M.A.S (Manufacture SAINT ETIENNE) Model 49/56 (fabriqué en 1949 amélioré en 1956 (arme plus courte et rajout du lance grenades) - parmi les meilleures fabrication de fusils de guerre.. ... une trés bonne arme... j'ai trouvé le lanceur de grenades un peu rustique... le chargeur était de 10 munitions, j'estime qu'il manquait un chargeur de 15 a 20 coups.. à contrario du film, j'ai eu trés peu de problémes de fonctionnement.. le MAS 49/56 avait une cadence de tirs rapide... ... la précision était excellente = je ne me serait pas risqué meme devant un mauvais tireur -- on était facilement dans la cible à 300 métres.. il existait une version ""tireur d'élite"" (sniper).. mais l'arme de base était vraiment éfficace.. J’ai tiré avec pendant ma préparation militaire supérieure à la Courtine. J’ai tiré également des grenades avec en tir tendu et crosse posée au sol. Il fallait bien faire gaffe en tir tendu de pas se le prendre dans la gueule comme mon binôme 😁
le chargeur du FM 24 29 de 25 cartouches s emboite parfaitement sur le mas 49 le tir au FLG est aussi précis que fun au bout de deux entrâinement tout le monde plaçait la grenade à moins de 5 m de la cible à 400 m même en tir tendu accroupit c est fun et précis on prend plus de plaisir à balancer des grenades que de tirer avec . et tout le monde réussissait à faire un groupement de 5 cartouches dans l' équivalent d' une carte à jouer à 200 m le seul défaut c est que si on a pas de sabot de crosse on se prend un coup sur la pommette à chaque tir et enfin un bleu , on a un cocard pour la semaine . j aurais aimé tester la lunette qui va avec mais mon lieutenant ma répondu que je serais le dernier de la compagnie à qui il confierait une lunette , puisque j étais le seul à ne pas en avoir besoin , au parcours de tir , comme mon binome touchait mes cibles à 200 m au PM , j ai tenté 3 balles dans la cible pour sniper à 600 m et j en ai mis deux sur trois
Decades ago SOG had the French MAS 49/56 Commando Rifle in refurbished condition in the box with all the battle accessories for $199. These were a steal. Then they dropped the price to $189. Great rifle.

that wasn't a bump fire, but a slam fire. it a known problem with the MAS 49, since the rather heavy firing pin was designed with very hard military primers in mind. they sell lighter titanium firing pins for civilian primers that completely negates the problem.
slam fires are a problem with a lot of mil surplus rifles. either replacing the firing pin, putting in a spring or having the pin shaved by a gunsmith solves the issue. heck there were civilian issued tavors and p90s that had to be recalled because the factory but in the military firing pins which caused slamfires. sks will slamfire if the cosmoline is not cleaned out properly. I just got a Syrian contract Mas 49 of which only about 6000 were made. It is actually one of the rarest MAS semi auto rifle variants. The 49/56 was made in about over 200,000. The spike bayonet fits in a tube in the rifle when you want to store it. You should know you can use There are 25 round mags meant for another gun but the name escapes me but they are finicky to not only get in the rifle but have it chamber the first round. You should know there is a scope mount on the rifle but the scopes cost about 800 dollars. Also unlike yours mine cannot use standard 22mm rifle grenades. It uses some special French rifle grenade and I have no idea where to get a trainer version wheras the nato 22mm you can get rubber trainers and if you use a blank 7.5 French you have some fun. The grenade launcher on mine aside from that has some interesting mechanics on how you determine range. There is a mechanism you can turn to extend or retract the barrel which has numbers on the side to indicate the distance.
The saving grace of the MAS design is a slam fire will never do damage to the gun since the firing pin cannot move if the bolt is not locked in battery.
Bonjour! dans mon jeune temps j'ai tiré avec le 49/56 et sans baïonnette, j'ai le souvenir d'une arme fiable et un aspect très réussit. A souligner son fonctionnement à emprunt de gaz.Salut à vous!
J'ai eu le même dans les "Transmissions" en 1978, mais sans l'amortisseur de recul. Il tirait sans la billonnette en effet. J'aurais aimé revoir une démo du lancé de grenade avec le viseur installé sur le dessus du canon.
J'en ai eu des centaines dans les mains en 1988 ,(j’étais armurier et moniteur armement ) , ils sont quasiment indestructible...et a mon avis bien meilleur que le famas dont les extracteurs et éjecteur pétaient régulièrement. Par contre les cartouches sont presque introuvable...La solution passe par une conversion au 308...
Aux USA, c'est un calibre plus facile à retrouver surtout depuis bien 5/7 ans grace à internet. Lui et le MAS 36 sont devenus des petits bijoux pour les collectionneurs et tireurs amateurs ... Vus que le 49/56 est un peu mieux que leur M1 garand et le 36 plus simple à utiliser et maintenir qu'un M1903 ^^
damn!!! why did you shoot with the bayonette? was only use for close combat, not in distance combat because this add forward weight and make the shot less precise...
was yours made for the French or under contract to be issued to the Syrians. Syrian contract is rarer and has the spike bayonet which stores in a tube in the rifle.
I picked up a CAI converted MAS 49/56 back in the early '90's for under $200, at a SoCal gun show no less. It's frankly a great rifle, I must have lucked out on the conversion quality based on all the reviews I've read. It's well balanced, a very robust design, and field stripping is easier than my Glock. My sample eats up all brands of commercial brass cased.308 with no problems and is accurate enough using the iron sights. However, it fails to extract all 7.62 NATO ammo, so I avoid it. I initially experienced the widely reported slam fire issue so I switched over to a Ti firing pin from phillittleguns.com and problem solved. I'm not certain why French military planners spec.'ed a 10 rd mag for this rifle. IMHO, the (reduced) magazine capacity is the only detraction from an otherwise superb rifle. Vive la France!
Bought one in '05 for $330 with tons of accessories. Couldn't find ammo and nobody would reload for me even though I had the dies. Never fired it and gave it to my Dad. Forgot about it until now. Consider my interest rekindled :) I would prefer .308, though. Ballistically similar and half the cost. I have only two options with 7.5x54mm: PPU or corrosive surplus? Boo!

en effet...quoique la décision n'a pas été prise par le président Macron mais en 2016 par le gouvernement Hollande, alors que la filiale d'un groupe français fabrique le meilleur bullpup au monde (certes en Australie...) , à savoir le Thales F90 qui est une arme vraiment moderne et pas un remake d'une arme américaine conçue en 1959...
this is a wonderful semi auto rifle, i love it, Century Arm did a lousy job to convert it to 308, i think if the French Troops were fully equipped with these rifles in 1954, they would not loose in Dien Bien Phu.
referred to as the "poor man's m14". well, i heard some bad shit about the conversions to .308. mine is a .308. fires well, no problems. lighter than an m14. don't know if you were "kidding" about the rifle not firing without the bayonet. it does fire with or without the bayonet. kicks like a donkey in heat, but a good gun.
I use this rifle if is was in the french Marine Nationale: i see NEVER one fire it with bayonette...excellent rifle, reliable, accurate , relative low recoil , light, and looks good...

I have one converted to 7.62x51 NATO for the French police I got lucky I got one from Century Arm's that was converted in France and not converted by Century Arm's
The reason why the MAS 49/56 has a plastic charging is when the fist prototype of the MAS 49/56 was being tested they had a steel charging handle and when a spent round hit it it made a laud ding sound and that ding would compromise a shooters position in combat so they changed the charging handle to plastic plus the plastic handle also functions as a brass defector also when a shooter is left handed so the empty shells won't hit the shooter in the face
Très bon Fusil semi auto. Etant tireur en club c'est celui là si je devais m'offrir un FSA, sans hésiter. Mais en France il est devenu très rare, ceux qui en ont un le gardent jalousement. Pour l'avoir pratiquer uniquement sur un chargeur (trop peu pour ma plus grande frustration) c'est vraiment une belle arme, bois acier, pas de plastoque (je suis plutôt conservateur), puissant, précis et fiable, what else ? seul le calibre serait difficile à choisir, celui d'origine ou un modèle rechambrer pour du 308 (OTAN) ? la 7,5 française qui est l'original et sur laquelle l'arme a été conçus et obtient très certainement ses meilleurs perfs mais qui reste plus chère que la 308 car bien moins répandue ... ou la 308 ? je crois bien que je prendrais ce qui arriverait en premier, trop rare pour faire la fine gueule et de toute façon 7,5 ou 308 ça se vaut à peu près hormis le tarif.

@@iloveshootingshit I've been using it 8 years long in the French Navy from 1986 to 1994 . Very good and reliable rifle , accurate, compact , not so heavy , quite powerfull and easy to disassemble .
I am not a fan of the slam fire and i feel the sights could use some work, but besides that i agree. It is very reliable and i have nothing but positive things to say. maybe i will make another video in the future. I just wish ammo was a little cheaper
@@iloveshootingshit Try to find some PPU ammo . They are cheap but of course not the most accurate but for plinking , it's enough ... If you reload, I've got some good combinations with Sierra bullets and vihta vuori finnish powder ... In order to avoid slam fire use CCI 34 primers especially engeneered for semi auto rifles . ( or CCI 41 I don't remember whitch one is a SR and whitch one is the LR ) . Try to find on internet a special titanium firing pin , lighter than the original one to avoid the problem ...
