Indeed patrol ships should be carrying a lot of drones. They are very helpful in surveillance and if armed these ships will be kind of small carriers. Maybe not that good in war situations but a fishing boat of pirates will be deterred. A (air/sea) drone can also be used to carry goods without the need for the entire ship or crew moving close to another ship, a platform, or an island.
