had to split up several times because of the altitude, but they were right. You shouldn't take babies higher than 1500-2000 m, and not spend too much time on an altitude that's higher than 1500 m compared with the place you normally live in. Babies can't equalize the pressure yet and their ears might hurt during a gondola ride, but the worst case actually is that they might get altitude sickness and even die from SIDS. Guess they're better safe than sorry at those cableway offices in France. (In Switzerland, they probably didn't say anything because Switzerland emphasizes personal responsibility very much, so they trust people to do the right thing on their own accord.)
@OurStorytoTell
@OurStorytoTell Год назад
It’s so interesting to hear. Do you think that’s the same for flying on a plane too with babies? Thanks for sharing! 😊 Always trying to learn over here!
@roesi1985
@roesi1985 Год назад
@@OurStorytoTell I think their ears might hurt during takeoff and landing, too, but the probability of altitude sickness is lower because cabin pressure is kept at a "normal" level. I think most airlines say that infants should be at least one week old. So I guess it must be "safer" than a gondola ride or a hike in high altitudes. And you shouldn't put a baby or a toddler on a plane when they have an ear infection or a respiratory tract infection because then, there's a risk of them not being able to breathe.
@derekallen3979
@derekallen3979 11 месяцев назад

We are sad to see you go. Thank you for the support and following our adventures since Utah. It really means a lot. Our decision to start a Patreon came because we receive a lot of messages from people asking us to help them plan their travel trips. They want to know about how much it would cost and what to do. We want to help people, but it’s a lot of work so we thought Patreon would be the place to do that. We needed to make it worth our time though so that’s where Patreon came in.

The French are very aware of the problems of altitude and health. I live in a small village at 1 450 m, and from the age of 11 the children have to go to the school twenty kilometres down in the valley at 450 m. However the authorities say that it would be harmful to young hearts/lungs ( ? ) to go up and down every day, so the children have to stay down in the valley from Monday night to Thursday night. They also look out for adults: a neighbour was a ski-patrolman and suffered a heart-attack at age 42 ( it is a common local problem ) and when he recovered, they told him he had to stop being a patrolman because the changes of altitude were harmful to him, and he got a job in the base lift-station. I have to say thgough that their attitude seems to be somewhat schizophrenic , because they also encourage the same kids to join the local ski-club, and since some of them are in national teams, they are covering an awful lot of vertical descent - much more than the 2 000m involved in going to the valley school and back - in their training-sessions. Tanner mentioned the depth of the glacie being deeper in times past: I believe I read that 10 000 years ago Chamonix valley was covered in 1 000 m of ice, so the surace would have been close to La Jonction.. The official designation of that hike was "very difficult" and it looked that they could have added "very dangerous " too. Tanner , take care on those very narrow paths with those vertiginous drop-offs.
